S. Svendsen Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Hot off my bench here are some pics of the model I built for the upcoming Model King / Moebius model kit. I will be posting the final box art as soon as it gets a final blessing from all the parties. This version of the kit has open steel wheels, a race exhaust, vintage lap belts, and specific '52 grill and hood trim. It also has the correct seats and interior side panels for a '52 which are different from the ones included in the '53 kit. Moebius really went the extra mile to get the kit as correct as possible. Dave Van designed the decals which are just photoshopped on right now to meet deadlines. I'll put on real decals after the kit goes into production.
Jantrix Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Wow. There isn't a car modeler alive that won't want this one. Fantastic work.
Chuck Most Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Tasty! I've said it a thousand times, gotta have this kit!
bbowser Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 I've got a serious case of the wants! Hands trembling, palms sweating. Put them on the boat already
philo426 Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I want to get one of those for sure!I think I'll make it box stock. maroon perhaps!
Janne Herajärvi Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Hmm i see another Hudson to get and build
Foxer Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 (edited) Sounds like we have a new acronym ... HF ... Hudson Fever! Edited August 2, 2011 by Foxer
charlie8575 Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Nice build and a very nice-looking model. This car is building more and more credibility with me. I want one yesterday. Charlie Larkin
Danno Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 WOW! (Very ecstatic, smiling emoticon indicating extreme approval here.)
W-409 Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 This is great! Needs to get two of these. One the "normal version" built Custom, and this version of course, NASCAR racer. It's great to see, that it doesn't need to be done with somekind of Aftermarket decals...
ra7c7er Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Looks great. I am glad to see Moebius did their homework and made the Tim Flock car a 52 instead of a 53.
Art Anderson Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Looks great. I am glad to see Moebius did their homework and made the Tim Flock car a 52 instead of a 53. Of course, Tim Flock drove Hudsons in 1953 as well, but this version is a lot more colorful!
Dr. Cranky Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Yes, YeS! YES! Bring it on! Beautiful model, and the kit is going to explode on the scene, I think, I hope.
Jim Gibbons Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Whoa! Incredible. This is gonna be one heck of a kit!
LAone Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 wow, that looks fantastic. now, where do i buy this exactly??
Danno Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 WOW! (Very ecstatic, smiling emoticon indicating extreme approval here.)
Harry P. Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 ok, at the risk of starting a huge flame war here... Keep in mind that I'm only asking, not casting aspersions on anyone. I'm just asking. I did a google search and found photos of this car, and in most of the photos I found, the chrome side spear that is very obviously "there" on the model is not there on the real car. Ditto the chrome trim along the rockers. Sooo... again, not to slam the model or the people responsible for it, but for an accurate replica of the real deal, is it correct for the chrome jewelry to be in place? Again... just asking, not slamming.
Tonioseven Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 (edited) I'm not sure if I'll buy one but it IS a beautiful kit from what I've seen so far! Great job on it, Sean! Edited August 3, 2011 by Tonioseven
S. Svendsen Posted August 4, 2011 Author Posted August 4, 2011 Here are photos of the real car in '52. The photos show the car (at least to my eyes) racing with the side trim in place and the numbers painted over it. As far as the lower rocker trim, I've seen it appear both with and without the lower rocker trim. I'm assuming that at one point the car started out with the trim and as it got damaged it probably didn't get replaced (but I'm just guessing.) At any rate the body was tooled to be shared with the stock '53 kit so the side trim is left intact. This will make it easy to make a stock '52 by adding the wheels and exhaust from the '53 kit. Plus other driver's cars also ran with the side trim intact, so you may see future releases of this kit under different liveries. As a side note for my build of the Tim Flock kit I removed the molded in fender skirts. The body comes with them molded in place and the instructions will note that to make the body more accurate they should be cut out and the edges sanded smooth.
SuperStockAndy Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Wow. There isn't a car modeler alive that won't want this one. Fantastic work. You got that right!!!
Dave Metzner Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 (edited) Tim Flock drove more than one Hudson Hornet - I have several photos of at least two different cars - one is plainly a 1951 - it has the side chrome lower on the door than the 52 with a different shaped rear window and the shield shaped tail lights that sit up on the rear fenders - and from some of the photos I have at some point it seems to have lost some of the side chrome trim all together - there are also photos of the 1952 - those photos show a basically showroom stock 1952 - with the chrome spears as they appear on Sean's model..... Yes it is accuate and correct for all of the chrome trim to be in place on the 1952 car... It seem that there are more pics of the 51 than of the 52 out there... Edited August 4, 2011 by Dave Metzner
