Kaleb Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 A few months ago I believe Gregg posted that there will be no cursing. Now I see it more often in different forms by using @&$$@@"(:: etc. I don't curse and usually over look it but it was said by the owner, and secondly there are younger kids that get on here. What happens when their parents ask where they picked a certain word at, and gets banned from the site and mcm gets a bad rep for it. It's just my two cents take it or leave it.
Jantrix Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Yep. Although I do use "darn" on here a bit, Gregg has emphatically told us that cursing or suggestions of cursing by using non-letter characters is prohibited.
Jeff Johnston Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 (edited) the site will do that automatically if you use a curse, or even a non curse. I wrote once that something looked like c r a p and it was pounded out. SO it does not necessarily have to be a swear to end up looking like this #### Edited September 16, 2011 by Jeff Johnston
trogdor Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I agree that swearing is not the best way to communicate, however it has become so ingrained in our subconscious that it's become normal. Our society has become desensitized through movies and television. Just because something appears normal, it doesn't make it right. If we weren't bombarded day and night through our so called entertainment industry it would be less acceptable. You see it in music, movies, and television. If it's got gratuitous sex and swearing in it, people love it. I'm 54 years old and have seen a huge decline in our morality as a people. Nothing is shocking anymore and you have to ask yourself Why. Do I swear in real life, yes I do. I can't explain why because certainly I wish I didn't. But certain situations will get me to that point. For this particular forum I see nothing that would ever prompt me to get going. Nothing about this hobby should get a person that worked up. If it does, perhaps a different hobby is in order.
Steven Zimmerman Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 It's a rule. Abide by it. I worked in a factory for 30 years, was a bouncer in a BYOB(bring your own bottle) after hours establishment(Midnight / 5 am) for 10 years, I can curse with the best (Worst?) of them.... but I don't do it in here. It's called RESPECT.
Dr. Cranky Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I learned long ago to check my language at the door when it comes to cursing, and having grown up in the hey day of Warner Brother Cartoons, I always (thanks to EYEGORE) prefer to use Cartoon style expletives like this: Suffering saccotash! Heavens to murgatroy, etc . . . you get the idea. Or as Bob Dylan would say: MCMF is your temple, keep it beautiful and clean!

Guest Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I can understand a person letting a curse word slip in a normal conversation. I think everyone that has ever cursed has let one slip every now and then. But,there's no excuse when a person is writing a response. Every word one writes is a consious effort or it is at least in my case. It's a rule we should all abide by out of respect for Gregg and our young members here.
Harry P. Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 It's a rule you have to abide by. The forum software edits out certain words.

Guest Johnny Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Is it the software that you have to add in "extra words" for it to edit out? It replaces the offending word's letters with ####.
Kaleb Posted September 16, 2011 Author Posted September 16, 2011 Yea I've seen it happen several times but I also see more going around it by using @#^%*$ symbols.

Jordan White Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I don't even know why people swear here... It's much more fun to use replacement words! "I hit that fudge-nugget right in his gall-darn mouth!"

There's no such thing as a slip of the tongue when you're writing, and your last sentence is dead on. Interestingly, I ran into an issue with the censorship software once when my post on Spaz Stix chrome paint did the #### number on the first word - and rightly so in any other context. That got fixed when I submitted the issue to admin. Edited September 16, 2011 by sjordan2
Guest Johnny Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 There is no excuse when typing to curse. it is not the same as a one on one conversation where a word you may use every day just slips out while talking to some one. Then it seems going out of the way to type a bunch of symbols where one wanted to insert a cuss word is a very blatant slap to the face of what Gregg has made a rule of the site and the same as if they had! Very juvenile thing to do.
Chuck Most Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I've stopped myself quite a few times- when I type, it's basically just going straight to my fingers from my brain. And if I'm in a less than stellar mood, a colorful word or two might pop up in the old mental stream. But I'm not going to go out and type it, or use the pound symbols. Speaking in person, now, that's a totally different matter!
jbwelda Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 the worst part is, when that "####" whatever gets substituted, the imagination takes over and it seems a lot worse than it probably was. and "kids" could probably show us a thing or two about cussing unless they are being brought up in some mormon cave in southern utah. seriously, i think the editing is a bit silly myself. but rules is rules i guess.
Eric Stone Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 No arguments with the rules whatsoever, BUT.... If a kid is in trouble with mom and dad for a dirty mouth, even if cursing was allowed and regularly practiced here, this site would be ranked about 15,898th on the list of places where he picked it up from.
niteowl7710 Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Not using it as an excuse to curse, but I knew all the words by the time I was 7, and I went to a private Catholic school, and my parents were the wash your mouth out with soap kind of people who never cursed in front of me. So all those precious children around here can probably curse a company of Marines under the table.
Darin Bastedo Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 some people here are a bit too much of the "cheese and whine" crowd i don't even think Disney is G-rated anymore So expecting people to follow the rules of the Forum is whining now?
SuperStockAndy Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Slipping out? I'm sorry, but you can control what you type much easier than what you actually speak.
