frozono Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Hi every one, i was away taking care of my health. but I'm back............ I made an up grade on my work bench........ This is the old one............ The desk was bent in the middle and every thing was rolling down the desk........... Now this is the new set up............ New desk and book shelves........... Now I have everything organized and my wife is happy............ A small up date.......... Now I can work in the dark..........
frozono Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Very nice, Luis. Charlie Larkin Thanks.........
tubbs Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 i noticed that quit a few guys keep their tools in an actual tool box. this couldn't work for me cause i need EVERYTHING out on the bench and i would have so much clutter in front of it, i wouldn't be able to open the drawers. keep them coming, some great ideas out there.
tubbs Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) Nuthin wrong with garbage pickin! It's come in fashion and called being green! My workbench is an old hollow core door that sits on two old night stands. Yes, all from the curb. My first display case is an old china cabinet that I grabbed from my sister, enroute to the curb. My smaller cabinet I swapped with my wife, because she liked the dark wood one I found at the curb. Earlier this year, we were on our way home and saw someone had thrown out 6 dining room chairs. I also had 4 old bentwood chairs I found earlier. I put them all on Craigs List one Saturday morning. By days end I had $250 cash I didn't have before! green!! we deal with that everyday at work. pickin is illegal around these parts. once it goes to the curb, it's the city's property. how ridiculous is that. i am always looking for things at the curb. you can make some good hobby money if you have the time to roam the streets on garbage day. have a friend who does it every day, anywhere from a few hundred to over a grand each month between Craig's list and the scrap he gets. racedriver25 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I know I have alot of aircraft so don't hold it against me. I have a few auto kits and several on the way. Been building 1/32 aircraft for awhile and just started getting back into car models.
FASTBACK340 Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Sure, I'll play along. Here's my pre-clean up workbench. Hopefully after tomorrow I'll have it somewhat organized and functioning again. Just a little Barracuda memorabilia on the walls....
Greg Cullinan Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I had a cool workbench but we moved. Been doing my building at the dining room table. In the spring I may move into the garage but it is pretty full. Have a basement as well that if I can condense the storage I could make a new work bench.
Turbotoll Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 I was lucky to build this hobby room last year after building for decades in the corner of a bedroom. Made this work bench from IKEA kitchen sink shelfs and some coated chip wood. Amazing that no matter how much working space you have it always ends up cluttered up with trumpery. Check out the display cabinet I made from the old fireplace downstairs.
mustang1989 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Greg:Man I'm facing that one too. My wife and I are moving forward with adopting a child. The spare room that all of my stuff is in (workbench and all of that) is gonna get cleared out. I'll be building in the garage this time next year, but hey, I'll still have a place to build! Gertjan:That looks sharp!!!
cobraman Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Gertjan, that is a very nice workspace. I like your display cabinet as well.

crazyrichard Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 hey all my new workbench .. i could choose to make a room for myself upstairs or give my son one big room .. off-course i went for the last option , he needs some space growing up .. i could make a big bench in a nother earea upstairs and i have a large shed , the shed is to cold and moist in winter time .. and since i was building at the dining table for a while now i realised the living room was the best place .. i build a lot and then we are all together ... one is watching tv one is on the tablet , i'm building but we still are together and can comunicate last summer i bought a hudge secretaire desk with a rolling shutter (??) looked like this > redone it for the pc > result > shutter down and now i made a workbench out of it , all the drawers are deep and in the middle there is a very wide shallow drawer so plenty of room for tools and stuff.. for the handy in reach stuff i use aq lot i made 2 small shelf cases next to the screen shutter down and it just looks good .. especially in your livingroom you want to be able to hide the clutter ... best thing is i can build , have most of my paints and tools in reach .. i have a screen in fron of me i can look up things or put a picture oon for reference and just look up and see it .. i can watch tv online , we habe kpn in holland and then you also have all the channels online ... real handy for all my kits and parts i have a notehr closed closet in the livingroom
