SuperStockAndy
Is it just me, or does it seem that if you search common things, nothing comes up? For instance, I was in the "Pickups, SUVs, Non-Commercial Trucks" forum, and searched "GMC". Well, you'd think there would be at least one GMC in there. Then I went to "On the Workbench", and searched "M8A". Which I KNOW there's a topic with "M8A" in it. Anyone had any similar problems? Edited December 9, 2011 by Andy C. sjordan2
Try This Google Very clever, henry57. I have frequently had problems with the search function on this site, and your Google approach regarding MCM is quite smart. Kudos.
martinfan5
I find a lot stuff on here by using google , and the funny thing is, and 99% of the time i am not trying to do a search for something on here. Thats how I found this place was by doing a image search on google for something model related .
Roadkill2525
Some search functions will process a request of a certain length, you might want to try the model of a certain brand or vise versa.
SuperStockAndy
I never knew about the Google thing! Thanks everyone!
brad4321
I totally gave up on the search option on this site. Words that obviously exist dozens of times yield the result, "no results found".
Jordan White
Agree brad, course it seems a good majority of sites have crappy search engines (or ones that require you to search a certain way to get the results you want). At least this site gives you the option of displaying the results as posts or threads, unlike at Scale Auto where it only gives you the results in post form. Makes it tougher to search since it will spread out the posts from the same thread and you sometimes can't remember if you've opened the thread or not. W-409
I haven't had any problems lately. Sometimes, when I'm searching older topics, and if I just remember the title, I've always found it. Last time, I tried yesterday evening, and it worked nicely.
SuperStockAndy
One thing that makes me mad abotu search engines on just about any forum is how complicated they are. It's like, I just want to search, who cares if one word has less than two letters for cripe's sake!
crazyjim
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who experiences search issues with the MCM site.
Kit Basher
I agree with you Andy, I typed in "COE" to find a truck that I know has that in the title, and got nothing. BTW, it's First On Race Day!
SuperStockAndy
BTW, it's First On Race Day! I've got one similar to that, but it's DEFINITELY not allowed on this forum
Kit Basher
I've got one similar to that, but it's DEFINITELY not allowed on this forum I can imagine!
Gregg
I think the problem is that you can't do a three letter word search. I tried your "GMC" search, nada Then, I did "GMC Truck", and wow!!!!! So, that's probably the issue, it don't like just small one word searches. I'll try to incorporate Henry's Google Search string in a help topic. I had the Google search box before, but then they changed their policies, and now want $400 a year for that feature, the buggers!!!!! It works great with the free Google search, just have to tie in that Google search from Henry. Almost all searches have to have more than one word in the string, if not, the results would be of no use. I know it seems simple enough, but you have to realize that there are reasons why things are done like this, and you have to adapt to it, it's not hard to do, just add another word to your search. SuperStockAndy
Awesome Gregg, thanks
Rick Schmidt
I've tried similar to how ya put it Gregg and got nothing except some warning about too short of a word. I've decided like a lot her to just give up on the search function.
