chris4q Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 It's been a while. Here's a 1/24 Cox Chaparral 2D slot car build I just finished. The kit was pretty basic so added a lot of detail to it. I hope you like it.
RancheroSteve Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Wow, that is really exceptional! Love the goggles hanging around the driver's neck. I think I'd be afraid to run it on a track.
bbowser Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Excellent, love the driver. Very nice job, makes mine look a little weak.
Howard Cohen Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Excellent! Now all it needs is a track and some competition!
heatride Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Amazing just bout sums that beauty up . I have to ask , do you actually use it after putting all that detail on it ?
chris4q Posted December 18, 2011 Author Posted December 18, 2011 Cheers guys. yes, they are raced. It's a rare old Cox but it will run on the track. I don't think it will be run hard because it's pretty rare now. Here's a link to the build of this car... http://www.slotforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=58302
Danno Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Wow. Nice build. I could not risk that beauty on a track.
pmodwrks Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Great Work, my Dad, John Hale did the Master for this body for Cox and he will be happy to see it still gets this kind of excellent detailing. The original master/prototype is in the Los Angeles Slot Car museum. He won a concourse with at the 1966 Rod and Custom slot car races in So Cal. Good Stuff, I checked the WIP and your work is first class.. Chris Hale
Raul_Perez Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Very nice!! I'd hate to race that one...I'd be afraid of damaging it.
62rebel Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 i got one of these myself, the Monogram reissue with the driver. MAN is that body thin... definitely made for slotcar racing... but it is so CRISPLY MOLDED.... Italeri, have you been watching? i was puzzled by that rectangular hole in the deck also.... quickly filled that in after i read your build. i don't generally build dedicated racing cars, but there's a few i want to have in my collection; this is definitely one of them. i still can't believe you'd put that model in danger on the track.....
jbwelda Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 so nice and that figure painting is killer. the guys expression is excellent.
Dave Van Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Very nice work!!! I have the static kit version of it.
Phildaupho Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Absolutely awesome model and slot-car. I missed it when originally posted. I have always loved the last configuration 2D and did a coversion of the Revell kit. I took the model to the Monterey Historics in 2005 and got a photo of my model with the real 2D in the background. My friend convinced me that I should also get Jim Hall to autograph the model. I was kind of taken aback when I presented the model to Jim Hall to sign and his first words were "What model is this?" I first thought that he should recognize his own car and then remembered that a certain diecast model company had not gotten proper licencing to produce Chaparral models. He was impressed when I told him I had built it myself. Fujimi currently produces a 2D kit based on the previous Modellers kit. I am At present I am involved with a group build of six 1/24 Scale-Auto Porsche 911 GT3 IROC style slot-cars.
Jairus Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Hey Chris.... post the pictures of that Porsche 911 we collaborated on! That one is pretty.
