martinfan5 Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) Here is a first look at the 2013 Jaguar F-type http://www.topgear.c...eaked-2012-9-20 I am trying to count how many other cars it looks like, I am seeing three so far, a Ferrari Calforina, Honda S2000, Mercedes SLS Edited September 21, 2012 by martinfan5
slantasaurus Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 E ??? Thought that was the F type as the article says.....
martinfan5 Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 E ??? Thought that was the F type as the article says..... That would be a typo, I guess I was thinking E for some reason
peekay Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I am trying to count how many other cars it looks like, I am seeing three so far, a Ferrari Calforina, Honda S2000, Mercedes SLS I couldn't agree more. If the article hadn't mentioned Jaguar anywhere I'd have guessed it was an updated Honda. But the original E-Type was probably the hardest act to follow in automotive history.
niteowl7710 Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Where's the Trident? Looks distinctly Maserati in the front to me...
1930fordpickup Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 All of these cars mentioned above all look like an evolution of the E-TYPE and so does this F-TYPE .
Agent G Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Where's the Trident? Looks distinctly Maserati in the front to me... Totally. G
Roger U Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) That looks quite nice. It does have similarities to the cars mentioned but also has it's own look, which is a lot nicer than most of the car designs I've seen lately. I like it. Edited September 21, 2012 by Roger U
martinfan5 Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 Dan thanks for posting the pics,
Harry P. Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 But the original E-Type was probably the hardest act to follow in automotive history. Yup. Pretty hard to improve on perfection (ok, maybe not perfection, but about as close to it as any automaker has gotten). And of course I'm talking styling, not mechanicals or ergonomics.
Junkman Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 (edited) Meh. It's just not cricket anymore. Has 'hairdresser' written all over it. Like an MX5 on steroids. Edited September 22, 2012 by Junkman
Joe Handley Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Where's the Trident? Looks distinctly Maserati in the front to me... Totally. G Yea, I keep thinking either Maserati or S2000 myself......
Jeff Johnston Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 (edited) I love it. I think the modern Jaguars are some of the nicest cars out there. Everyone wants to compare every new Jaguar sports car to an E-Type and that's silly because NOTHING will ever be an e-type. That lightning struck 40 somethin' years ago ! Everyone wants to compare every new Jaguar sports car to an E-Type and that's silly because NOTHING will ever be an e-type. That lightning struck 40 somethin' years ago ! You are correct the new Jaguars are great looking cars ,they are also better in every way . But most car company's are trying to recapture the lighting from years ago. A great example is all three major muscle cars out now . The Mustang ,the Camaro ,the Challenger are all great cars with the updated lightning of the years past . It is not a bad thing that we go back to good looking cars .(I forgot the PT Cruzer ,Prowler,Viper and what ever that GM thing was called . Also just look at how the 911 has never really changed from one year to the next 40 some years or so give or take the same old car, and it still sells .
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 (edited) It looks to me like it may have started as a clean design, but the detail-design committee got their hands on it and decided it needed tattoos and rubber bloobs to be accepted as contemporary. All the busy trash and unnecessary folds and creases stuck all over it detract from a rather nice and well-proportioned overall shape that does at least echo E-type. Obviously a committee design, whereas the E-type was a more-or-less one-man design and not the product of focus-groups and market research....so instead of being a mashup of stuff that had sold previously, it was an original, individual expression. The E-type appearance was heavily based on the D-type, the Malcolm Sayer-designed racing car which looked as it did because of sound aerodynamic principles applied to it's shape.....a very convincing argument for the design theory that form should follow function. A Swedish designer named Bo Zolland has done a rather nicer re-take on the iconic E. See it here.... http://www.autoblog....-jaguar-e-type/ While you're at it, have a look at Jag's green supercar concept..... http://www.roadandtr...concept/gallery Edited September 22, 2012 by Ace-Garageguy
1930fordpickup Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Well said William ! The re-take looks great in British Racing Green .

Harry P. Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 I especially like the back end... the way the lights and bumpers have been integrated and the rear roofline... very nicely done. I agree, I'd ditch the inner headlights, though, and stick with the classic single headlight look.
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 I agree...I think the tail is about as close to perfection as anything I've ever seen. I also would prefer to see the headlights integrated under a single lens or cover, and I'd kinda like it more if the side vent wasn't so pronounced. Still, it's a very beautiful shape.

But he had a beautiful shape to work from.
Guest G Holding Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Biggest shock is a STATION WAGON....
Jon Cole Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 I saw an S2000 in the image. But with so many cars in the world, every year, every decade, there is bound to be comparisons. I like the design, but it's no standout either.
Guest G Holding Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 No Danny I guess you just don't know....Dude!! http://www.autotribute.com/13200/new-jaguar-xf-sportbrake-pictures-and-details/
martinfan5 Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 This is the concept car we're talking about champ... Not the wagon. Dan That is just beautiful, Jaguar should be building this, I love the design, the paint job.
