On a whim this past Saturday I picked up the Spiderman version of the Polar Lights VW Beetle from Hobby Lobby(thanks to the 40% off coupon).I can do without the silly stickers but the rest of the kit seems to be interesting. Two styles of seats, three styles of rims(one of them the old 60s type EMPI wheels).Looks like a cool revamp of the old Herbie kit.

Tony, I did a kit review on that one here a while back...

Gotta say that I would have passed on the VW kit if I didn't notice the pic on the box side of the EMPI style wheels and the mention of the optional parts-kinda like I always pass on the chance to buy the Scooby Doo van kit even at a discount.

Seems I am unable to post a pic in reply mode. I got a '69 Cougar XR-7 Street Machines AMT kit at a thrift store for $2.99. It was built up rather nicely - not a glue bomb. I just need to redo the paint on the body. Just missing a header and a triangle air filter. It has been a long time since I found anything at a yard sale or thrift store.

Just a Dart Little M 427 small block, I sold my work in progress daily driver which together with working I was able to pick it up pretty cheaply. It's 13:1, has Dart Pro 1 230cc Platinum aluminum heads, 4130 Eagle forged crank and H beam rods, and JE pistons to make it brief, it makes about 700 horse on a mild tune with a lot more left in it. That, and the new SpecRite 5500 stall torque converter should make my car a complete animal! The first upgrade I'll end up making is a cam swap, it has a really small 660 lift solid roller in it and it would really benefit from a 750+ solid roller. That all takes money that I don't quite have. Besides, it's making more than enough power for my racing in high school. If I ever get some free time away from school, and life itself, then I can get some builds back going here :)

Why are the valve covers so tall?Does it have rollercams and solid lifters?

Yes, it will be getting a set of Heartbeat of America polished aluminum valve covers when it goes in, IMO these Dart ones are real ugly

Found this diamond in the rough today at the LIARS show out here in Freeport, N.Y. The body was painted without primer, so it should lift right off. The few items that are assembled are done with minimal glue slop. The wheels & tires are available, as are the decals. Considering how stupid-expensive this kit can be, I'm not going to feel guilty building a collector kit, not that I do this regularly. FWIW: I got the kit for a little more than twice the price of a new kit. ;)

Found a new winter project ……. B)

In `08 we met Bob Riggle and I had an opportunity to photograph the `68 Hemi under Glass extensively. This will be a fun build. I'm headed out to dinner in a few minutes, but when I get home the body is going in lake Castrol and we shop for wheels….. Here we go with an encore Barracuda build for this season.

Picked up this little gem today. Complete except for one stock wheel cover. Anybody happen to have a '67-'68 Plymouth hubcap they don't want? :D Steve

Great find and score Steve. I would like one of them someday...

Picked up a bottle of Tamiya surfacing primer at Hobby Lobby in Arlington Heights with the coupon, and noticed they have a couple Revell Willys pickups in the clearance section for $14 and change. Heads up if you want to grab 'em.
