Mike999 Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 That's an incredible UPS disaster. Sure deserves a claim. Flea Market Day here, and I found a couple of cheap oldies. The seller says he has 300 car kits he will be bringing to the flea market over the next few weeks. He "isn't sure" what all of them are, they're in storage. (ANY JO-HANS???). Picked up the pickup because...well, I guess because I can always use another pickup kit. Somewhere I have a resin small tow truck body designed for the AMT 1995-97 F-150s. Not too many years ago, those kits went begging at swap meets and so did the Revell versions. Sellers were lucky to get $5 for them. Nowadays they seem a little hard to find, judging by the prices in eBay Completed Items. That '57 is the eternal 1962 kit, recently re-re-released as "Pepper Shaker." When AMT-ERTL came out with the new-tool '57 Chevy in the 1990's, with the opening trunk and photo-etch, I read somewhere that the AMT employees thought that kit would bury the old '57 Chevy forever. Funny how that worked out. The original kit is still in the catalogue and apparently selling well.

I thought the above pictured version of the AMT '57 (as well as the '71 Charger, '66 GTO, and '55 Chevy Stepside?) were stock only, without the/any optional parts? IIRC these were among the first round (pun intended) of kits Round2 released in 2006 or so.

Which I could personally do without. One reason I picked it up: I didn't have a single one of that old-tool AMT '57 kit in the stash, in any version. And this one was cheap.
BeakDoc Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 16 hours ago, SfanGoch said: I waited twelve days for a package, sent via UPS, from Buffalo, NY to get to me in Brooklyn. I ordered a Johan Desoto Adventurer (a kit I've been looking to get at a reasonable price for a long time and finally got it) and two AMT '41 Plymouth Coupes. Well, the parcel arrived this afternoon at 5:46 P.M. Check this out: Yeah, I got the package. It looked like it went through a shredder. The box was smashed and crushed with rips and tears along the corners. Two of the three kits were damaged, the Desoto and the '41 Plymouth with the red car on the box. As you can see in the photos, both kit boxes were severely damaged, the lower right corner of the Desoto as seen from the top of the box and the upper left corner of the '41 Plymouth. The boxes are torn open and parts were falling out into the packing box. The Desoto's left tailfin is crushed and is missing the dash, steering wheel, both taillights and two tires and backs. The red car box Plymouth's window is cracked and broken, the hood, dashboard and right inner fender are missing and there is only one (1) stock Firestone tire. For all I know, all of the missing parts could have fallen out of the box. The holes in the packing box were large enough for the loose parts to have easily fallen through, as a result of all the abuse the package was subjected to by UPS. There are a few words I could use to describe this; but, let's just say it's not a pretty sight. These kits had the c_rap knocked out of them. I'm not happy at all about this. I've been trying to find an affordable Johan Desoto for the longest time; and, when I finally am lucky enough to get it, this kind of happy horsec_rap has to happen. Joe, pm me. I may be able to help out a good bit on the desoto kit. I have one that is also a partial kit. No dash, steering wheel or interior at all and only one of the tires is missing, but the body is perfect. And the other parts you listed as missing in yours are there. I have no doubt we can work out a trade if you’re interested.

89AKurt Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Part of an estate, subjects I would never have thought about getting, much less knew about. I searched this forum to see if anyone built the Lincoln, see it's popular. The Bugatti, nobody built it? The IMC Lola, fugetaboutit.

If you have no particular interest in or plans for it, please keep me in mind first? (I won't even TRY to talk you out of the two yummy IMCs.)

The Ford GT40 is just parts, have listed in the Trades thread. PM me, if you can.
Super28 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Look at what I got! Yup, cost me some coins, but worth it to me!
styromaniac Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 "Surf Hearse". Not that far fetched. Found an interesting article online once about how the 60s surfers would buy up used hearses from huge lots and live in them at the beach. Apparently the funeral trades in California were always upgrading their fleets with newer fancier models and a decent relatively low mileage hearse could be had for minimal bucks...plenty of room for boards, blankets, bunnies.
SfanGoch Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 There was an interior designer, who went by the moniker "Dan Normal", in NYC back in the early '80s to mid '90s. He was red bearded, wore his hair in a proto-manbun and walked around wearing only a leopard skin garment a la Fred Flintstone, even during winter. He drove around in a modified '66 Caddy ambulance with a bunch of odd statuary mounted on the roof and had a huge Pickaninny doll sitting in the passenger seat. He lived in the West Village and one could normally see the Caddy parked near Seventh Ave. South. It was hilarious to see the expression on the faces of some of the old money residents at Trump Tower when they eyeballed him sitting in the lobby, waiting to go upstairs to visit a client.

Jan & Dean were all over that idea in 1964. No pic of a "1937 Cadillac hearse" in this video, though. The "Continental Memorial Coach" is interesting, and looks like something we could build from the recently re-issued Round 2 '65 Lincoln:
Johnt671 Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 I got a junkyard kit with the Ala Cart and 29 Ford roadster on E-Bay. I'm going to try to restore the Ala Cart into a custom pick up, and do a TROG car out of the roadster. It looks like almost all of the parts are there, but I will need the four stock tires for the roadster. I also found a Lindberg 32 in a roadster version I don't have. I know these aren't the best kits around, but I had fun a while back with a pick up version of this kit. I put a 53 Corvette six in it and made a wood bed and a paper towel bed cover. I was happy with the way it worked out.
smhardesty Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 I picked up a CustomShop '69 Charger kit on eBay just a while ago for $4.99 plus shipping. I know it's not the best of kits, but for 5 bucks I figure it will make a nice project to detail and upgrade.

mchook Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 I got this "Ridge Runner" kit yesterday. I was happy to see it was glued with old Testors blue tube glue so it came apart easy & clean.
