John Goschke Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Oh boy is this thing fantastic! Very tasteful color combo and the realism of the scale details in the interior is mind-blowing. Craftsmanship of the highest order!
bisc63 Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Very nice, and thanks for the informative post!
DrKerry Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Like the idea for the interior, may have to start using that idea myself!!! Awesome looking build by the way....
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 (edited) Great work still, great techniques. Thanks for all of it. Inspirational. Edited September 10, 2013 by Ace-Garageguy
Agent G Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Oh My Goodness that is nice. I did tuck n roll one time. Piece by piece with half round. Never did it again. G
sbk Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 Thanks! Yes, it's a quite a bit less work than gluing down one strip of half round at a time. I've also used V-groove siding, which is easier than individual strips, but doesn't look as good.
Skydime Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Those T&R inserts are crazy! If I tried that, I'd have gaps and overlays and everything. That's some excellent craftsmanship!
JustBill Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Wow Steve. This is looking fantastic. I love the interior and will be trying it for sure. Thanks for sharing. Great color choices too, I can't stop going back and looking at it. It's just inviting and pleasing to the eye. Good stuff.
Davewilly Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Thanks for that great interior tip you passed along.....Now I have a use for the hundreds of those bottles of paints my wife has!
66belair Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 That is beautiful work! Keep it coming , can't wait to see it complete!
buffalobill Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Any updates on this incredibly well done Chevy? What have you done under the hood and to the chassis? Beautiful work & very informative text . . .Thanks!
58 Impala Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Great build, now where's the color! Looking forward to seeing some nice paint.
rv1963 Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Wow what an amazing custom, you are a true craftsman.
Dinky Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Whoow, that interior is great. Thanks for sharing the "how to"
sbk Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 Thanks for the kind words! I have the steering assembly painted & detailed. I did a quick mock up for a photo. This past weekend I added the tuck & roll inserts & piping. The piping & weatherstriping is 32 ga. wire painted with the same acrylic craft paint as the inserts. The darker color is a mix of Tamiya & Dr. P.H. Martin's acrylics. A few coats of Testors Acryl semi-gloss clear gives the sheen to the seats & door panels. Door handles & window cranks are resin copies of some that I scratchbuilt.
codie27 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Those seats look so comfortable. Beautiful attention to detail.
charlie8575 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 1. Great tip for the dash; I always had a problem with that on these tips. 2. Love the steering wheel. When you say you used an ink pen for the rim, specifically what part did you use and from what type of pen? I liked the shift/column, too. 3. The idea for that tuck-and-roll sheet is brilliant! Beautifully done overall. I really like what I'm seeing here. Charlie Larkin

Beautifully done overall. I really like what I'm seeing here. Charlie Larkin Thanks! The earlier photo for the horn ring was a cut down ring from an ink pen, but the soldered joint with the straight brass pieces kept breaking. No use posting photos of the pen because it didn't work out well. This horn ring is made from thin brass sheet bent to shape. I dipped it in a solution formulated to "tin" circuit boards, & that's what make the brass a silver color.
sbk Posted May 17, 2014 Author Posted May 17, 2014 Any updates to this build? Simply amazing so far. Thanks, Don. I finished it a few months ago. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=86228&hl=padded
iBorg Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 The mold for the tuck and roll, what is that made of? Resin? This is an idea I really want to try.
