dantewallace Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I got this kit at a yard sale back in October for $5.00!!! I started building it the day before xmas to keep me busy over vacation from work. Unfortunately I could not use the decals as they have yellowed pretty badly.
James2 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 No need for decals when ya build'em that good and clean, very smooth!
W-Machine Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 This project worked out very nicely. Excellent color choice.
vintagercr Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 That is a nice clean build! Love the color choice.
crazyjim Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Looks great and so SHINY :) . I have that sealed kit in my stash as well as an extra truck and boat.
realgone58 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Looks great! Don't need the decals. Great combo!
dantewallace Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 Thank you all for the kind comments,I really appreciate it!!! I uploaded the pics to photobucket so they would show up large and show the detail here ,but I guess the forum downsizes them by default?
THarrison351 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 What an amazing looking truck and boat. Great color choice.
slusher Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Really a nice build and great color choice. l need to try yard sales...
dantewallace Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 It was the first time I had ever seen a kit at a yard sale. I was actually driving past it and saw the big box in the yard,I then whipped a massive U-turn and went back to get it,lol. Check antique shops and flea markets also,I have seen a good bit of kits at those places but the prices are usually more than what I'd be willing to pay.
surfjunke Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Very nice clean work. Love the color combo & finish. I agree with the others, you did not need the decals.
gonzo64nova Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 That was quite a score dante, Ive been looking for one of those kits for some time. You did a great job on it!
george 53 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 VERY nice job,Dante! I got one from a clubmember at a really fair price too, just hadn't gotten around to messin with it. This REALLY gives me some incentive!
dantewallace Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 It's a fun kit george, The boat was more difficult than the truck was to build. On the parts tree for the boat the amount of flash was the most I have ever seen on parts in my 20+ years of modelling, lol. I had a few fitment issues with it also.
Danno Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Nice. It would look even better had you painted the underside of the interior tub so you did not have bare white plastic showing around the transmission. Something to consider next time.
dantewallace Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 that part had already been painted the day after the pictures were taken
Dyno Davo Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Very kool combo, the paint scheme is perfect, well done
57lover Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 whats this kit called and where can i get it i like the combo?
sjordan2 Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 (edited) Glad you're here and getting into the groove. If you're a starting modeler, you've done quite well, and it's very clean. However, I'll go against the grain with all the compliments posted on this thread. I don't think all that applause does you any favors. This model really needs a lot more attention to detail, including chrome trim touches and especially the dashboard detail. There's a pretty high standard on this forum, and you would get even more accolades if you took a few extra steps. Edited January 9, 2013 by sjordan2
dantewallace Posted January 9, 2013 Author Posted January 9, 2013 I am not new to modelling just new to the forum,I have been building for 27yrs. Yea,I agree that the chrome needs a retouch but I dont feel that a dab of silver paint is sufficient. Do you have any suggestions on something better to use? I overlooked parts of the dash on purpose. This only because out of the package the detail of the guages, etc was poorly done from the mold, also no decals for the cluster was included. Usually I fully detail my dashes using a finely sharpened toothpick under a microscope, this simply could not be done with this model.
Sixties Sam Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Truck and boat are both beauties! Very nicely done. Great colors. What a deal for $5.00! Sam
