wgflatliner Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 as the question states, what are your work bench must-haves? for me, adequate lighting, the dehydrator, tools and paint.
Quick GMC Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 xacto knife Sanding sticks super glue comfortable chair quality paint brushes
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 (edited) All the above ('cept the dehydrator) but I HAVE to have a window. I just can't bear to be in a little cave. Nice to have the computer for research (and time-wasting). A drawing board across the room is good, plus pads and writing materials for notes. And a small space-heater under the bench for the winter. Gram scales for mixing epoxy and fillers. Dry compressed air. Cork-board for notes and ideas. Camera. Thermos of coffee. Edited April 19, 2013 by Ace-Garageguy
IMSANUT Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 All the above ('cept the dehydrator) but I HAVE to have a window. As above plus adequate work space.....I like lotsa room, my trusty toaster oven and vacume cleaner for vac-forming, plenty of storage space for kits and such. I use two old type face drawer cabinets with drawers for small part and decal storage, and soon will have a spray booth ducted to the out side. I also have a big metal library type cabinet for reference magazines, and multiple work benches. When my wife and I bought the home ten years ago, I got a HUGE unfinished basement as part of the deal.
greymack Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I think also what is needed is a radio, styrene sheets, glue, good set of brushes and a good stash. Also good a proper bench and chair are important.
kitbash1 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 xacto knife Sanding sticks super glue comfortable chair quality paint brushes Dremal tool & bits Shop-vac ( for when sanding resin ) Air compressor ( for air brush ) Spray booth Micro chisels Boom Box
2002p51 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 All the usual stuff plus a roll of paper towels and a stack of Post-it notes. Not for posting notes of course but to use as disposable paint pallets, glue pallets and even for masking off small areas for a quick shot with the airbrush.
MAGNUM4342 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Bright lighting, opti visor, various tools, assorted glues and paints, emery boards...Pepsi.
Clemi Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 a big workbench spray booth airbrush compressor and gun paints tools computer the TV in the background, I love it to build and "hearing" TV
Guest G Holding Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Tunes, Soft Chair, Bar Buoy filled with a cold adult beverage And You could even put a model there too.........
crazyjim Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I'm tending to go with all of the above -and add a stereo for oldies tunes.
pharoah Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Ditto for what they said, plus I need some MOTIVATION. Something I haven't had for a while.
slusher Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Radio-glue,-sanding sticks,-knife,-tooth picks,- light- reading glasses.
Harry P. Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Bar Buoy filled with a cold adult beverage Yeah, baby! A little liquid inspiration is a must-have!
charlie8575 Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Good tools, a comfortable seat, a radio or recorded music is nice, decent lighting and ROOM. Charlie Larkin
zenrat Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 The bench itself has to be of a height so it can be worked at whilst standing so when my back craps out again I can still build.
Sixties Sam Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 My shop is in a windowless basement room, so I have good lighting and a heater. I have an old radio and a small b&w TV. For tools I have X-acto knives, sandpaper and blocks, jeweler's files, drill press, pin vice, needlenose pliers, side cutters, and my faithful Dremel tool with abrasive cutoff wheels (it's my "cutting torch"), and sanding drums. Sam
Helix Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Pretty much what everyone else has said, don't forget the Clear Safety Glasses when your using the Dremel ! Radio is a must have, like to listen to the Footy (AFL) on the weekends whilst building I use an IPAD on my workbench in case I need a quick reference, the PC takes up too much room !
zenrat Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 (edited) Yes, a radio is important. Particularly tomorrow so I can listen to the Bulldogs walk all over the Crows... Edited April 20, 2013 by zenrat
W-409 Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Of course all proper tools, paints and Evergreens etc. Then enough light, I have two big windows on my bench, and then two lights if (or actually when) I'm building at night. Good chair and of course a lot of great Rock 'n Roll records and LP-Record player where you can play them!
