10 years is not a stretch for me. I have several that are at least that old. But thats changing. Actually, I just finished one that was started about 12 years .

I have maybe 3 or 4 more I want done this year and they are all started over 10 years back.

Here's one of many, many stalled projects that have been started over the past 50 years (yes... 50!) This Auburn started (if I remember correctly), as a Pyro kit (the box has long since gone) which was later re-issued by Lindberg. For it's time it wasn't a bad kit but lacking in many ways. I did build it but was never really satisfied with the way it turned out.

However I did have a spare Lindberg kit, a glue bomb Johan Cadillac, a MPC Lincoln (I think) and an assortment of other parts, so I started playing around with a "What if?". This became the basis for what you see here, using parts from all kits. The intent was to see if I could build a phantom Auburn Phaeton using the radiator, engine, bulhead, cowl and front door section, and grafting on a Phaeton body from another kit from the front doors back. This stalled project is at least 30 years old or more.

Looking back, I kinda like the look of it, so maybe this will become a future thread subject when (and if) I ever get back to it!

This is a great thread ... it may just get some of these beautiful ideas back on the bench!

My oldest is this '59 Impala that was my 2nd car. Started before the Revell Hardtop came out in the 90's. I got a resin hardtop body ... but not saying where as it wasn't that accurate as far as the front end .. a bit short and blurry. I cut the top off and before the bodywork was done the Hardtop was released and I got one of those! Here's a few bodies along the way ...

Most of this has been done a long time ... I tjust needs the BMF finished!

I started this one back in 1995....I think it counts as a OLD Stalled project. But its on my list of ones to get back on this year....there is 3 other started ones in front of it on the desk now though. I was doing it from a a Scale Auto Sketch pad I saw. A neighbor had brought down a large box of model kits and parts he had from the 60 and early 70's he had and gave them to me. The roof on this was sanded with so like 40grit so it was kind of wasted. Also the rear door post and the frame in the front part of the side windows were missing also. So when I saw the drawing I though hey I got a something to do with that 40 sedan now. It has a 95 Cobra engine and the chassis from the fire wall back is also the from the cobra. The front sub frame is from the 57 corvette. With the roof being open I was also making my own interior upper door panels and pillar/headliner for it. Front seats are from the cobra also the rest is from the sedan.

Started this one in about 10 years ago when I had the 1:1 69 Chevelle in the garage stripped down to the frame with the body sitting a couple 4x4's on 55 gallon barrels. So I thought I would build a model of how I wanted the 1:1 to look.

I used the chassis from the new 70SS Monte Carlo kit (that when I started this) I also had a 70 Monte Carlo in the driveway at the time too. Ended up trading the Chevelle for a fresh from the machine shop 468 with all the hot rod parts and pieces even down to the gaskets and new bearings and a 4:11 Posi rear end with racing axles and Auburn posi unit and set of old Lakewood ladder bars for the Monte and the Chevelle kits been back in the box ever since.

Turtle-slow conversion of an old Johan 1962 Oldsmobile Super 88 into a 98 Town Sedan, to rep one of my old cars. It was an ebay find...horrid gluebomb...but plastic, which is infinitely easier for me to work on than resin. The 88's shared roofs with the Chevy and Pontiac, where the 98's shared roofs with the Caddy and Buick. I tried to simply swap on an AMT '62 Buick roof, but it's too narrow for the Johan body. This lead me to start measuring, and learning just how inaccurate the Olds body is. One of these days...

This is the only pic of my 98's I have handy. I'd taken tons over the years, but they're on a cd somewhere and I haven't run across it yet. The silver one is the Town Sedan, and was my daily driver for a decade. The red was to be my next project, a Holiday Sedan, until my back and hips got bad enough that working on these old beasts was impossible.

Digging through my stash I ran across another stalled project!

This one is a 1990's Dodge Ram VTS Power Wagon. I started with a Resin Body I picked up for dirt cheap on Ebay back in 2005. I got the AMT/ERTL Dodge Ram 1500 "Promo" to build it and didn't like it at all! So I switched directions. I got two Dodge Ram VTS kits for a steal of a deal on Ebay. Then acquired another one at a ridiculously low price at a Flea Market. So I started the conversion, then I had to move. So it got boxed up and sat till 2008 when I started on it again. Again another move and it stalled again. Maybe someday.

I will bite and share a few of my stalled projects :) .....

The first project I am sharing started out as a 1/16th Don Prudhomme FED kit that I started in either 1995 or 1996 I don't remember exactly when but it was before I went away to a 4 year college in '96. The pictures here are showing the state it was in at that point in time but it was stored and these pics were taken back in 2007. This build stalled because I went away to college and has been sitting since....

Here is the Project:

Driver Area:

PlasticModels280.jpg

Driver area again.... at the time I didn't have any 1/16th scale seat belt hardward so I used a detail master kit to have a harness in it. ... I have purchased a 1/16th scale restraint set up from Charlie at Pro Tech that will get swapped with whats currently in it:

Fuel Tank:

Front End:

Here is the Engine:

PlasticModels282.jpg

Another shot of the engine, RB Motion A/N fittings with detail master braided line at the time. I am really thinking of removing the Detail master braided line and changing it with Pro Tech's braided Line:

PlasticModels284.jpg

So going forward to April of 2011.... I had pulled it out and painted it around the time I started my 1/16th Army Vega Funny Car build that I have been on for the past 2-1/2 years. I will show pics of the paint and where its at in the next post..... Stay tuned B) ....

So here is the 1/16th Scale FED after it was painted, I will skip showing the paint process....

Parts Cleared:

PlasticModels378-1.jpg

Current State of the project is that the Body needs to be finished being color sanded and polished. There are a few more parts to finish working on and installing other parts that have been painted way back when as well. I am planning on Redoing the Radius rods as well as the front wire wheels will get swapped out with some Machine Aluminum Specialties Photo etch wire wheel set. I will be pulling this one back out as soon as I finish up my '57 Chevy Step side project I currently have going as a break from my Highly Detailed 1/16th Scale Army Vega F/C

Here is what started out as an AMT '49 Ford kit and this was done probably around 1991 to 1995. I don't remember quite when but it was for a club build back in the day when I was part of the Monterey Bay Scale Auto club before I went away to college in '96. I was never able to finish it up but I got the idea from a '49 Ford Pro Street that I saw on the cover of a Hot Rod Magazine back in the day. The Top has been chopped as well as the body was shortened 1/2". I do have the interior bucket that I will have to pull out and take pics of if anyone is interested. but here is a few pics of it....

Here is another one to add to this thread.... I know this was another one started before I went away to college. I believe it was painted but I had not put the decals on it til 2011. This build was going to basically be build out of the box with the exception of wiring the motor and the after market decals. The chassis is painted as well as the engine painted and assembled. I know it just needs a couple of items done to call it done. Another one I should just button up to add to the shelf

I almost forgot about this one...

This one was started back in 2008 but sat without the hood being done for over two years.

Back in January 2011 I finished the hood and then stopped when I got sick. I got this shipped back to me from my old place in Cali last year, so one day I will eventually finish it.

I've finished two projects this year stalled since at least the early '90s--'69 Charger 500 and '77 Monza. Will be posting pics under glass soon.
