CSMO Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 (edited) These rubber-powered car kits came out in '61 and '62. They are four (futuristic for the time period) "sports cars and four Bonneville speed record cars. They are all recent e-bay purchases. The paint on the car bodies is hand-brushed and Futured hobby and military paints from Testors, Humbrol, Xtracolor, and Pactra(45 year-old bottle of Turquoise). The tires are Pactra Hot Rod Primer, ant the interiors of the sports models are a mixture of Floquil, Model Master, and Vallejo. Adios, Larry.arry. Edited June 12, 2013 by CSMO
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Pretty cool. I've got a few of these oldies too. They actually make good starts on smaller 1/25 scale streamliners.
realgone58 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Pretty wild! Love the old turquoise. Each of them had a name too, can't remember off hand however.
Draggon Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 All fantastic, I love the "Apache" and "Cherokee". Great job with the brush. I sure wish those old Pactra paints were still available.
Eshaver Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Glen, I wish several of the old Pactra colors were still around too. As for the old hawk kits , thanks for sharing them! I even had a couple myself in their day ............
surfjunke Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 WOW, do these bring back some memories. They all look great. Your brush work is amazing.
Greg Myers Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Nice collection. Now, be honest, have you cranked up the rubber bands ?
Tom Geiger Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Hawk also did some larger generic cars... seems like they weren't big on paying royalties! These are more in the realm of 1/24 scale. I have all of these and had thought about doing a detailed version on a Continental chassis.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 I just love those. Looka at the box art they had. That could be called art.
charlie8575 Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Those are cool. And very nice, appropriate colors, too. Charlie Larkin
CSMO Posted June 16, 2013 Author Posted June 16, 2013 Here is the box-art for all eight kits. Adios, Larry.
Lunajammer Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Yup, I still have my Apache. As a kid I was completely unaware of salt flat racing so the Apache was the only one (available) that made sense to me.
Tom Geiger Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 and the good part was there was no 1:1 to compare it to. No roof that was 1/2 an inch off!
unclescott58 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Kool stuff! I wonder if Round 2 has the dies for these still? The Apache, Bobcat, Cherokee, and Sebring all look pretty good to me. It would be fun to have them in a collection.
89AKurt Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Friend linked me to this thread...... I never knew about this brand or subject. Nice job on your collection.
doorsovdoon Posted November 1, 2020 Posted November 1, 2020 Sweet looking kits, I love the artwork on the boxes, looks very similar to the artwork on the old Airfix kits.
