McBurnie Coachcraft 'Ferrari' Daytona Replica - 'Miami Vice Style'... FINISHED

Hey thanks guys for the nice words and the welcome!  I'm glad to be back on this build.  It's been too long and I'm really excited to get this one done. I'm still deciding whether to use gloss black lacquer or black base coat lacquer with clear lacquer for the body.  I've been exclusively using base coat/clear coat on my other builds and I'm used to it so I'll most likely go that route.

It's been a few months since my last update.  I finished painting and assembling the interior.  It's painted with a mix of 2 parts Tamiya XF-59 Desert Yellow and 1 part Tamiya XF-2 Flat White.  I just have to paint and install the car phone.  I used Microscale black decal stripes on the seats.

The body has been painted, clear coated and polished.  I used Gravity Colors Anthracite Black with Gunze Mr. Super Clear.  I installed the front turn signal lenses which are painted Tamiya X-26 Clear Orange on the insides.  I put Bare Metal Foil in behind the lenses.  The Corvette kit's windshield was a bit thick and stuck out too much.  It gets installed from the outside and looked out of scale so I made a windshield out of clear acetate.

The chassis, suspension, exhaust and engine parts will be painted next.

Thanks for looking in.

Hello, following your project with great interest; have you got any further with it?

Look forward to seeing it all assembled. Please keep going!!

Duncan

Duncan thanks for the nice words and following along.  It's funny that you posted today.  I've been working on finishing some the small details.  I did get the chassis painted and together and the engine is installed.  I'll take some pictures in the next few days.

Mike.

Here's one of the last things I did.  I made the support to make this resemble a 1981 Corvette's rear end.  The beauty car used on Miami Vice was built on a 1981 Corvette.

I finished this one.  It only took 8 years.

I scratch built the rear view mirrors and the exhaust system.  The mufflers are from an AMT 1970 Chevelle.  The exhaust has a strange shape on the driver's side which is how the real McBurnie 'beauty' car from Miami Vice looks.  They routed it along side the passenger side exhaust pipe to go into the cutouts of the chassis cross members which sort of makes sense.  The exhaust tips are the ones from the Miami Vice Daytona kit.  I made the windshield and the front 'plexiglass' headlight cover from acetate.  The Corvette's clear windshield is very thick and looked out of scale.  I sanded down the thickness of the Daytona kit's clear tail light lenses and painted them with Tamiya X-27 Clear Red and X-26 Clear Orange and sprayed clear lacquer over them.  The tires are from Fireball Modelworks.  I painted the underside floors by first spraying Tamiya XF-19 Sky Grey and then misted Tamiya XF-63 German Grey over to sort of look like a Corvette's fiberglass.  It doesn't show in the picture but is more noticeable in person.
