Ace-Garageguy Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 (edited) Pretty sure I read somewhere that the IRS will never contact you via phone or email... only by mail.If you get a call from the "IRS," you can be pretty sure it's a scam. The IRS uses the phone, just like anyone else. But if you have a problem with them, you WILL get something in the mail. Guaranteed. They're not going to initiate an action by phone, and they don't make threats of arrest, etc.The scam is getting to be a popular one too. Apparently there are STILL people who will be panicked enough to send money to some Namibian claiming to be Agent Jones from the IRS. https://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Warns-of-Pervasive-Telephone-Scam Edited March 5, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy

Ace-Garageguy Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 (edited) From irs.gov... "There are clear warning signs about these scams, which continue at high levels throughout the nation,” said IRS Commissioner John Koskinen. “Taxpayers should remember their first contact with the IRS will not be a call from out of the blue, but through official correspondence sent through the mail... Which is exactly what I meant by "they're not going to initiate an action by phone". I should have been more clear. They WILL "contact" you by phone after the discussion of the problem is underway, but the first contact will always be by mail, as you say, and as your reference supports. CometMan Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 My ex-wife showed up at my door, unannounced and definitely uninvited, nearly two years after I had last seen her! But, in the end, karma had bitten her in the you-know-what, because she came to WRITE A CHECK TO ME for my attorney's fee for disregarding a court order!!
High octane Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Anytime someone comes to my door to write me a check, they're invited.
Tom Geiger Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Microsoft! For the last month or so every day there'd be a small ad would pop up telling me to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 10. I saw no reason to do so. I get home from work Thursday night and there's a full screen, blue with white letters, asking me to accept terms... doesn't say for what but I suspected, so I hit "NO" and the screen changes to "Reinstalling your previous version"! The suckers went and changed it without my permission. That takes an hour or more. I come downstairs this morning at 7:45, expecting to jump onto an 8:00 Skype meeting but nooooo... they did it again overnight! It took me an hour to get through that mess, missing my meeting!
Tom Geiger Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Oh and my brother in law... When we saw them for Christmas he showed me this 1989 Cadillac he had gotten for free! A friend of his 80 something year old mother died and this was her car. It was garage kept and had 78,000 miles on it. My sister texts me that he wants to sell the Caddy. Did I want it? So I reply that I needed to know the year, mileage and how much he was asking. I'm figuring he wants $2000-3000 tops. He comes back saying he has someone offering him $6000, but he'd sell it to me first. My reply? That's a great price! Sell it to the guy! This isn't a really collectible car. It's the era with the short hood and trunk lid and the tall greenhouse. Not really a striking car, but for a few thousand, I might have driven it for awhile. My wife said when we go there for Easter it will probably still be there.

They did that to me too, Tom. However, as I went thru the set up for Windows 10, I turned off all the fancy new features they've added, and now it works the same as Windows 8, which I have been using as if it was 7. Yeah, I'm a dinosaur, so what?

martinfan5 Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Two different LHS being out of stock of some items needed, thats what I get for not ordering them online
High octane Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Shopping for a new vehicle and the salesmen didn't have brochures for the vehicles I was interested in. Well one did, took me for a ride, explained a lot about items on the dash, then let me drive it, then showed me the service and waiting area, and seemed to want my business. More shopping tomorrow.
unclescott58 Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 (edited) Had to put another bunch of money into my normally cheap to drive car. Paid up my balance on my credit card on Tuesday. Today I had to charge just under $800 to get a bunch of mainly small things and one big thing fixed on my old dependable Buick daily driver. That's just the way life goes I guess. Despite the car needing $2000 worth of work in the last 4 months, it's still a very good car worth keeping. It's never stranded me anywhere on the side of the road. In fact with the recent problems the car has had starting, I wasn't afraid to drive up to Duluth last weekend. I knew it would start. It just started hard. Now it's back to running just fine. And the problem I thought I was having with my rear drakes. Turned out to be worn rear shocks. The only problem there is that my Buick has auto leveling. So the shocks weren't cheap.Again, nothing really unusual for the age or mileage of the car. It just slows me down on buying more models that I want for right now. I guess I'll just have to wait a month or two on buying any more. Edited March 27, 2016 by unclescott58
Tom Geiger Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 (edited) My Easter Day Irk... Holiday Drivers! Today I drove both the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Turnpikes and found my share of idiots going 50 on roads with a 65 mph speed limit that normally travels at 75-80. And these idiots don't stay to the right either. Numpty of the day award goes to the genius that got into the high speed E-Zpass lane, got halfway through the toll reader, got confused and jammed their brakes! Which led to a big chain reaction of the same, about a dozen cars. I stopped but the guy behind me nearly hit me. AND my large cooler in the trunk got jostled and my two trays of Deviled Eggs hit the sides of their boxes. Big mess! Then on the way home where the PA Turnpike is only two lanes, we had dueling idiots... two of them going 50 mph side by side for the last 3 miles of my ride! Edited March 28, 2016 by Tom Geiger
vintagedragcrazy Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 I hope they we still edible cause they sure looked good in fact they looked so good I went out to the kitchen and made deviled eggs for our Easter dinner and they dissappeared really fast. But thanks Tom for the inspiration to make them.vince
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 (edited) I've told my friends to please NOT EVER just drop in on me.I do stuff that sometimes can require concentration and timing, especially composite work that I simply CAN NOT walk away from in the middle of the process...without ruining the part or mold.DO NOT DROP IN doesn't mean call me from the driveway either, and announce "I don't want to bother you (but I'm here so you're a mean person if you don't drop your life and pay attention to me)".I CARE about my friends. They're good people and I enjoy seeing them, but what's so hard about understanding "do not drop in"? Edited March 28, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
