People who come up to the house ringing the door bell trying to sell me something when I have a nice plaque stating "Please no Solicitors ". Maybe I need a larger sign ????

Maybe you need to remove PLEASE and add a Capital N to the no. Sadly seems being Polite these days just gets one walked on. As to Me, well I Give Ulcers, I Don't Get'em.

seems rather codependent to go through life needing everyone's approval.

You really don't understand very much of anything, do you ?

And do you actually BUILD MODELS, or just sign on here to see if you can continue getting away with poking the bears with a stick?

On August 12, I ordered the Sox & Martin and Dick Landy books from Amazon. I don't order from them often but have always been impressed with their speed--usually under a week, even with the "free shipping." Thought the books would be here by last weekend AT LEAST. Still no joy, even today (Aug 31). Logged onto my Amazon account today and it says the books HAVE NOT EVEN SHIPPED YET and expected delivery is Sep 8!!! WTF!

Meanwhile, I bought another old AMT Corvette off eBay Monday night from some random somebody, got an email last night that he's shipped it and chances are good I'll be able to play with it over Labor Day. (Most eBay sellers are REALLY good these days in my experience.)

August 12! Not Shipped Yet! WTF!

After a really long and hot, humid summer here in Charlotte, the weatherman was all excited the other day to tell us a cold front was coming and this weekend would be mid-80's and low humidity and I thought to myself, maybe I can get some stuff painted! Well, checked the weather tonight while dining and whadda ya know, a hurricane is coming! Supposedly we are going to see Hermine come through Georgia and South Carolina before hitting North Carolina and getting anywhere from 4-10 inches of rain from Thursday night into Saturday morning. We could really use the rain, just not that much that fast!

I guess I better plan on getting the gutters clean tomorrow after work and making sure we have water and flashlights ready just in case it gets bad. With any luck we don't lose power and I can get some painting done!

Thanks for the above Bill. No truer words spoken.

The problem is that people don't WANT to be respected, because they don't want to be obligated to show anyone else respect.......... and niceness is interpreted as weakness!

Sad state........... :(

I've found that often to be the case, and very often among insecure men who think they have to be loudmouthed macho bullies to prove that they're tough.

I made a stupid noob mistake, and it's costing me plenty of extra effort to fix it.

While getting my '29 scratchbashed dry-lakes roadster ready to paint, I rushed the final sanding just a bit so as to get on with the project. After the first 3 coats of paint, I needed to sand a little peel out before shooting more. In the process, I went through the paint into primer in a couple of areas I SHOULD have got straighter BEFORE I ever started painting.

So, when I re-coated the little car, on the areas I sanded through the paint acted much like enamel rather than lacquer, wrinkling around the edges. I can't just bury it in mist coats, as there's fine detail I don't want to obliterate. Nor do I want to strip it, because that will eat into my carefully done bodywork and really make a mess...further delaying the build by weeks.

Yes, I'm irked that my own impatience to try to finish SOMETHING has bitten my behind...as I knew it probably would.

Lesson: Shortcuts rarely are. Stick to what you KNOW works, even if it takes a little longer. ;)

And I got the eBay Corvette today, less than 70 hours after submitting the winning bid. And Amazon hasn't yet shipped my books after three WEEKS!

Update- Seems the tropical storm is tracking closer to the coastline and we will be spared much of the rain and should have a beautiful weekend afterall.

Our development has two entrances and a "No Soliciting" sign at each.  Still our door bell rings.   When I told the Jehovahs that, they said religious and political groups are exempt from the ordinances. I haven't checked that out.  My favorite are the teams of two who show up trying to sell me Anderson windows.  I let them know the houses in this development are all too new to need new windows and they came with Anderson windows to begin with!   If they persist I ask them if they are telling me that Anderson windows last less than 20 years AND if so why would I buy some from you??  :P

I had a JW or maybe he was a SDA who rang my doorbell on Saturday afternoons during my nap at least once a month. I told him to leave me alone and not bother me at least twice. Finally one day I invited him in, had him sit down, made nice with him for ten minutes, got his full name and where he lived, and then said, very nicely, "Joe, if you EVER ring my doorbell again, I'm going to call the sheriff and have you arrested, and if you're gone when he gets here, I'm going to swear out and sign a complaint and have you arrested for trespassing and anything else that might apply. If you insist on interfering with my sleep, we're going to see if I can interfere with yours." I never saw him again.

The religious folk who ring the bell here have been good.  It's the Verizon people I can't stand.  I've still got a land line, no cable (only reason I have a TV at all is to play recorded stuff) yet last year they were constantly pestering me to "save me money".  One person came around at 9:00 in the evening.  Anything they were offering was at least twice the cost of what I've got now, and that's before all the taxes and surcharges New York piles on.

They've even started sending service people around hoping to catch people off guard, to "upgrade their services".  First thing they do is disconnect the land line, which, once disconnected, they won't reconnect for any reason.  I wonder how many seniors they dupe out of their phone services pulling that krap.  I had a couple of those visits on Saturday mornings, had to tell them to get lost or I'd call the police.  Called them to get the phone, e-mail, and in-person solicitations (two or three calls a week) stopped, about a week later they were still calling.  I found the information to open a criminal complaint (like for a stalker or an obscene caller), and called.  When they asked if I knew who was placing the offensive calls, I told them "Verizon".  Haven't heard from them since...

Mark, I had held out on getting cable for the longest time. My kids complained that it was hurting them psychologically because they didn't know the tv shows their friends were talking about!   What finally happened was 9-11. I lived in the NJ suburbs then.  All the TV antennas for the top three networks  were on top of the World Trade Center with no backup.  So TV went dark in the region.  There was no estimate at how long it would take to fashion up new towers somewhere, so we got basic cable.  Actually the Verizon truck spent about a week on our block as all the hold outs like us  signed up.

I'm not holding out on getting cable; I just flat-out do not watch TV.  The last couple of (non-cable) series I used to watch were Law & Order (the original one, not the spinoffs) and CSI (same deal, the original).  When Jerry Orbach left L&O, I packed that one in.  When they were giving out the conversion boxes for regular TV, I didn't even bother to get one.  I just wasn't interested.

My mom had cable (she had macular degeneration and wasn't able to read anymore, something she liked to do) so whenever I was visiting, the TV was usually on.  Two hundred or so channels, maybe ten with anything watchable.  And when there was a partial loss of service, the only channels available would be the garbage ones.  Only by dumb luck would anything worthwhile come on for the most part.  And everything is run over, and over, and over.  There are a few movies I could have watched a hundred times or more over a given summer.  We'd watch baseball whenever we could catch a game.  Only a couple of other shows did anything for me, Mythbusters and Wheeler Dealers.  Even those two were rerun a bunch of times.  I just don't see enough out there that would make me get off of my wallet for either cable TV or satellite radio.  And if I'm not using it, I don't feel like paying for it as part of a "bundle".

Stepped in cat poop on my patio

There oughta be a law

Put a few mothballs down around the border of your porch or patio every few feet. Cats don't like the smell, so they don't hang around. Had that same problem till i tried it. it works!!:)
