FoMoCo66 Posted Tuesday at 10:33 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:33 PM Had a little oopsie during marching band practice, slipped down a wet hill. Not proud of it, the thing was $100 and had a lot of tarnish, but at least it was straight. 6

I've seen videos of professionals repairing them, as a metal worker I look at musical instruments as works of art. No doubt that's gonna be costly.

Never would I ever trust some place like west music, they charge out the nose. Edited Wednesday at 01:32 AM by FoMoCo66 1

Sound is apparently mixed for Theatre Use, not the Home. It punches the Music way up while muting the dialog with the dialog constantly shifting from a medium mumble to almost silent... Due to my tinnitus I almost always have to watch movies with the closed captioning on, but for movies made in the last few years, it is getting ridiculous...... And there is seemingly no way to reverse the sounds. Movie watching is just harder to do now. Irks me greatly. I feel your pain with the tinnitus. It sucks to have to read a movie while you are watching it. My wife and I recently bought a "cheap" Dolby Atmos sound bar and it's made quite a difference with movie dialogue. It's no longer buried under all the other sounds and musical score. It's not perfect, but it's a lot better. 2 2
TonyK Posted Wednesday at 04:32 PM Posted Wednesday at 04:32 PM My wife has no problems with hearing but uses closed captioning all the time when she watches tv. I hate it so when we watch something together it's off. 1
stavanzer Posted Wednesday at 10:03 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:03 PM We started using C.C. when we began to watch Chinese and Korean Soap Operas. Had to have it for that, since neither of us speaks the languages. Then I started watching British, and Australian TV shows on Prime, and found that using C.C. made it much easier to understand them. Now, It stays on for everything, but despite my Tinnitus and diminishing hearing I do like to try to hear sound and dialog. It's just the way the sound seems to be mixed on Modren Movies, with out a soundbar, the Loud's are too Loud, and the dialog is too soft. Not sure why they do it.
John M. Posted Thursday at 02:04 AM Posted Thursday at 02:04 AM My mechanic had to replace the alternator on my trusty 08 Corolla today but the bill wasn't as bad as I thought. And like some of the parts that I had replaced on the 97 Accord I had before, my mechanic speculated that it could have been installed at the factory. A testament to the quality of both Honda and Toyota. Plus, I had to reschedule the appointment at the local Toyota dealer so the problem with the front passenger airbag as part of the recall that I mentioned can be rectified from this Friday to Friday of next week. The GM informed me that we'll be more busy this Friday with mainly field trips so it's all hands on deck. I need to wait while the car is in the dealer's shop. I couldn't get a ride back and forth.
89AKurt Posted Thursday at 03:56 AM Posted Thursday at 03:56 AM Playing pseudo bureaucracy as a water district board member, I get to see *boring* infrastructure behind-the-scenes stuff. ADOT (Arizona's highway kingdom) has forced us, the District, to pay for a *bore* hole test, where we were scheduled to *bore* under the highway to replace the water main going from the pump house on the east side, to the tanks on the west side. We had a huge leak last year, I discovered it on a wild fluke. Our temporary main is running through a box culvert, has shown that was a major leak for years. So here we sit, waiting for the State to pull it's head out. The crew tasked to do their job, wondered why we were wasting money. Getting the specifications, as in where in lane 2, how deep, simple details back and forth with our Manager big waste of time and money. Then, without having the results from the lab, they said we can proceed! Seriously? Ain't that sweet of them? Here we are, the in the desert where there is no water and everyone is moving here anyway, found a monster leak, being screwed with just because. No wonder nobody wants to volunteer to take my Secretary job away. 💦 1

gbdolfans Posted Thursday at 01:04 PM Posted Thursday at 01:04 PM Hi folks, I was in a large home improvement store yesterday looking for something like a weed eater with a blade instead of string. I need to clean out some brush and things like blackberry vines. I went to the area that had those items and everything was locked up behind steel bars. Could not see anything. I tried to find someone to help me and after searching awhile, went to customer service. They said they would call for help. I waited and waited and still no one came. I went back to CS and asked for help again. I heard them call over the pa and hoped to see a real person. After waiting again, I went to CS and told them they lost a nice sale. I don't know what the item is called to look up. I guess I will go to my local store of a different brand. They are always helpful. I went to this other brand because I was in area. Thanks for your time !! 2 1
ranma Posted Thursday at 05:27 PM Posted Thursday at 05:27 PM Companies that discontinue popular food items! First was Kellogg's discontinued the Onion flavored Toasted's Crackers. Now Ritz since getting bought out now discontinued The Ritz Toasted everything chips! Both were popular selling products, and it showed when at the store they sold out before the other flavors! 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted Thursday at 05:32 PM Posted Thursday at 05:32 PM (edited) Just bought a few pieces of steel strip and rectangular stock that would have been under $10 not that long ago, now well over $30. I used to marvel at how cheap steel was, considering everything you could do with it. I guess the universe was listening to my thoughts. "We'll show him..." It would take a long time to mention all my favorite food items discontinued over the years. I often kept parts of their packaging just to remind me how miss them. As you mentioned, many seemed like they were good sellers, Then of course are the mega-mergers causing the combined company to drop some products. Not happy about it. My little world of pleasures is getting smaller and smaller. 2

I have walked in (the ancient method of transporting yourself from car to store interior, then around it) in four businesses and waited patiently to be recognized as a person. I will never go into REI, Cracker Barrel (before the bouncing ball was released) or a local glass shop again (forth was more than memory holds lol). So of course if you are the only game in town, tell me.... 1

TonyK Posted Friday at 12:18 PM Posted Friday at 12:18 PM Sirius XM decided to drop the Beach Boys channel already. They do this every year where they bring it on for maybe a month and then it's gone. I was hoping it would be a permanent channel like the Beatles, Ozzy, Tom Petty, etc. 2

Thanks for your time !! Unfortunately instead of having enough staff the solution is to lock everything up. If there was enough staff they wouldn't need to lock everything up. Walmart does this all the time. My sister has found that it's easier to do parking lot pickup rather than trying to get things opened. I suspect that getting customers to do parking lot pickup is the desired result which means that can further reduce the number of employees.

Yeah, I was in Home Despot yesterday and was surprised to see the amount of cages for goods that have been installed in the last few months. Kindof a sorry statement about what our new-much-mo-better society really is like today. There was a time that theft was the exception, rather than taken for granted. EDIT: Googli's AI obviously doesn't have to pay for business losses due to theft, because it insists that crime is actually down everywhere, and we just shouldn't believe our lying eyes. Ace-Garageguy Posted Friday at 04:08 PM Posted Friday at 04:08 PM What really irked me today is my own back. I was up at 05:00, and it's taken me until past noon to get mobile enough to go in to work. Bugger. 1 1
89AKurt Posted yesterday at 03:46 AM Posted yesterday at 03:46 AM Sprained an ankle two days ago, took the day off yesterday, not bad but it's swollen. Today I got what should be enough rocks, this is the first small load. Forecast said we were going to get slammed with rain, got just a drizzle (that was nice to work in). That's my Irk, best I can do. [pickup has ADS 🤪] 1
