Ace-Garageguy Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 (edited) Lastly, what does it say when an internet forum like ours has members from places where English is a 2nd language, yet for the most part they have far fewer issues with spelling and grammar than many of our US-educated members? Do Europeans have better, more involved parents? Danged if it dont make ya wunder, dont it? Edited February 12, 2015 by Ace-Garageguy
bobthehobbyguy Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 People in general. Particularly drivers. Was out running some errands and had an idoit in a truck pull tight to my bumper at the lights yet when the light changed he'd drive at a distance. Was hoping that if somebody rear ended him I was going to have him pushed into the back of me.
southpier Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 .... I do work with the kids directly in a teacher related situation. .... this is worded oddly. are you a teacher? or the custodian in the school system? hot lunch guy? this isn't the place to be vague.
blunc Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 this is worded oddly. are you a teacher? or the custodian in the school system? hot lunch guy? this isn't the place to be vague. are you implying that the interwebs is the wrong place to be opaque, oblique, or in any other way not totally transparent and blindingly obvious regarding personal information? You could possibly have worded your question thus,... "this is worded oddly, are you a politician?"
unclescott58 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 (edited) this is worded oddly. are you a teacher? or the custodian in the school system? hot lunch guy? this isn't the place to be vague. Substitute educational para. I've talked about this many times before. I mostly work with special ed/special needs kids. 8 years as of this month I've been doing this job. It's the greatest job I've ever had. I love it and the kids. I keep hearing all these different things about how bad the kids are or the how bad education system is today. I don't see it. In general most kid are pretty good. The schools I work at seem to do a pretty good job of educating the kids. I keep hearing how different and lacking the education is that we're giving kids today. I think it's getting better. Between the extra help for special needs kids and technology we have today, I think it's easier to get an education today. If your willing to use it. Now there are some kids who for what ever reason refuse to use the services offered to them. But, that was true when I was in school back in the 60's and 70's. The only thing I see that has gotten worst from "my day" is the use of foul language today. But again that's true with the public in general. I feel the kids reflect a lot of world around them, both inside and outside of school. I do my best at trying to be a good roll model and teach them as much as can. Beyond that, there is not much more that I can do. The question is, what is rest of our society doing to help these kids move forward in a positive manner? The question is, what is rest of our society doing to help these kids move forward in a positive manner? My daughter teaches elementary school and her first job out of college was at a school in a bad area. A lot of the kids were growing up in bad situations and had been taught anti-society values before they hit kindergarten. It's a shame since they are being set up to fail at an early age due to their environment. Still there were good people trying to hold their heads up and do well in those neighborhoods. Often it would be a God fearing, church going grandmother or aunt raising the kids. And those were the best kids, those who were taught values by their family.

disabled modeler Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Teens that seem to think they are immune to having to follow rules. teens and adults in my area fit this too well.
High octane Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I agree as it seems like a LOT of adults don' t think that the rules pertain to them, but only for everybody else.
disabled modeler Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Here common sense and manners lack as well...the no one else on the face of the planet thing.

And thank you for thinking I may be doing good work. I try. I hear a lot complaining by people about how bad this or that is. Rather than complaining, I try to figure out where I can make changes that might make things a little better. I may not be able to fix the big problems. But, by fixing the small ones I can, I can sometimes help fix the bigger problems in the end. And by the way, not all of my attempts work or are even right every time. But at least I try. And overall I am seeing some pretty good results. Scott Edited February 13, 2015 by unclescott58

Scott Colmer Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 After 20 plus years of working in private industry I am back at finishing my teaching credential. I am also going for special Ed kids. I was very surprised at how many test you have to pass to teach in California. And if you think a teacher these days just stands in front of a class running on think again. There are a huge amount of observations and strategies taking place while they are working with the kids. I ran multimillion dollar accounts at the career I am leaving. Teaching makes that look easy.
disabled modeler Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 When I started the disabled builders group here for a bunch of guys it was hard and it was but it got easier as time went by...now only issue is keeping it going I have been trying to fund it by myself other than for a few donations from our plastic brothers here and there. To put salt in the wound a large box of kits were delivered here but someone stole the box it was too big to fit into my lock mail box...postal person has directions where to put them now if there too big.
Mike_G Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I finally figured out why my '85 Dodge mini-truck gets such terrible mileage- the fuel pump body has a crack in it and sprays fuel out the bottom So I went to pull the fuel pump, the nuts came off pretty easy, only I can't get the fuel pump to come out far enough to clear the studs because it hits a part of the carb
blunc Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 (edited) My "smoking deal" of a 1/32 Lindberg IMSA Corvette arrived as a "steaming pile" of 1/25 Revell snap-together Corvette and the seller won't/can't replace it with the item I ordered. There won't be any positive feedback on this transaction! Edited February 14, 2015 by blunc

Sorry to hear about that Mark. People will steal anything. Someone in the area stole special milk for a toddler of someone's porch. I don't understand why it was left with people at home and why it was a package not requiring a signature..

Thanks Carl...it was a huge bummer for the guys....all they would have had to do is ask for one but I imagine they had no clue to what was in the box anyway...just a thief. At least now the mail people know what to do if its too big for the lock box. Here most ups,fed-x,etc. will just drop the box and knock on the door and walk back to their truck for the most part but I am usually home too.
Tom Geiger Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 (edited) Here most ups,fed-x,etc. will just drop the box and knock on the door and walk back to their truck for the most part but I am usually home too. Here in PA they don't even knock! UPS especially just backs the truck up the driveway and leaves the package anywhere. I once saw the driver toss a package onto the driveway from his seat. Didn't even leave the truck. Last year I was anticipating a package needed for NNL East and when I checked, found out UPS said they delivered it a week earlier... where was it? Delivered under my car. So I filed a form with them asking for delivery to the front door. Nope! Still dumping stuff in the driveway, and in places we wouldn't normally see. FedEx not much better. When we bought our bed last fall, we got free pillows and sheets, that were sent that way. These clowns delivered it curbside and put the box next to our garbage pails. If my wife didn't notice it on her way to work, the garbage men would have taken it. USPS is better. We have a curbside delivery box, but when I have a package larger than the box, they will bring it to the front door, AND ring the bell and wait for us to answer. My wife had a condolence plant delivered from 1-800-flowers last week. Live frickin plant and UPS just dropped it in the driveway, up next to the garage, with a car parked in front of it. I found it around noon the next day when I opened the garage door. Plant frozen solid and dead. Called the flower company and they were most helpful in replacing the plant and we scheduled delivery yesterday since we'd be home. Again found it in the driveway.. plant dead. disabled modeler Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 (edited) Tom...My condolences to your wife buddy. That reminds me it seems people get rewarded by their employers to mess up for some reason....when I worked if you so much as farted out of tune you were history. I guess some people have to steal and some just cant take any pride in their work ether...future looks great thinking of this huh? Edited February 14, 2015 by disabled modeler

Now USPS brings it to my carport and sits it by the step so no one will see it. She knows I am asleep from my meds when she runs my street. I know the post office people here and it helps being in the post office shipping model stuff you get to know them...
slusher Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Tired of snow and ice already and its only been 4 days. That's one reason I like it here in the south...
