rattle can man Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Phone menu circles. Called a company today to request a copy of a document navigated through their menu 3 times and never got to talk to a person. Or what I needed for taxes
89AKurt Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Google has been telling me my email is almost full. I started deleting emails starting from the beginning, when I woke at 2 AM (a few days ago) thought it would put me back to sleep. There were almost 9,000! Had three sessions to date, down to about 5,000. I just checked my email, Google says I'm at 98% full now, and of course have an offer to buy more space. They are using the same (🤬bleep🤬) business model as Apple, which I paid for more iCloud space, so they are now duplicating every picture. Have I ever said I hate Technology? 1

I had the same thing with my Gmail and photos, so I starting deleting as much as possible, even things I really didn't want to delete. As you, the sales pitch was constant with the threat of still running out of space. I grew very tired of the BS, and once I turned of the cloud I had no more issues. So big deal things aren't backed up. I'm not living in a virtual world. You can always have your photos transferred onto a cd or simply printed. Yes, technology can have it's perks but it also has it's downfalls. I still prefer the old camera and film combo although the phone is convenient. 1
89AKurt Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Woke up around 1AM, couldn't go back to sleep. 🤬 I figured out the problem, I had not deleted the deleted emails from the Trash file. Lost track of how many clicks it takes to dump an email. 2

I'm a bit anal, I trash email files daily, also delete unnecessary screenshots and photos I took as a reference to remind, such as store items or prices. None of those practices seem to mattered. Disabling the cloud was the ticket to my freedom. 2
Rob Hall Posted February 21 Posted February 21 I upgraded my Gmail a while back so I have a lot more space available, though I try and delete old mails once a year or so. 1
crazyjim Posted February 21 Posted February 21 I use AOL for email and delete emails after reading them. 1

Before I started the purge, was deleting all the MCM emails as I saw them, except my 'Once Upon A Time' which is my door into the forum. There were pages that half were MCM emails, which I never opened. So I guess this old dog learned a new trick, yay. 2
peteski Posted February 21 Posted February 21 How much "mail" do you guys have??!?! My free Gmail account which I had for over 20 years has 15GB of space and I'm only using 0.18Gb! Imagine if you left all your snail-mail spam sitting by your front door - you would have a huge pile! Gotta purge! 2

Gotta purge! I've never been into computers. It's a tool, if I rented a car, I wouldn't care about the engine displacement, I just want it to run. But to answer your question: "You’ve used 14.71 GB of your 15 GB ..." I'm up to mid 2023 so far, saved about 25 emails so far, a couple from my deceased mom just because. Since I'm on a water district board, found out there was a big leak across the highway, those customers were without water for hours, so I'll post for them. Short story, my subdivision was built by a wildcat developer starting in 1964, they threw the Transite pipe (cement asbestos, hundreds of thousands of miles are across the country) into rocky trenches, it's always been an issue, we got it down to 20-21% leakage. So that has been a long running irk. 1

I'm up to mid 2023 so far, saved about 25 emails so far, a couple from my deceased mom just because. Just a tool or not, space managements not just a computer thing. Emails are like pieces of snail-mail. Whether virtual (emails) or physical, if you let them pile up, they will fill your whole house (or space allotted for your emails). In my experience most emails are rather small in size, so to fill 14,710,000,000 bytes takes a lot of individual emails. As for just wanting it "to run", just like your car your email account needs some periodic maintenance to keep running well. It will automatically purge the emails it marks as SPAM, but it doesn't know how important or unimportant are all the other emails you never deleted after reading them. Don't forget to go through your "sent" email folder where all the emails you sent are stored. Good luck with the purge. 1
stinkybritches Posted February 22 Posted February 22 (edited) Gmail is not the problem. A Gmail account is included when a Google account is created. It's the Google account storage that is filling up. They give 15 gigs of space when creating an account. That space is used for photos, videos, Gmail, and anything else that is synced to a Google account. Edited February 22 by stinkybritches More words 2
LennyB Posted February 22 Posted February 22 This irks me every time. Don’t know if they just do this where I live or all over. Buy a head of iceberg lettuce and it comes wrapped in a plastic bag with the end twisted and then folded over and taped down with clear tape. I can rarely find the end of the tape to remove it and open the bag. Most of the time I have to cut open the bag and then you can’t reuse it. You would think if they can make a bag of M&M’s resealable they could do the same for iceberg lettuce. 3

After finally getting it open, I'll put it in a gallon ziploc baggie and toss out the original bag it came in. 3
stavanzer Posted February 23 Posted February 23 This thread... For as many Trillions of bucks we have collectively wasted as a country on Graft and Waste, we could not find the millions to save this example of U.S. Engineering at it's Peak? Sad, Sad, Sad! 4

They do the same with cauliflower and probably other veggies which have similar shape. Only way to deal with this is very sharp pointy knife. Even if you found the tape's end the adhesive is so aggressive that it will most likely rip the plastic bag instead of coming off. Ask me how I know. 1

There's no shortage of ways to chop and compress junk mail and other waste products into fire-logs. Just sayin... 3
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Speaking of junk mail...I wish the funeral home people would quit sending me reminders that it's time to go soon. Don't rush me, fellas. I'll go when I'm da---d well ready, and I sure as h--- won't be patronizing anyone who sent me junk mail. Then again...maybe they know something I don't... 6

It's also that way with whatever you inquire about. While going through the process of my Dad's Will with the Registry of Wills, I constantly received mailers offering their condolences followed by "Need Help Navigating through the Estate" to "Hey we're here to help you sell your house." Then when my brother started looking into buying a used car the adds for dealerships were relentless on his cellphone. It's maddening, annoying and down right invasive. Here's a funeral home for ya when you're ready.. lol 3

I have a 2010 Toyota RAV4 with 340K miles on the clock and a '99 RAV4 with 470K miles on it. I took them both to the local Toyota dealer to have recalls completed (because Commiefornicatia will not renew your registration if you have open recalls). Since then, I am bombarded with snail-mail, email, texts and phone calls informing me that my 2010 RAV4 is due for its 60,000 mile service. Either car has never been to this dealer for anything other than 1 recall on each car. Funny thing is, they haven't ONCE solicited me for service on my '99 RAV4. 2
TonyK Posted February 23 Posted February 23 We have those big cluster boxes for our mail. The mailman opens the doors and has complete access to all the slots. A small box was tossed into our slot. The problem is when the big doors are closed you lose about 1/2 an inch in your slot because of the lip on the top and bottom where the little doors are to get your mail. I had to wrench and pry for awhile to get the box out of our slot. The mail carrier doesn't factor this in when shoving various items in there. But, I guess I should just be happy I got my mail! 2 1 1

My mailman likes to hit my mailbox, and delivers our mail one street over, same number different street name. Not to mention "do not fold" envelopes folded in half. Incompetent to say the least. 1 2

That used to happen to me...my last neighborhood had 3 parallel streets with similar names--- St Joseph, St Francis, St Anthony..my mail would occasionally end up at the house with the same number but on a different Saint and vice versa.. 1 1

The funny thing about the adress is it is directly behind my property, 300 or so yards though the woods, but a half mile by road. Almost like the carrier figures we'll do their job for them.
