sjordan2 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 (edited) 1. NAPA showed a lot of class by divorcing themselves from this ugly situation.2. I have shot TV commercials with Michael Waltrip and he is one of the nicest celebrities I've ever met -- and I've worked with a lot of them (there are a couple of former NASCAR stars that were ridiculous egomaniacs, but I won't name them). Darrell is also a terrific guy. I have confidence in Michael being a straight-up professional. Edited September 20, 2013 by sjordan2
Longbox55 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I would be more inclined to think he would go to Furniture Row Racing, they're still looking for a driver, and someone of Truex's caliber would be a good fit.
1930fordpickup Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I will not change were I buy my parts .I buy mostly at NAPA for my parts. I think they are just getting out while they can. This has more to do with another team ( Chevy Camp) that needs a sponsor than what they did wrong.

Andy- Most of the Chevy teams are at the NASCAR max of 4 drivers- Stewart-Haas, RCR & Hendrick all have 4 drivers. There is Furniture Row, which receives support from RCR, that could add a driver. I think NAPA and JGR make a good fit as Coach runs a tight organization and could easily add a 4th car if the sponsor was there. NAPA hung around MWR for a long time and got through the fuel additive scandal and lack of qualifying in the early years, mainly because of Michael's appeal as a spokesman. I think this incident was more about appearances and public perception than looking to get out of racing. I think you will see something happen withing the next week or two regarding 2014 and beyond.

gluebomb Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I think NASCAR is somewhat dumb anyway and I work at Carquest so the answer to the question is absolutely no!

So, all the times that Gibb has been caught with illegal equipment (almost always hand waved by Nascar) and the on track "accidents" caused by one JGR driver that benefited the other (mainly Hamlin) counts as "running a tight ship"????
1930fordpickup Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Childress has one more bully to put behind the wheel. What was all the talk of Burton and Newman needing another sponsor soon.
Longbox55 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Burton is leaving RCR. Childress only has Newman, Menard, and Dillon in Cup, Menard and Dillon both have sponsors (Menards and Cheerios, respectively). With Budweiser leaving to go with Harvick, they do still need a sponsor for Newman.
martinfan5 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Childress has one more bully to put behind the wheel. What was all the talk of Burton and Newman needing another sponsor soon.Newman will have sponsorship from Caterpillar next year, and Burton, does not have a ride for 2014 at this moment
Longbox55 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Correction, Newman does have a sponsor; Caterpillar.
moparfarmer Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 When Waltrip first started it was funny fuel then this...NAPA did the right thing..I personally don't think this is completely over yet...Toyota(although I'am not a fan of theirs) still hasn't said anything...More could roll because of this..I feel for Martin. Maybe if he goes elsewhere NAPA will follow him...Would serve Waltrip right...
1930fordpickup Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I did not know that Newman had a new Sponsor . The first story I herd /read the same day , was that Burton only wanted to drive full time one more year and he did not have a sponsor so he got the boot ( call it what you want) . Then Newman had Sponsor trouble at SHR-Hentrix Lite . LOL Not that I blame any team for parting ways with a driver for not winning but call it what it is . The real fans understand were there driver is .
Dragline Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I also work for NAPA and have only met Ron Capps but he is a super guy. As for the change? I see the Corporate view easy enough. It does seem a bit drastic but the image is all so important. I didn't get a memo or a voice in this whole thing. I wonder why that is? Bob
1930fordpickup Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I guess my big beef with this is the media . They started all this stuff days before NAPA said a word. Now they are stirring the pot with the other sponsor. Lets be real drivers do each other favors all year on the track. No I am not a fan of Waltrip , before you ask.
mikemodeler Posted September 20, 2013 Author Posted September 20, 2013 Don't know if NAPA & Truex will land at RCR, but that could happen. Bill- in regards to JGR and mystery "accidents", I think all teams are guilty of it, MWR was just blatant and got caught.
Longbox55 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I never said other teams don't do it, they certainly do. But JGR drivers are well known for doing it. They've even been caught doing it, but were not penalized other than an "end of the longest line" penalty.
kitbash1 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Who they sponsor( or don't sponsor ) has ZERO influence as to where or who I buy auto parts from ( or any thing I buy actually) .I buy based on service 1st, price 2nd I try my best to buy locally and usually try my local mom and pop shops first for as much as possibile Were I live, we have no mom and pop parts stores. I get most of my parts from the Canadian Tire store behind my subdivision. I also deal with Parts Source and Warden Automotive. NAPA is on the high end of the price scale, so I don't shop there.
slusher Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Will it be really hard for MWR to find a sponsor as big as Napa after all the media attention??
1930fordpickup Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 That is a good question Carl. The fans calling into the NASCAR station on Sirius are not happy at all. It is funny because they seam to be split on who is to blame. That is NASCAR fans. LOL
KingSix Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 I stopped buying parts at NAPA because of Waltrip Racing. I can't stand him.
afxmustang Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 I don't buy a product or shop at a certain store because of who they sponsor or who does their commercials.
MachinistMark Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 If anything I'm more likely to shop at Napa now that they've dropped that muppet
Dave Van Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 NAPA wanted to move on...this was an excuse. This one strike your out rule should be applied to politicians and corporate executives first.......LOTS of turnover then!!!!!
Joe Handley Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 I rarely shop there anyway, Usually just oil filters for my Jeep (Napa filters are made by WIX!), usually if the Jeep needs parts, I've tended to prefer Mopar Parts and they don't carry the brand of brake pads I preferred either.
