James2 Posted October 2, 2013 Author Posted October 2, 2013 I had to wedge section the interior tub so the frame would fit level under the body. I scribe'd both sides and the rear, pushed it up some and sanded the edges until it fit better. And I couldn't resist another mock up shot. Also I tried a couple of B pillar designs, but this one looked the best to me.
slusher Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Real nice work so far James and you got her in the weeds ...cool.
ChrisBcritter Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 That wedge section job is amazing - the lines have a whole new flow to them, kind of like a Hudson. I wonder if any 1/1 Mercurys have had the same treatment?
Dr. Cranky Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Looks like you are quite comfortable and good at this kind of modification. Looking great so far.
Draggon Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Very nice profile! Like the choice of wheelcovers, will it have whitewalls?
Blown03SVT Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 The silhouette is beautiful with the hard top. I know the skirts are very traditional Hirohata style buy the think the front cove scoop of the skirt is fighting with the gorgeous lines you have created that work well with the dog leg from the fender to the door.
James2 Posted October 3, 2013 Author Posted October 3, 2013 Very nice profile! Like the choice of wheelcovers, will it have whitewalls? Thanks Glenn, it will, I needed to make sure they will fit. Their slightly taller than the radials. The silhouette is beautiful with the hard top. I know the skirts are very traditional Hirohata style buy the think the front cove scoop of the skirt is fighting with the gorgeous lines you have created that work well with the dog leg from the fender to the door. Thank you Eric, I'm still working out the lines. But the skirt follows the front fender radius pretty closely. I still need to rework that area.
James2 Posted October 6, 2013 Author Posted October 6, 2013 Managed a little more mock-up... If I keep the lights I'll mold them in. The grill is from a 51 Chevy, I just trimmed the top hoop off. What ya think? 1
slusher Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 l really like the lights and grill James. Very cool and different...
Kaleb Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Sweet, would you mind if we posted some of these shots on Instagram?
James2 Posted October 7, 2013 Author Posted October 7, 2013 (edited) Help yourself, thanks for the interest. Edited October 8, 2013 by James2
bisc63 Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I think you're doing a great job of personalizing this body. There's been so many Mercs that have a sameness because builders are afraid to vary from a perceived "formula" for a chopped Merc. This is going to be so cool....
James2 Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 Thanks Rusty, that was the plan., cool but different.
James2 Posted October 10, 2013 Author Posted October 10, 2013 The beginnings of smoothness! Still quite a bit of sanding to do, but wanted to share where we are with the body work. 1
David G. Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Excellent work! You've got some cool custom mods going. David G.
Dinky Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Very nice, what type of glue do you use to put the body back together?
Custom Hearse Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I love what you've done on hinging the hood! The bodywork looks great!!!
