Joe Handley Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Our "official" snowfall total yesterday: 1.5 inches. Can winter be over now? Pleeeeeeeeez??? We shouldn't be too far short of the winter of '77-'78 after this year, last I read, we were pretty close!
Harry P. Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 We shouldn't be too far short of the winter of '77-'78 after this year, last I read, we were pretty close! But the thing is, they stop counting after a certain date. We're already technically in Spring, so yesterday's snow doesn't get counted as part of last winter's total. I think the actual "official" winter snowfall total was the third highest in history for this area.
High octane Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Well then Harry, will yesterday's snow count for the winter or 2014/2015 then? You could also make a snowball and freeze it and you'll have it "on hand" for when you need it. LOL!
Danno Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Yeah, they definitely have snow in So Cal...I've seen it in the Big Bear area. Lake Tahoe. Mammoth.

And no thanks on keeping a snowball on hand for when I need it... because I have no need for snow. Ever.
Agent G Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 NEVER??? They have snow in California and I've seen snow just outside of Vegas also. Do you want some? It snowed IN Vegas in 2008. I live in Henderson and received 8 inches of heavy wet snow. There is snow atop Mt Charleston until at least early May. G
1930fordpickup Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 (edited) We had an inch plus this morning. It did not start to melt till 5:30 tonight. They say we might break a record for resetting records for cold temps in one year. Edited April 15, 2014 by 1930fordpickup
Craig Irwin Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Our 1.5 inches was the first measurable April snowfall since 2001, and that one wasn't this late in the month. Right now it is 35 with the wind chill of 27. Back below freezing (28) tonight .
High octane Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 I've seen snow on Mt. Charleston in early May before. I commented to my wife as we were driving there, that the mountains reminded me of the mountains in Colorado, except that there was no snow. Then we saw Mt. Charleston with snow on it.
Kris Morgan Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 (edited) Sunday it was 79 degrees. Last night we got just over three inches of wet snow. That broke our record. The 2013-2014 winter will go down as the snowiest winter in history for the metro Detroit area with a touch over 94 inches total. Calling for a high near 60 tomorrow. charlie8575 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Heading home from Eastern Star tonight was a snow/sleet/rain mix. All kinds of fun driving, especially the long run I have (about 60 miles to my chapter- ended up there because I was living out that way and I have a lot of friends in that chapter,) and late at night. Rain all day tomorrow- well, today, and more Thursday, and in the 40s. Yuck. Charlie Larkin

mnwildpunk Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Yup april 16th and Minneapolis got about two inches of sneet (snow/sleet) neat-o. Funny thing was the weekend before we had 70°F weather. Old man winter is fighting tooth and nail with mother nature I'm rooting for mother nature myself
Pete J. Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 I saw some snow on TV last night. Does that count?

Tom Geiger Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 So did I..I watched the new 'Fargo' series.. I taped it. Is it worth watching?
Danno Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I taped it. Is it worth watching? It's . . . interesting, you betcha. Dern tootin' its sumpin' else, right there, don'tcha know. Billy Bob Thornton at his darkest, evilest best. Oh, yah.
Rob Hall Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I taped it. Is it worth watching? I liked it... interesting characters and settings, good actors, Coen Brothers quirkiness...will be watching again next week...
High octane Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 It's "Official" Harry as I drained the gas in the snow -thrower and put it away along with the shovel and ice melt as well today.
High octane Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Don't worry Harry, as it'll be back in about 8 short months or so.
Rob Hall Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 (edited) Don't worry Harry, as it'll be back in about 8 short months or so. Yeah, gives you something to look forward to in 6-7 months. Just like here in AZ, after May I'll be looking forward to October for nice weather again since June-September are usually disgusting. Edited April 18, 2014 by Rob Hall
cobraman Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Yes, time to put new filters in the cold air returns and get the air conditioner ready. : (
