Quick GMC Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 This is terrible. Seems like he is a lot more safe behind the wheel of an F1 than anything else. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-25545993
JM485 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 That is terrible to hear, hopefully he can pull through.
webestang Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 My thoughts and prayers to him and his family.
Daddyfink Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 I did not see a posting on this yet. Sorry if it is a dupe http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/racing/news/20131230/michael-schumacher-skiing-injury-doctors-update.ap/
slusher Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 It really does not sound very good. Skiing is more dangerous then racing...
Quick GMC Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 It really does not sound very good. Skiing is more dangerous then racing... who would have thought? I used to snowboard a lot. It doesn't take much to hurt yourself. He was wearing a helmet, otherwise he'd likely be dead. I hope he recovers.
Custom Hearse Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Michael Schumacher improving, but not out of the woods yet... http://news.yahoo.com/schumacher-39-slightly-improved-39-second-operation-101345425--ski.html;_ylt=A0SO8y6lHMNSaiYAwBNXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTBsOXB2YTRjBHNlYwNzYwRjb2xvA2dxMQR2dGlkAw--
sjordan2 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Evidently he was conscious at the scene, then slipped into a coma. His current coma was medically induced following brain surgery.
scummy Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 (edited) They said on the news here in australia tonight that the helmet he was wearing got smashed in two !!!!!!!!! Now thats a hard fall !!! Edited January 1, 2014 by scummy
Greg Cullinan Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Thoughts and prayers to the Schumacher family.
afx Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 This doesn't sound good. Corinna, Michael's wife is having a medical suite built in their home.
Skip Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 The comment made by the 25 year friend of the family says it all. It all boils down to a quality of life after such a devastating accident like this occurs. So sad. Observation in general, nothing particularly to do with this case. Not meaning to Hijack this thread, however it makes you think about "What if that happened to me?" Sadly in many cases it is family who keep the person alive when they wouldn't want anything to do with the kind of life they will live without some sort of miracle whether it be faith based or medical. I for one wouldn't want that for myself, my family knows it too. That's why it's important to talk those things over with family ahead of time, if you can't talk it over with them put it in writing. A guy I knew when I was younger was accidentally shot in the head in a tragic hunting accident in his early twenties. He was never able to exist beyond a vegetative state, couldn't talk, you weren't sure if the lights were on and nobody was home. He lived like that for another 12 years, in my mind all because his mom was afraid to let him go. That to me was the saddest part of the whole accident.
Draggon Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Yikes, agreed, if it was me I would think its time to go.
afx Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 (edited) I agree with the quality life issues but 3/4 months post-accident is a little soon to give up all hope. I have heard rumors that the hospital wants to free up the critical care bed Schumacher is occupying for patients with greater needs. Edited April 1, 2014 by afx
Modelbuilder Mark Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 scary, how something as dangerous as racing he can get by with for years...then a simple ski trip that people take for granted all the time, can remind us of just how fragile we really are.
DavidChampagne Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I have been a fan of his for a long time. That article broke my heart. I don't mean to sound cold, but, they have finacial means to accomplish this. People have come out from comas before. I think if I was in the famalies position I would do the same. Give it some time, try everything possible and see what happens. I don't know how long I would want to drag it out though, for his sake.
afx Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Schumacher has started to show moments of consciousness.
Joe Handley Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I hope that means good things for him and his family!
Quick GMC Posted April 25, 2014 Author Posted April 25, 2014 Well this is pretty fantastic news https://twitter.com/tanujlakhina/status/459671376853352448
afx Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 WOW! this is really a roller coaster ride. I can't imagine what it is like for his family.
slusher Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I have often wondered how he was but as much as I watch sports and news I have not seen any reports at all and that's not good...
afx Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 I am confused about all the secrecy surrounding Schumacher's condition. I understand the family wanting privacy but I don't see the harm in providing some status as to his condition.
