vamach1 Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I did an inventory of my Mustang kits "in progress" and it's about thirty. Anyone else out there have a problem sticking to one project and finishing it before starting another one? Some of the more interesting projects I started are: AMT 68 Shelby converted to a 67, Original 68 fastback (gluebomb), AMT LIL 68 Shelby Coupe, MPC 69 Coupe Shelby De Mexico, MPC 69 Boss 429, Revell 69 Boss 302, 72 Sprint convertible, 69 Quarterhorse, 68 Mach1 show car (gluebomb) and various 70 MPC fastbacks (Boss, Mach1, Grabber) and some Resin coupes (67 and 73). Let me know if you want to see pictures of anyone in particular.

I'll work on 10 different wip's at a time. All that we do, whether a project gets finished or not is still called "A hobby"! Plus, you learn something with everything you do. so... no, I don't understand the question from the point of view that it is a waste. Nothing is a waste unless it's tossed in the trash. Many times I pull out that old project and find another use for the massive hours spent previously. It's called... "A HOBBY"!

I'm still enjoyin' this forum as well as others, still goin' to model car club meetings, reading model car and 1:1 car mags, and still tryin' to "thin out the herd" some as well.

I once bought a large estate collection and the previous owner had hundreds - literally hundreds of kits started. He would open them, sand a few parts, primer a little, putty something, and put it back in the box. Out of about 700 to 800 kits, I bet 300 were started to some degree. I have about four at the moment.
spotarama Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 i suffer from this syndrome too, as i never build a kit stock (tried a couple of times, needed more challenge) i tend to jump right in and start modifiying then realise i've got no idea how to take it to the next stage, so back in the box it goes until i've learned a new skill (hopefully the appropriate one) and then it can see the light of day.many years ago i decided to combine a rear engined 'dream machine corvette' concept car kit with the ZZTop 34 ford eliminator. it took a few goes before i could work out how the 'vette interior was going into the 34, but one day it just worked, onto the chassi, same thing, i eventually worked out i needed to cut the 'vette chassis and extend it 'just so' and woohoo, it worked, front end, same deal. then engine.....thats where we stalled the last time. gotta work out how to make my own set of exhausts with some serious bends in the before we can move forward. but one day it'll happen. until then there's at least another dozen waiting in the wings for the next stage.don't get me started on the process so far with the 'SnoTow'......thats a tank chassis and tracked, mid engined turbo diesel powered, prime mover trailer hauling 'thing'. it certainly didn't start out to be that and it may not end up that way when i'm done but it's taught me a whole load on the journey.

Except I seem to like rebuilding old wrecks and gluebombs more than put new kits together for some reason... yet I keep buying new kits. I'm just as bad w/ model cars as I am the real thing... I've got 4 project cars, and I like to tinker w/ my daily driver truck too...

By taking pictures from year to year of my unfinished work I am starting to realize how long I have had this sickness. Now I am whittling away at them one by one, just since the end of last year, and finding that if I get over trying to perfect the impossible I can actually finish some, and it feels good! When I started most of them my skills weren't so great anyway, and still aren't for that matter. It just feels good to call them finished and move on! I've gone from 11 unfinished to three so far. "Make a Goal", that's my motto. "Just know when to lay the paintbrush down and call it finished" is another. Edited January 13, 2014 by rmvw guy
tubbs Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) my main problem is that I start projects while looking up stuff for ongoing projects. my magazines and the net are NOT my friends. or when I look for parts, I find some that will go great on this one and another project is born. of course, I still have not gotten the new Merc woody or the hemi cuda, so count on the project pile to grow by 2 in the near future.
