James2 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Focus! I have four or five serious builds going. Very unusual for me to have more than two at any given time. But with winter bearing down here in the north eastern Buckeye state, painting is almost out of the question. I have a nice spaybooth set up in the pole building but just to cold to heat up much. So I build and wait. The problem now is I continue to have new ideas and am strongly tempted to start more projects! Last thing I want is a bunch of non-finished builds sitting around. I'm thinking a build list is in order. Mercury Hardtop 50 Buick 77 Ford 4x4 Tobias relec racer Underslung 32 And so on... How do you keep FOCUS?
Agent G Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) I don't. I currently have 6 builds at various stages and will be starting another for a group build Feb 1. G Edited January 26, 2014 by Agent G
cobraman Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I focus on one build at a time. Very seldom do I have more than one going on. I do have some in the planning stages.
bbowser Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I like to keep three going, in various stages so I can work on what I feel like at the moment. Doesn't always work out though!
Chris White Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I can't focus, unless I borrow someone's glasses (still in denial)
Guest Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I don't either. Have over 100 builds in various stages from barely started to almost finished.
pharoah Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I can't focus, unless I borrow someone's glasses (still in denial) LOL Build list? No way.. I have 3 going now. I'll glue something together, then paint on another, and so on. I've got 4 or 5 'projects sitting in boxes waiting. I don't like to have too many started because I'd never get them done.
TooOld Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I focus on one build at a time. Very seldom do I have more than one going on. I do have some in the planning stages. Same here , one is enough for me . I occasionally will start a second build but it's more just planning and collecting parts than actual building . As slow as I build I'd never finish anything with more than that going at the same time !
slusher Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I have one going and was almost finished but the chassis seems off and unlevel. now I am building a new chassis so one is the most I can handle...
Mooneyzs Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I usually have a few builds going at all times so when I get burnt on one I can work on something else when I feel I need a break for a build.
disabled modeler Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 If you count the ones your waiting to find or get parts to so you can finish them ...I cant count that high...LOL.. I have many that are as far as I can take them till I ether find or can afford the needed parts for them. Then there is the projects waiting to be started.
Prostreet Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 It's dead of winter and i can't even get motivated to build at all, not sure why. Maybe once i get my new hobby room that will change.
Harry P. Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I generally have several different projects going on at once. I see a kit on ebay, get all stoked, buy it, it arrives, I dive into it... then a few days later I see another kit on ebay, get all stoked, buy it, it arrives, previous kit gets put aside as I dive into the new one... lather, rinse, repeat.
PappyD340 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Heck I've tried to just have one build going at one time but I always seem to start another one before I can get it completed I have 3 going right now but I am just about out of somewhere to work so I must complete something before I start soemthing else, yeah what is this focus is that something to eat??

Harry that's how the model stash builds up also....
tubbs Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 HAHA James, you got the sickness now buddy. focus-symocus...... you can blame it on the mass amount of information available to us with the internet. me, I blame it on the wanted section, just got stuff I wanted for a few projects and they are going to hit the table with styrene a-flying!! my wife always tells me that I should be able to do more than 1 thing at a time.
jaydar Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Focus is not my problem. My problem is speed. I have tried one-at-a-time and multiple. For me, neither results in faster builds. Joe.

What's the hurry, kcco ? For me it isn't focus as I can do that well. More time management and not having a workbench dampers the progress.
DrKerry Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Focus??????? What the heck is that?????? The only thing I ever heard about it was from Jackie Chan in Karate Kid saying "Your focus needs more focus".......... I guess I have a ton of focus that being said,,, I have near 40 started and half finished projects..... Wait a minute... then again that could be why I'm KrAzIe!!!!!!!!!
Mooneyzs Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 It's dead of winter and i can't even get motivated to build at all, not sure why. Maybe once i get my new hobby room that will change. Joe... You need to get new hobby room all set up. I sure miss seeing your talent especially the builds in 1/16th scale
Belugawrx Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 The "problem" is that we all need to keep our hands busy for that period of modeling time we have Therefore and I think, and the Dr. will confirm GET AS MANY DONE/STARTED/FINISHED AS YOU CAN!!!!

Amen to that!!!!!! Build, build, BUILD!!!!!!!! :D
Modelbuilder Mark Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 well, I try really really hard, then... Squirrel! In all seriousness, I just try to limit the number of started projects, and then keep my work area somewhat organized. I find that when it is cluttered, so are my thoughts to some extent. Usually, if I have the 2 or 3 projects going, so I can bounch back and forth between them to help keep my mind from wondering onto new projects. If I have a new idea, I set it in the "list" which I try to prioritize. Ultimately, I just try not to set too many expectations that will detract from my enjoyment, such as "this many completed projects this year", or "this one done by this date" that create un-needed preasure. I do set goals of more bench time, more test fitting etc, and still sometimes try to meet a build goal for a group project etc, but in the end, I would say, just relax and enjoy the builing process. If you finish it great, if not, was the journey a good one? Then great.
