Fabrux Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Is that what your LHS is going to sell it for? $70? I honestly don't know what he will be selling them for, but he sells the Meng 1:35 Hilux kits for $44 CDN so this kit for close to $70 seems about right.
lanesteele240 Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I like this kit But i just cant understand why trolls have to bring "this vehicle has a terrible what ever and is not as good as my brand". If you dont like it, dont buy it or even comment. Please dont let my post spiral into a forum fight. I will buy one just to have a change in the stash. Looking forward to seeing some built also. Just as the mobieous truck
Fabrux Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Is that what your LHS is going to sell it for? $70? Heard back from my LHS owner and he expects to sell it for $68.75-69.75 unless he can get a better deal from a supplier.
kjc99 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 A pre-order for this kit popped up on ebay today he's looking for $59.50 before shipping. Says delivery in late April to early May.

kjc99 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 plus $15 shipping I ordered one and it was only $8 to ship, still comes out to almost $70 but since my taxes came back I couldn't resist .

kjc99 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 oh ok, must be a little cheaper for me because of me being closer to the seller, I think my total came to $68 and some change.
stang_crazy Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 To me the price is a lil higher than id like but, that's the way it goes. However the level of detail looks rather nice. Ill have to get at least 1 or 2 of them. Ill just use money from my scrap metal and pop cans, etc.. or even sell a few kits that I am not attached to and get one that way. Im just happy to see someone doing a modern truck, and it being a ford makes it that much more desirable for me as im a big ford guy. I just hope they don't come out with other versions lol Mike
kjc99 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I agree Mike, I look at it kind of like I look at gas prices, is it too much? yes, am I going to buy it anyway? yes. I have been hoping for a super duty kit for years so I'm ok with paying a little more.

Kyle, since you bring up gas prices and compared to the price of this kit, this kit is a steal compared to what it would take to fill the tank on the 1:1!! My 1990 F350 diesel takes 38 gallons to completely fill both tanks and since I'm guessing the 1:1 prototype probably holds at least that much or more, at current prices in my area ($4.459 a gallon), it would be $169.44 (at 38 gallons) to fill the 1:1! Believe me, the only diesel I'll ever own again is this kit, the 1:1s are way too expensive!!
Austin T Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Believe me, the only diesel I'll ever own again is this kit, the 1:1s are way too expensive!! Yea, it seems as if the only cheap diesel's to run are the VW's!

A lot of pumps still have auto shut off at $100 too... Here is my work truck engine, just to show how tight things are...
Rob Hall Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I used to work w/ a guy that had an early 2000s F350 Crew Cab dually diesel as his commuter car and an Expedition diesel as the family hauler. IIRC, he and his wife had horses so they did some towing occasionally...I wouldn't want his weekly fuel bill.

I'm amazed at how many of these I see in rush hour commuter traffic every day. I don't mean dedicated work trucks, but ones without any company markings and a guy wearing a tie driving it to the office.
Harry P. Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Here is my work truck engine, just to show how tight things are... Is there an engine in there somewhere?

I don't mean dedicated work trucks, but ones without any company markings and a guy wearing a tie driving it to the office. Full size trucks and full size SUVs are sort of the full size sedan and wagon equivalents of today...since you can't get huge V8 cars anymore (at least not in '60s-70s sizes) the big trucks and SUVs have taken their place for some buyers.

What the heck is the point of having a big old honkin' pickup as your daily commuter vehicle, dragging that big old empty cargo box around?
martinfan5 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Ditto. What the heck is the point of having a big old honkin' pickup as your daily commuter vehicle, dragging that big old empty cargo box around? So you be cool to own a truck
Tom Geiger Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Ditto. What the heck is the point of having a big old honkin' pickup as your daily commuter vehicle, dragging that big old empty cargo box around? Agreed! What's the sense of driving that huge Dually 4x4 crew cab sucker the size of a small house, on your way to the office as the only occupant? At what? 10 MPG on diesel which costs more than gas these days! For my hauling needs I have my old 1996 Grand Caravan which hasn't had the back seats in it in maybe three years. And that gets 18 MPG. Driving to work on the Turnpike? I take the 1999 Plymouth Breeze 2.4 four cylinder that gets 28 MPG!
martinfan5 Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Thats why I did a trade with my buddy, he got the Dodge Ram, I got the Nissan Maxima, I did not really have a need for a truck, he has a need for a truck, I did not want to have to pay more just to say I own a truck.

Haha I know how you feel Matthew, My 89 F150 (workin on a replica now) has the dual tanks, takes about $100 to fill both where I'm at. I'm glad mine is not diesel I don't think I could afford it!

Most the time diesels get better mpgs than gas hogs and can be upgraded a lot easier to achieve better mpg
Chuck Most Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 (edited) The price is only the first half of the battle. Wait until someone actually gets the kit, then the real nagging can begin. Yes, Italeri truck kits are not 100% true to the prototype. But this kit is already being hailed as the greatest thing ever and its not even here yet. So all us gullible oafs will be quietly waiting until you get your hands on one of these. Then you 'real modelers' can gripe how the trim is .0000000001 too tall, the fenders are too 'sweepy' and there is no scale usb port on the stereo. I'm not a 'real modeler' and I don't gripe about the trim being too tall, too sweepy fenders, and nonexistant USB ports. Stuff like that doesn't matter to me, and from the photos of this I've seen- all that stuff looks good enough to me. Now- Something like a chassis that's completely wrong for the application? I do have a few problems with a manufactuer who'd do that routinely. Just saying... glad Italeri wasn't the company who finally decided to tackle a Super Duty kit. Edited March 11, 2014 by Chuck Most

At least in my old beast, you can find the engine! Yeah, and even with less junk hiding it and no turbo, it actually gets better mileage than the new computer controlled twin turbo trucks. When I was still driving it full time (until life made me park it for a few years, even though I hope sometime this year it will be back on the road) it averaged 15 MPG!
