SteveG Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Here's what it looked like after a rough mock-up six months ago.... Here it is today..... The cab and chassis are still loose as I have to finish up the driveline. I've back-dated a Model King F350 Pickup to a '76 model with an early style grille from my parts box. The cab color is 76 Ford Truck code 4, Ginger Bronze Poly. I still have to attach the rear gate, door step and fix the roof cover as it's a little too wide now from all the paint and foil work, otherwise the Camper section is done! Thanks for looking .... for more in progress photos check out my Fotki Album below, the photos start on page 3. Model King Open Road Camper - Steve 2
bigphoto Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Very Cool, a true "Camper Special" I too like the split grille better I also see the Super Stones box in the background is that the donor truck?
locoengr Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Very nice work Steve! One can see the patience and skill involved in this build. Like the little thing of getting the color right for the year of the truck. Once again, very nice!! Bruce
novadose71 Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 (edited) WOW!!!! That is super cool. Very nice job on all the details, I really like the interior. I noticed you have it in your box art section, please tell us it's going to be a complete kit. Man, that would be sweet. Anyway, great build so far. Edited December 12, 2007 by novadose71
SteveG Posted December 13, 2007 Author Posted December 13, 2007 Thanks for your comments, the cab and chassis was built from a combination of kits including the Super Stones issue and the current M-K F350 kit. The one ton tires and wheels are Modelhaus. The Camper portion is box stock, I've only added paint and foil. The original plan was for this model to be Box Art for a second release of the M-K Racer's Wedge and Open Road Camper kit. Dave requested it be on the Ford Pickup chassis. If I recall, offering both of the kits as a package was discussed but dropped for several reasons including the need to make some major modifications to the Ford Pickup frame to make it fit the Camper. Do to other commitments I had, and the deadline RC2 set for the box art to be ready, Dave had to use some previously used artwork for the box. So this project is strickly for my own enjoyment. BTW, If someone has a set of the front bumper guards from one of the earlier issue 70's Ford Pickup trucks that they aren't going to use let me know. They would be a nice finishing touch for this one. Steve
Jzaaijer Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Awesome! I like the color choices. I just bought this kit. Can't wait to start with it.
signguy2108 Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Put the boat behind it and we're off to the lake! Nice.
Gluhead Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Hey Steve! I see you're still knockin' them out of the park. Looks great!
cobraman Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Very nice job. I love the way you finished the interior.
01blueedge Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 good job on this one i like the color on the truck and the addition of the camper
gui_tarzan Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Steve, did you raise the top edge of the windshield to make it correct? It looks like it in your pics. I just noticed it on mine, I made a few resin copies of the kit several years ago and I just noticed it so I have to fix it and re-cast the cab.
Dominik Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 oh, very old thread - thanks Jeroen for push it up! Very nice camper. Like the Ford and his colors!
72inlawcamper Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 (edited) I know this is an old thread, but my in laws have a camper that looks almost exactly like this and I’d love to get them a model. Is this kit for sale or how do I get something like it? Edited June 22, 2022 by 72inlawcamper 1
stavanzer Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 You want this MPC Open Road Camper & the recent Round2 Firestone F350 Pickup, and a Whole Lot of building skills! https://www.spotlighthobbies.com/amtspedoproc.html 1
Chariots of Fire Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 Great work, Steve! The camper interior is really special. All the right period stuff! (The cab ain't bad either?)! 1

That Open Road camper comes up on eBay so you may find there, also check with some of the vintage kit sellers. The wheels can be had from Modelhaus Tires. 1

Where are these vintage kit sellers? eBay? And where would I find the truck in Coca Cola trim or racers wedge kit? thanks

You could check with The Modelroundup and see if they have the kits you are looking for.
TooOld Posted July 7, 2022 Posted July 7, 2022 Now that's some excellent work on the interior , very realistic ! And I really like that Ginger Bronze Poly paint !
