DonW Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Is this the first since Dan Gurney's lovely '66 Gurney-Weslake?
Speedfreak Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Cool. It would be nice to see an American team for sure.
2000-cvpi Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Cool. It would be nice to see an American team for sure. I agree. Maybe it would spark some interest in F1 racing here.
wisdonm Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Penske ran a F-1 team from '74-'77, the Vels Parnelli Jones team ran F-1 from '74-'76, and there was a failed team called US F1 Team that was supposed to race the 2010 season.
JM485 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Penske ran a F-1 team from '74-'77, the Vels Parnelli Jones team ran F-1 from '74-'76, and there was a failed team called US F1 Team that was supposed to race the 2010 season. I was wondering about that, what happened? I was really looking forward to seeing them race.
Racephoto1 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Haas is going to find out real quick how much money he REALLY has. If he doesn't have at least $50 million to start with, he won't have enough.
Cato Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Haas is going to find out real quick how much money he REALLY has. If he doesn't have at least $50 million to start with, he won't have enough. Actually, Bernie will find out and let him know. So he can line his pockets better.
afx Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 Let just hope Haas makes a better effort (if he is approved) than the feable attempt from a few years ago. Remember this:
DavidChampagne Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I read on a F1 site that they are looking at putting a $200 million cap on F1 teams in the coming years. No real details on what that would include. Just that one statement. When you think about all the workers and engineers that build the car, driver salaries, all the members of the team that have to go to the races, hotels and meals and airline tickets and all the hospitality areas--sounds like there will be serious cuts someplace.Would be great to see an American team in there.
Modelmartin Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I am reading this at work while my HAAS mill is running. He's got the dough!!
cartpix Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Haas is going to find out real quick how much money he REALLY has. If he doesn't have at least $50 million to start with, he won't have enough. I think he has been around racing, long enough, to know you don't go racing, on the professional level, with your own money.
afx Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 Whats that old saying: The best way to make a small fortune in racing is to start with a large one.
sjordan2 Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 (edited) During today's Bahrain Grand Prix trials, they said that Ecclestone has blessed the Haas proposal and it's going forward. (I don't know if Stewart-Haas co-owner Tony Stewart is part of the deal or if it's just Haas.) Edited April 4, 2014 by sjordan2

DavidChampagne Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Did you notice the comment: A BILLION dollars would last about 4 years.
sjordan2 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 In any case, I've been enjoying the reset with new F1 cars. I was getting tired of the Sebastian Vettel Show.
vypurr59 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Rumors are that Kurt Busch would be a pilot of the F-1 car
afx Posted April 5, 2014 Author Posted April 5, 2014 Rumors are that Kurt Busch would be a pilot of the F-1 car Het has no road-racing or open wheel experience and hes going to step into an F1 car when he's nearing 40 - not happening.
Joe Handley Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Be interesting to see Gordon in a F1 car, wasn't he pulling lap times in par with their drivers when he drove Montoya's car some years back?
vypurr59 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 (edited) Het has no road-racing or open wheel experience and hes going to step into an F1 car when he's nearing 40 - not happening. He has been racing under Andretti Racing, and is piloting a car at Indy Memorial Day, then flying to Charlotte to race Nascar that evening. He has raced road course during 24 hours at Daytona. He was raised on racing open wheel carts. Edited April 5, 2014 by vypurr59

vwdave92 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Did you notice the comment: A BILLION dollars would last about 4 years. The NY Yankees payroll is over $225M this year. They are going to burn through a BILLION in 4 years too. Keep in mind that is JUST PAYROLL for the Yanks. I'm guessing running an F1 team and running the Yanks is about the same kinda cash.
Danno Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 HUGE payrolls . . . HUGE investments . . . HUGE spending . . . and then they wonder why HUGE ticket costs have driven away a large percentage of fans . . . those people who support the sports but don't have HUGE incomes.
