My current employer wasn't too happy to hear the news this morning, but when they heard where I was going & what I was doing they agreed it was "the job for me". Unfortunately, a nice head cold is starting to brew….and I physically feel terrible. I'm getting a headache reading this while I'm typing.

Hopefully I'll get it out of my system before my start date.

John a good friend of mine did this. He loves the work. He has worked on a few cool cars over the years. From an Auburn boat tail speedster (V12 ) that has run at the dry lakes in Cali to the 20 Millionth Ford, at the first shop . You just never know what was going to be there when you stopped in for a visit.

I almost forgot to say Congrats and enjoy the ride.

John, sorry to hear that you're sick but keep after it and you'll be fine soon. I started a new job in '04 with bronchitis and a week later went to Vegas for a few days. It worked out and I was able to keep that job 'til it ran out.

Dang that is sad about the head cold but to work at a shop like that doing custom work that is cool

Just hope they don't get a TV deal then all the good stuff goes to heck with the drama

But good luck again

I think your head cold may just be subconsious nerves mate .

Yes…. Sub-consciously I'm ready to throw-up, but the head cold is almost gone. Now my Wife is sick.

But the job….this is going to be a whole `nuther story! I am so excited I really should shut up……. ;)

My Wife pointed out a conversation my employer was having with a friend of his about that being "in the works…" on their Facebook page. I hate almost ALL those type of shows. Wouldn't THAT be the irony with this job!

Well done John

I can empathise with you as I just got a contract testing software at BMW GB head office! Given my passion for BMW, I'm sort of in shock - I interviewed and was offered the job on Friday and I start tomorrow! Sadly I have to stay near the site during the week as it's too far to commute, not ideal but better than not having a contract at all...

Good luck, -Don.

PS I must say how you all on the forum have helped keep me sane during the dark times when I thought I'd never land another contract!

Well, tomorrow is my last day. Several of my co-workers are kind of cool towards me, but it's just that I'm not only getting out of the dealership grind, but on MY terms! Kind of like a shelter animal going home with someone with no kids and a big yard.

I am intimidated a bit looking at the work coming out of that shop, but I know I can do it.

Congratulations!!! Sounds like you hit a sweet-spot as far as a job too. I hope everything works out for everyone.

I moved my tool chest yesterday and today I set everything up for Monday morning. I met most of the crew and the same question I was asked was "Are you a Car Guy"? And everyone is showing me pictures of their Camaro's & a `33 Plymouth street rod and I'm showing them the `Cuda. Then I find out 2 of the guys play guitar and one drums. I mentioned I play Bass…..I think we have a band. And did I mention there are model cars and die-casts in my new Bosses office on shelves and counters?

My first two jobs I've been assigned is installing a new harness in a mid-70's Corvette and changing the steering column and gauges in a `36 Ford street rod. The pace is so relaxed compared to the dealership. And the absolutely BEST PART?!?!?!?!? They play rock-n-roll in the various depts. No babble-rhymes and hand clapping…. No robots mating over synths…. no pedal steel guitars….. no Boots-n-Pants. Just rock and roll.

I've died and gone to heaven…...

Friday: "Pay? You thought we were gonna pay you? We're all retired and just do this for fun."

Just kidding John. This sounds seriously fun and a great place to work.

Here's a few quick phone pictures from this morning. The Blue `36 behind my tool chest is getting the new steering column & gauges.

In the background behind the Corvette chassis is the Red `79 `Vette that needs a harness after a fire.

This is just one of nine shops the same size as the one pictured above. Looking at the pictures, to the right out of the picture frame is a full mandrel exhaust bender. In another room there was this project going together.

`56 Chevy Pro Touring

I have to find out what's spinning THESE monsters…… Usually they keep all the parts with the shell. These were next the the about `56…… :o

Yeah…. I'll be sharing some of the toys at work. We have a freshly restored `70 `Cuda 440-6 Bbl. genuine V-code, numbers matching car in Yellow. The then there's the pro-street `62 Falcon, or the numerous mid-60's Mustangs everywhere, or the Z11 `69 Camaro Pace Car that just came in.

Yeah…. I'll be sharing…. B)

John, I really feel bad for you in this new place. It sounds like you'll hate it, and be absolutely bored to tears..!!! Do you think that the Infiniti dealership would be willing to take you back...??? Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha :D

What Infiniti dealer? I haven't pulled a paycheck yet from this place and I'm happier already…..

…. is that a good portion of our shops repair work is other shops mistakes, especially when it comes to wiring.

Here's a `79 Vette that was converted to a one-wire alternator system, done for only the reasons decided in the customers mind. And here's the resulting harness melt-down from another shop.

Pretty nice car. The owner is nuts in love with it and has given us carte-blanch to "make it right".

Bless his soul….. B)

Just dealing with simple R/C electronics can give me head aches, that and the Charger look to be head implosion territory...........I'll try not to show those to a friend of mine that is an automotive electrical wiz.

Put it back to the three wire, the way it should be, and the charging system will be MUCH happier...

Mark

We already told the customer that. And the Charger I'm re-wiring we're starting with a fresh Painless kit, as the original Painless kit was hacked to the point of being useless…..

Like I posted in the Mutant Mopar popst, lots retired drag cars being converted to "street" use. Lotsa re-wire jobs in my future…… BUT: My Boss charges accordingly. That allows me the luxury of doing an involved job at a more relaxed pace without the constant "are you done yet!?!?!" mentality of a new car dealership. I feel like I'm slacking-off and yet my Boss is very happy with my work so far. It's going to be a hard re-adjustment for me…..

gotta love fixing prior 'hack jobs'. I work in a chevy dealership and in the 'good weather' I get the 'old cars' when they come in. it's amazing how messed up some things are after 30-50 years of improper repairs, lol.

I'd love to get a job where I could adjust to not working flat-rate B)
