Harry P. Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 One of my all-time favorite songs is Neil Young's "Heart of Gold." I like to surf youtube for cover versions of songs I like... I've found some amazing cover versions, everything from the ridiculous to the sublime. This one falls somewhere in between. Definitely over the top, weird, crazy, etc. I mean, the white robes and all... not quite sure what to make of this. It's a very unique version, but in an odd way, I like it!
MsDano85gt Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I beleive Harry Neil young would say " Keep on rockin in the free world" or in the back of my mind as i'm listening to that tune my Brainwaves playback..... " keep on buildin those model cars....."
slantasaurus Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Neil would probably say...."Did the check clear?"
Joe Handley Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Interesting..............but is anybody wondering what cult they're with?
slusher Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I was in wonder of the robes but then you have to admit that most all rock stars are strange...
Harry P. Posted March 13, 2014 Author Posted March 13, 2014 Another weird yet good cover. Can't explain the pineapple, though...
Erik Smith Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I saw Neil in concert at the Gorge is Washington state - awesome. Rained the whole time (outdoor venue) but they played through it all. One of my favorite cover albums is a compilation titled "This Notes for You Too: Tribute to Neil Young 1999". Most of his popular stuff plus a few b side songs.
Erik Smith Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 (edited) Just watched the Polyphonic cover - man, that is a fantastic job! Talented bunch! I like that a lot. Edited March 13, 2014 by Erik Smith
southpier Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 check out Charles Bradley & the Menahan Street Band on Youtube
rmvw guy Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Neat to see the insturmentation. I would rather see Neil Young perform it. One of my favorites was the one he sings "We live in a trailer at the edge of town," ( we did at the time,) can't remember the name of the song but, a good sing along. He must have felt he was at an all-time low during that period.

Danno Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Polyphonic Spree ~ I've seen/heard a lot worse. The two guys ~ Not bad. The pineapple . . . well, I'm surprised a music connoisseur such as yourself, Harry, didn't recognize it . . . it is a . . . Hawaiian Symbol Cymbal! [insert Rim Shot here]
Kris Morgan Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Not bad. I do suspect they are a cult that wants to save me though.
tbill Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 (edited) .............he came dancin' across the water....... Edited March 14, 2014 by tbill
peter31a Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 There was a duo in a small town here in Ontario know for taking popular song and turning them into parody, mostly political but some other. Their take on this song? "Keeps me searching for a manifold…….And I'm getting cold…" Describes their search through junk yards looking for a manifold for their car.

I'm still not quite sure if the white robe gang was doing a parody or a serious cover!
sjordan2 Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" concert on DVD, at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, is superb. With Emmylou Harris on backup, directed by Jonathan Demme. Great bonus material. I play it a few times a year.
Mike_G Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 .............he came dancin' across the water....... That song was banned in Spain.

I saw him at the MN State Fair...with a my good friend Dave...Dave left the earth to soon. Neil Young always reminds of Dave...rock on Dave...miss you.
Harry P. Posted March 19, 2014 Author Posted March 19, 2014 I hope the lead singer(?)'s name is Harry. Nope. Tim DeLaughter. I assume he pronounces it "de-law-ter," but after seeing them in their getups, I'd say "de-laff-ter" is more appropriate!
