slusher Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I have seen this before on a smaller number of cars and have no idea why they would not sell them...
Bennyg Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Ridiculous. People collect and hang onto stuff that they will never get to. Some of that gear would be beyond repair unfortunately. Ben
jas1957 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I know two people that have similar "collections". I totally don't understand what the purpose is, if they were activly building/repairing/swaping that's one thing. But to just let cars & parts sit & rot away makes no sense. I look at it all, shake my head and walk away. Maybe it's the guy version of the crazy cat lady.
Jantrix Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Some people just see things as "their collection", regardless of the fact that it is literally rotting before their eyes. Watch American Pickers and you can really see that mentality at work. They are sitting on hundreds of thousands of dollars in whatever, but unable to part with it because it was owned by dear old dad. Really kinda sad.
pharoah Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 Unfortunately, people like this family, started doing this years ago (well duh) They got them for little or nothing. They figure that if they hang on to them long enough, the cars will be worth a lot of money and be their retirement. Fast forward 20 -30 years and these once fairly nice cars are now sinking in to mother earth. This is the part that I really don't get. They don't seem to notice! It's like the cars still look the same to them. And yet they still won't sell them. Those Corvettes might look good, but who knows what the frame is like. And I've seen what happens to a convertible once the top starts leaking. it ain't pretty.. End of rant..

johnbuzzed Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Yeah, it's sad to see something like this. But, none of us know how the owner got all those cars, or why, or what he or she intends to do with them. It's like walking into a basement that's jammed floor-to-ceiling with thousands of unbuilt kits- what's the point or purpose? It might not make a lot of sense to many people but if the owner is happy, and there are no actual, physical problems resulting from such a "collection", so be it. I sometimes wonder what will really become of my meager "collection" of 100+ unbuilt kits. Sure, I have plans for just about all of them, and I know I will buy more, but will I ever get the chance to build them all? I really, really want and intend to- at least, right now I do- but who knows what little twists and turns show up in that nice, smooth road called life and how each of us will deal with them. And remember- not all people are as concerned with the almighty dollar as others might be.
Erik Smith Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Really, no different than a 500+ model collection (besides the fact models don't rust away...) It's a perception problem - you see it with book people, car people, model people...there is some link to human behavior.
ChrisBcritter Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 This is just sad... What, the find or the eight pages (so far) of shrieking?
Rob Hall Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I couldn't imagine collecting cars without proper garage space. Having them outdoors rotting is a junkyard of sorts..
martinfan5 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Cant really say those are something to get sad over in my opinion, the only thing that stood out was the Stingray, other then that, I just see a junk yard
martinfan5 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Then you didnt look very well. Just glancing there were a number of old Studebakers. Well, those are most definitely junk , but that is why I said in my opinion
kruleworld Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Really, no different than a 500+ model collection Yeah, but we don't leave it outside or in a place where the boxes are disintegrating. Most of these horders do nothing with them ever. Jantrix mentioned american pickers, and they often say 'that thing is still sitting in the exact same place as when were were last here'.
