Harry P. Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Well, it looks like spring has finally sprung, which means time to get at that long list of household chores I've been putting off. A lot of landscape work, some minor home maintenance stuff, cleaning out the garage, and general spring cleaning overall. Which means my weekends will be taken over with homeowner type chores... no time to build anymore... not for the foreseeable future, at least. I packed up all the model stuff–took me almost a whole day, so chances are it's not coming back out until the fall, when I can devote more time to it. For now, it's homeowner chores. Just today I replaced all the broken Malibu lights along the front walk, and installed a new master bath sink and faucet. A good day's work... but that's just the tip of the iceberg! Happy spring!
pharoah Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 That's too bad Harry. You don't have a full-time work bench where you can leave the stuff out?
High octane Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Have fun Harry as I'll be buildin' year 'round and hopefully get some kits built. Yes, I'll also be doin' the outside chores as well.
Harry P. Posted April 6, 2014 Author Posted April 6, 2014 That's too bad Harry. You don't have a full-time work bench where you can leave the stuff out? No, my "workbench" is the dining room table. Leaving all that stuff out is just too tempting... I'd rather build models than clean gutters... so putting it all away tends to make me focus on the boring but necessary homeowner chores. If I left it all out, I'd never get any house stuff done!
Modelmartin Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 My basement is so cold that I get more done down there in the summer despite all the yard/house work and cycling activities that happen at the same time. Hopefully my attempts at more insulation and heating vents down there will pay off next winter.
Harry P. Posted April 6, 2014 Author Posted April 6, 2014 My basement is so cold that I get more done down there in the summer despite all the yard/house work and cycling activities... There's another thing I keep putting off. I have not ridden my bike in literally several years. It's way past time to get back on the thing and put some miles on it. I used to bike pretty good... 20-30 miles a ride, but haven't done it for years. Time to get back on the horse. It's a real nice Trek 21 speed... too nice a bike to just sit gathering dust in the garage.
Austin T Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Don't worry Harry, based on this years winter around mid May you should get about a foot and a half of snow.
Harry P. Posted April 6, 2014 Author Posted April 6, 2014 Don't worry Harry, based on this years winter around mid May you should get about a foot and a half of snow. That's what scares me... that it still might snow!
Craig Irwin Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I have not ridden my bike in literally several years. I haven't ridden a bike since I found out some of them have motors on them!
Modlbldr Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Although I look forward to Spring and Summer to be able to work a bit more comfortably in my shop (no real good heat source) and finally get some painting done on my builds I have quite a bit of chores planned for me too. I also just got a call from an elder in our congregation and we agreed that I would prepare a 30 minute talk to give on May 18. Just over a month away!!! Looks like I won't be spending as much time focused on my model building over the next few weeks as I had planned. Too bad I have shirked this off for the last year. Later-
Cato Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 "Malibu lights"??? You live in Chicago!! Look we all have that carp to do but we don't pack-up for the season! You'll do anything to get out of restarting that Rolls...........
Harry P. Posted April 6, 2014 Author Posted April 6, 2014 "Malibu lights"??? You live in Chicago!! Yeah, but that's what they're called. I have the box!
Cato Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Yeah, but that's what they're called. I have the box! And I'll bet it says 'Made in China' on the bottom... They should be called 'China lights'
Harry P. Posted April 7, 2014 Author Posted April 7, 2014 And I'll bet it says 'Made in China' on the bottom... They should be called 'China lights' But what isn't made in China these days?
tbill Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 But what isn't made in China these days? apparently the fella who has to do all the outside chores you have lined up
Erik Smith Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Same for me... Work starts to get busy this time of year and there is soooo much to do with nice weather - good and bad. I got the bikes out a couple weeks ago, the running shoes are getting some miles, and the rake was in use today.

You did all that in a day ? Pace yourself the chores will still be there tomorrow. : )
Silver Foxx Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I will look forward to when you get back building again , I love your work .
sjordan2 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Take those brass nails and make a diamond-tufted bicycle seat.
Lunajammer Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 That's pretty much my drill too Harry. For me, modeling is sort of a season. A season when there's little more to do than clear snow, earn a living and hibernate through dark and chill. Summer is short and too filled with sunshine, chores, family passing through, motorcycling, fire pits and more chores. Clearing the bench removes the temptations which take me away from other obligations, even if those obligations are to enjoy a different kind of fun.

charlie8575 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I block time. When working (entirely too little lately,) that comes first. Then... Stuff at home to try and get this horror show straightened out (my goal is to have 2/3-3/4 of it done by fall, no matter how much my parents fight me along the way.) Job search (usually while taking a break from the house.) A walk when I can- not too hot/humid and light traffic. Everything else- car shows, little trips, maybe a date or two (HA!), and anything else that's enjoyable. And I still build as much as possible. I'm working out how to rig a paint-booth now so I can take advantage of the air conditioner in the house and actually get some painting done. Charlie Larkin
High octane Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 You build models on the dining room table Harry? I used to do that back in the 70's, and I've also put newspapers on the bed and did spray painting over it as well. I've been building models for many years and never had a spray booth, I don't use my air-brushes and compressor, and I don't have a dehydrator either. Yet I still manage to crank out a few kits every year. Life is good!
Scott Colmer Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I get what you mean, Harry. I have a list of house stuff waiting for me too. Just a few more commitments to finish up. Enjoy the time off. I lurked on many of your builds.... errr modeling building threads. Thanks for binging us along and showing me, at least, the fun that can be found in the older subjects. Your work is top drawer. Scott
slusher Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 When I worked I put up all my model stuff until fall with all the overtime and yard work to do....So I kind of know what its like...
