Mr Stock Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Had a lot of fun with this old kit, I have the newer repop Nascar version in tmy stash so I thought Id build this older one, the detail is fantastic for a kit that has its origins nearly 50 years ago !, its painted a close shade to Champagne beige (as close as I can get from a rattle can!), totally stock apart from the plug wires. Really enjoyable build.
StevenGuthmiller Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Very nice Gary! I agree. This '65 Ford was probably one of the most detailed kits from that period. The color is really nice! Nice departure from the "usuals". Steve
TooOld Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Great looking '65 Galaxie ! Big , square , and beautiful . Nice work !
impcon Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 That's a really sweet build if ever there was one! I really do like that colour on thise cars too. I had a black one years ago with a red interior and it sure was a pretty car. Your choice of colour is a nice swing away from the usual red and white and black versions. Those were actually a very good car aside from the fact that frame rust got a lot of them and they ended their service lives prematurely. The interior compartment on the galaxies was like sitting in an auditorium.. they were incredibly spacious and nicely designed. They were and still are one of the most under appreciated really nice cars that Ford ever made. Many of them became engine donor cars for lighter makes and models as those 390's were good performers. Yeah - a really nice build that I'd sure be proud to have on my shelf and would sit front and center for sure!! AAAAA++++
Mr Stock Posted April 20, 2014 Author Posted April 20, 2014 (edited) Thanks for all the great comments guy's, I do like to have a break from the norm every now and again color wise, and ill research the color chips for that year and pick one that you don't see often. Just like in my Avatar the 68 Corvette in Bronze rater than red/yellow/blue. But I still like those common colors too, I just paint whatever color takes my fancy at the time. Ive never seen one of these Galaxies in the flesh, there are a few over here in the UK but its still a very rare sight. Already looking forward to building the Fred Lorenzen version ...but that's way down the "to do list". Edited April 20, 2014 by Mr Stock
Bill Eh? Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Looks fantastic Gary. Do you have any shots of the interior?
Rob Hall Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Sharp build..that color looks like the color AMT did some of their promos in in that era..
Lovefordgalaxie Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 You got really lucky with the color as it is very close to factory color Prairie Bronze. I built one in that color last year. I used paint mixed from the original Ford color catalog, and it really looks very close to your's. Take a look: https://www.flickr.com/photos/lovefordgalaxie/sets/72157635035657964/ Drive a Galaxie every day, and think they are really great cars. The kind of car you can always trust.

Tulio that is a beautiful Galaxie I wish I could get my paint that shiny, but yes the color was a lucky choice its actually a Vauxhall UK color, actually looking at your photos I can see a couple of things I didn't do quite right, like the chrome trim around the base of the roof at the rear and the black highlight in the tail lights. I will correct those.
Mr Stock Posted April 21, 2014 Author Posted April 21, 2014 Looks fantastic Gary. Do you have any shots of the interior? Here you go Bill , Im not sure how accurate a color it is but I wanted it to contrast with the exterior paint.
