bbowser Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I've lately shifted gears a bit and taken to the big cars of the '30s. I've found a few at reasonable prices on eBay and begun building. This is one I finished last night. An MPC kit, the only thing I would do differently is remove the "working steering" feature that moves the wheels via the steering wheel. The parts are too spindly and bind up too easily for this to work well. A big straight 8 engine and lots of chrome make for a striking vehicle, I think. Comments welcome, thanks for looking!
TooOld Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Very striking Bruce ! Great colors and a very nice job on a great kit ! I remember building these kits as a kid and the steering is pretty iffy at best . Not sure why they did it but it was a nice attempt at adding more detail .
rustybill1960 Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Bruce your right, there is just something about these Big Beauties. I have the MPC Gangsters '32 Chrysler Roadster to build, along with a few others, I am looking for the Duessenburg Town Car. I hope my builds turn out as nice as yours. Thank You for sharing Later Russ
gtx6970 Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I like it . and same here, I have several of the big cars for the 30's to do ( someday )
sjordan2 Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Looks great! However, I would have flattened the paint on the convertible top to make it look more like canvas wtih less shine, and I think the wheels could use a wash for a little more definition. Otherwise, outstanding, and the chrome trim is terrific.
Modelmartin Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 The full classic cars (as defined by Classic Car Club of America) are the most spectacular cars built! Congrats on a nice job of a cool subject.
Harry P. Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I agree with Skip that the roof is too shiny. And what happened to the front right side horn?
bbowser Posted April 27, 2014 Author Posted April 27, 2014 I used satin on the roof and interior but I guess it's a little too shiny? The Krystal Kleer wasn't quite dry yet I guess, I need to fix that horn! Thanks for all the comments!
slusher Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Great looking build Bruce, I love seeing these built..
mnwildpunk Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Bruce fantastic job like others have said there is something about these big beautiful cars. Well I am a Chrysler fan but regardless it is wonderfully done
realgone58 Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Very very nice! I have a few of these old '30's classics myself.
robertw Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Well done. These classics of the past can be a treat to build, physically big enough to provide for easy extra detailing, colourful and a nice change of pace from what we mostly build. I built an Italeri '33 Chrysler Imperial a few year ago and enjoyed it so much that I've been picking up the odd Monogram big cars since then. I have the Monogram '41 Lincoln on the workbench right now and hope to do a few more of these by gone era classics in the years ahead.
