Has anyone seen the new line of VWs and MINI COOPERS? Both have become less round, more square. The new VW beetle looks more like a roach now. Flattened top. The Mini Cooper convertible now has this hard top with a reverse visor thing in the back, looks like a mullet. I am assuming this is what happens when you have the same three stoned car designers whose imaginations have been choked with aerodynamic dreams and safety regulations, and all that toad-licking they've been doing in the ever-drying pool of car manufacturers.

It's rather sad when you look at the Mercedes, Jaguar, Volvo and they all have that mangy sleep look with all the broken angles that don't really lead the eye anywhere. Then again, I think they are preparing for the YUGOTOPIAN SOCIETY. The same car without a driver that serves the new TACO BELL MIERDITAS (a healthy combination of cardboard gristle, skunkox oil, and bootsole all rolled in a fried crispy piece of butcher paper!)

The only car I would still buy brand spanking new would be my father's 1965 Dodge Dart!

LOL you are so right! Design by committee, aerodynamics and mileage first, ease and economy of manufacture second, aesthetics last.

I kinda like the new "squashed" bug's look. It looks a little more hunkered down and muscular. Especially with the steel wheels and hub caps. The original "new" Beetle was, well…. HAS a rather "feminine" look to it. A bit too "cute" maybe would be a better description.

But yes, I agree. The new Mini coupe is odd looking. I read somewhere that the styling was to mimic the backwards ball cap look we all embrace.

LOL! I can almost hear the designers saying that. Wear your baseball hat to a game with the sun on your face and then put your hand up as a visor. Priceless.

Don't know about the others, but I do know that the Beetle was redesigned to try and make it look more muscular, to try and draw more male buyers... that's why the lowered, longer look. I think it looks pretty cool, actually. B)

Nope, I don't like it. If they want it to make it a bit more muscle oriented all they had to do was make it more HEMI CUDA-ESQUE. LOL.:lol::lol:

And I would not pay the 25-28 thousand dollars they'd ask for it. I'd buy a ROAD KING instead.

Entirely practical choice for picking up two kids from the game and getting groceries on the way home.

Just trending

Foe example Mustang , Mustang is my kinda a car but in the years 74 thru 84 I thought they looked small and cheap. I 86 the started to look better,In 2006 I loved the retro/modern look but in 2010 they started messing with the back and now for 215 they are totally out of concept trending towards the European road race look

I think overall the new-new beetle looks a lot more like the original. The earlier models were too rounded.

I have to agree, the overall shape is more like the originals, but also looks like one that has seen some customizing too.

I like the new look personally. Still screams Mustang more than the Fox bodies did, yet isn't the insult to the name that the II's were.

The look is better than the Fox bodies and says Mustang but I trend more to something reminiscent to the 69/70 style

The MINI is becoming so large lately that BMW/MINI should start calling it the MAXI. I'm not sold on the design of the New Beetle, it does sort of harken back to some of the early Porsche designs though.

Well, this is going to be a 2015, retro is neat, but it's time to move forward.

Lol, that is true, it does seem to be about 5/4 to 4/3 the size of the originals, and the Countryman CUV sure doesn't help that any. You are right on the Porsche like traits on the New, New Beetle, some of it could be that the huge tail lights that are more modern Porsche looking.

Its my opinion that people dismiss new cars without every actually looking at them because they do not want to see anything positive in them.

Some people. ;)

I think the latest Beetle is very cool. :D And as much of a fan of retro styling as I am, I love, love, love the 2015 Mustang. They got everything right on that one... fresh new look but still immediately recognizable as a Mustang. B)

And I think the Tesla is a fantastic looking car.

I have to be honest, I like the new style Beetle, I see a lot of the original styling cues in it, and it even looks better with the dog dish hub caps, and being honest again, at first, I did not care on bit for the 2015 Mustang, but its growing on me, and I might just break down and get the Revell kit.

Tesla's are indeed very nice looking cars.
