Petetrucker07 Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Today was the first saftey meeting at my company. It's suppose to be a 5 hour deal and it ended up only 2 hours. I'm glad half my Saturday wasn't spent at work watching those god awful safety videos, I know they're for a reason but still boring. Now I can get some bench time and maybe start on my Cannonball entry.
High octane Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 That I've been sober for nine years on this date.
Deano Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 I mentioned yesterday that we rescued a cat from the SPCA. In case anyone was wondering, here's Pierre, posing with Mrs. Corvair Jim (my beautiful Rose, someone that I'm thankful for EVERY day!) last night - I hadn't been able to upload the pic to Photobucket when I made the post: (Sorry about the lousy cell phone pic - She wanted to text the photo to our daughter right away!) Aw ... he's a cutie!
Danno Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 That I've been sober for nine years on this date. Good for you, Nick!! Congrats. THAT's an accomplishment to be proud of.

CorvairJim Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 They may not have had a choice. The cat's previous family could have lost their home, and their ability to care for the cat. They could have become too ill to care for the cat. The previous owner may have passed away, and the next of kin may not have had the ability to care for the cat. Personally, I'm glad the cat was brought to a shelter to have a chance to be adopted by kind folks like you, and not abandoned on the street the way some people will do. What pleased me today? Strangely enough, the bad weather in New York. In my household, weekend mornings tend to be almost as hectic as weekdays, what with the errands, appointments and the kids' activities. This morning, the kids' activities were cancelled, and none of the errands seemed important enough to have to deal with the Ken Block wannabes that think they can drive like rally drivers when there is a layer of ice all over the roads. We all stayed in this morning, everybody had a nice hot cup of coffee or tea, and I got to make pancakes for the family, something I rarely get to do these days. The info we received when we adopted Pierre was that the owner, a high school boy, came from a single-parent home. He went away to college and couldn't take him, and his mom didn't want the hassle. So yes, there was an aspect of misfortune, but mom could have been more understanding about her son's pet. Or junior could have been more proactive in finding someone else to care for the cat. Whatever the case, we are certainly thankful that Pierre was turned in to the SPCA instead of being cut loose onto the street so that we could give him his "Forever Home". Our daughter adopted out her cat when she moved away because my wife, her stepmom, is allergic to cats. Rose has to take several prescriptions already, so Sarah didn't want to make her continue the allergy meds in adition to those. When that arrangement fell through, we brought "Aggie" back to our home. Allergy or not (OTC allergy meds are great!), that was one of the best decisions we ever made. Aggie was a joy to have back in our lives for her final 7 or so years. We grew to miss having a pet more and more in the years since Aggie passed away, so we decided that it was time to do something about it. It's great to be able to just take a lazy day enjoying your family like you could today. Being empty-nesters, we miss those times. Enjoy the heck out of them while you can!
CorvairJim Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 That I've been sober for nine years on this date. THANK YOU, LORD!!!
High octane Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Yes Jim I have thanked the Lord for giving me the strength to do so.

I try to send SPCA something once in a while. I lost my cat several years ago and have been thinking of adopting one. I have adopted several strays in my life. I am a cat person. I have one outside now someone dumped off and was starved. His ears bleeding and infected. After a few vet visits and food, he is still here. He is about 9 years old and great pet...

Hey Jim, I didn't know you already had information on Pierre's background. I'm sorry for making assumptions, and I'm sorry for giving any offense. We have 3 cats in my home. The oldest one was adopted from a shelter, and we took in the middle one from a family friend when they had to move and couldn't accommodate him in their new place. The newest one may have either run away from her previous home, or been abandoned. My wife found him outside our daughter's school, coming up to people and rubbing up on their legs, acting like a domesticated cat and not a feral cat. We took in the cat while the school put up posters in the neighborhood. No one ever came forward looking for the cat, so if she wasn't abandoned, she must have run from a different neighborhood. She has now become a full-time member of our household. It's great to be able to just take a lazy day enjoying your family like you could today. Being empty-nesters, we miss those times. Enjoy the heck out of them while you can! Thanks, Jim. I plan on it.
Roadrunner Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 This pleased me immensely; my receiving this Dragon kit that was gifted to me by a fellow forum member from another site. I'm such a happy pup!
unclescott58 Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 That I've been sober for nine years on this date. Congrats on that. And keep on going. Even when things aren't prefect, it's still better with a clear mind. Scott
Lucas van H Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Company that I wanted to work for called today... Guess who's hired! I now have the privilege to drive people with a disability to a sort of day care (don't know what it's called in English) and assist them with activities! Made my week ?
Tom Geiger Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Congrats Lucas! We call it "Adult Day Care" here in the USA. It's nice that you wish to do this!
Lucas van H Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 (edited) Thanks Tom! I've got a bit of experience on how to do the job. While it's not something that everyone would do, I find it rather rewarding to just have a little chat with the people after I picked them up and help them with the stuff they want to do there. At the last place I worked, I worked with people with similar problems, and I loved to tell some jokes so they've got something to laugh about when we were on the road. Lucas. Tom Geiger Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 What pleases me today? Well, it's snowing like all heck outside and I'm not going out there! Worked from home today and won't be going into the office until Thursday. So I can sit out the snow storm and not have to deal with driving around in the muck!
Rob Hall Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 (edited) Saw the Goodyear blimp over downtown Scottsdale today...stood on top of my office parking garage and snapped a few pics. Probably here for the Super Bowl festivities this week.. Edited January 27, 2015 by Rob Hall
Tom Geiger Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Tom. may we have a photo please ? It's dark out now... will post something tomorrow. It's supposed to snow all over night and through tomorrow too!
High octane Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Please keep the snow by you Tom, as that would please me. Thanks.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Decided to get some painting done tonight!
