I'm working the Prescott Rally that will go this weekend.  I found out that nobody was tasked with putting up the ROAD CLOSED warning signs, and since I'm into signs (when I was a kid, made signs for my Tonka trucks) and have experience littering the landscape with them, and I'm self-retired, I did it.  *Had to* drive over these roads in this remote area, poor truck. ?

I'm amused how they post these miles after you have driven on such a road.  NO WAY!

I'm the starting stage for the rally, it's called First View because when you round this corner, you see Jerome.  It was a narrow gauge railroad, still no guardrails.

I also kicked rocks off the groove through the most iconic curve in rally.

I'm pleased my 56 year old pickup ran great.  I'm also pleased to see government doing something useful, saw this grader today.   It's been so dry, that the surface is like talcum powder in spots.

I was doing my morning school run as always and while picking up the kids, three cars drove by the stop sign that was out. However, the second car in the opposing lane was a local undercover cop car and two officers in it somehow saw what was happening and took action. The cop driving pulled out the cruiser with the lights on to block the three cars and the other cop got out and ordered them to the side of the road. I beeped at them to thank them and they waved back. Seeing the Karma cops on duty made my day.

Got a whole bunch of “homework” done; a 27 question reflection on what and how our future in the particular industry will be like,  a peer editing activity, and about one third of some taxonomy report about 8 random plants. Pretty riveting stuff, but got 2/3 done and may plan on doing a math assignment I have yet to complete, after supper. Today has been raining heavily so I was able to tolerate the work. At least next week is gorgeous and I’ll be out at the “ Fall Field Camp” so I can get away from all the desk krap for a while.

My wife and I baked a big batch of snickerdoodle cookies yesterday morning. The wife decided to be nice and took a plate of them to our upstairs neighbor. This morning the neighbor reciprocated by stopping by with a freshly baked carmel apple pie...

These wonderful ladies are playing hell on my blood sugar, but what a way to go!!!!

All I got is some Gluten free chocolate chip cookies. Didn't realize saw dust was a flavor.

Got all the potential projectiles removed from the yard in anticipation of Hurricane Helene.

It's been raining steadily here since early afternoon, and we're already under a flood watch.

I'm on high ground, but I expect some older trees to come down as the ground gets saturated next few days.

Had a super awesome last day of summer weather; went to visit my great uncle which inevitably lead to a cruise in his 1965 Thunderbird. We then went to the house where that 1969 Chevy Nova four-door was for sale, and it was out in the driveway and so was the owner so we had a full look through it. It is unfortunately too rusty down below so that ship has sailed out the wazoo. We then cruised a popular classic car strip down by the boardwalk then doubled back as a guy in a 1930 Model A was parked in the lot so we pulled up aside him. My great uncle knew the guy but they hadn’t formally met till today. His car was regarded as the nicest model A in town; and I would have to say the same. After then it was a brief stop at Tim Horton’s and back home. Such a nice day holy smokes

EDIT: no pictures so here's a rough sketch of the higlight of the day

Lost power Friday at 1:00am and it came back Saturday at 3:30pm.  No damage from Helene other than little branches all over the property.

I did a RallyCross in Camp Verde on Saturday, Blue Cloud did really well for a 56 year old pickup with a new heartbeat.  They have not posted the results for Sat. and Sunday, but I think middle of the pack is expected.  My daughter attended and shot some video, and got to ride along for a few rounds.  I freeze-framed video, to create this for my mechanic, I will print and stick on foamcore.  He finished wiring the Hella back-up light, and charged only $20.  Hope to do a night event, I think that will be kinda cool.

What pleased me today was the delivery of this - looks like an old camera, but it is not. It's a replacement all-aluminum mkII VW fuel pump housing. While I could have posted a couple of weeks ago about the crack in the plastic factory original fuel pump housing for my '86 VW GTI as an "irk", it really wouldn't qualify. My car is over 38 years old and plastic items like that in harsh environments don't last forever. Reality is what it is, no reason to complain. Probably it was cheaper for VW to make these in plastic than metal, but oh, well.

This one is fabricated by the guys at ProAlloy in the UK to solve the age deterioration problem that lots of mk2 VW owners around the world want to fix. It's nice that this generation of '85-'92 VWs has enough of an enthusiast following that such a solution is available. Not cheap, $495 with overseas shipping, perhaps a quarter of the value of my entire car in its current so-so condition (rust-free, though), and painful because I'm too poor to get any other vehicle replacement. But that's the price to pay to keep such an old daily driver rolling safely. I'll be even more pleased when my car is back to being leak-free.

Spent the weekend at Kansas Speedway and saw 4 very entertaining races over three days.  Th highlight was seeing my favorite driver (Ross Chastain) win the Cup race on Sunday.  image.thumb.jpeg.0ecccc7cb650d14f2acba94877d9c0fc.jpeg

Good to see someone keeping them on the road. I had a '90 gti when i was 19-20, probably the most fun I had with a stock vehicle. Those things just seemed to stick to the road. Slow cars driven fast= good time

My Honda is at the dealer for the third time because of Pack Rats!  Second time they had to drop the gas tank, I was smelling gas (petrol) more than my '68 Chevy.  This time I'm using the car insurance, so it's getting billed for $3,500!   No I don't have a garage, and have been thinking about it.   Oh wait, this isn't the What Irked You Today thread. ?

I got an old-fashioned wood base Rat trap, and a new all plastic what looks like the Jaws Of Death trap.  Both nailed one last night!  So I'm very pleased.  I can post pictures if anyone wants to see. ?
