iamsuperdan Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Remote starter, heated seats, heated steering wheel, and a nuclear meltdown level heater. That's what pleased me this morning.

Not a heated garage, though. 57F today, going to change drastically in 24 hours though.
PierreR89 Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Bought a new truck. Its a -97 Chevrolet Suburban 4x4 and with the 6.5td v8 in it, hopefully i can pick it up this weekend. So now i have 6 vehicles... 3 jeeps, 2 cherokee XJ´s with the 4.0 and one Grand cherokee ZJ with the 5.2 3 chevy diesel trucks, 1 C20 with 6.2 and one K2500 silverado with 6.5td and now the suburban also with the 6.5td. I also realized that everytime i buy a new vehicle it is always larger then the one i had, if its not the body it is the engines that go up in size.. Now i am almost scared of what the next one will be...
Jim N Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 On December 1st, I had an auto accident. A pickup was parked in front of me in a parking lot. The driver dropped the truck in reverse, and without looking, backed up. He did not stop until he was sitting on my hood. The hood, grill, front bumper cover, headlight bucket and even the passenger side front fender had damage. With all of this, I figured the car was a total loss since it's a 99 Lumina. About 2 weeks after the accident, the driver's insurance company tells me they need an estimate. Another week later, they tell me they want their estimator to look at the car. The adjusting company then tells me that they will fix the car, but will pay $600.00 less than the estimate they made me get. This caused a rather interesting discussion between me and the adjuster on how they can be that much lower than the repair shop when both estimates are using junkyard parts, etc. The adjuster finally tells me that he will call the repair shop and talk about the repair with them. A few hours later, I get a call back from the adjuster and he starts telling me how their estimator had built supplementals into their estimate, and after discussing the repair with my shop, they had to go to the high end of the supplementals because there was more damage under the hood and behind the bumper. In my previous employment, I spent more than 20 years as insurance regulator, so this all sounded real strange, but they were going to total the car. I very quickly decided not to argue the finer points about their estimate and how I thought they were trying to low ball me because the claim was now going the way I wanted. Finally, yesterday the check showed up from the insurance company and I can put this to bed. Getting the check pleases me as I did get more out of the total loss than I ever thought I would. We were going to replace the Lumina next year after our youngest graduates from college, but I get the pleasure of making car payments about 18 months sooner than I wanted. My wife says things usually work out the way they do for a reason, so we will see how this one turns out. Any way there is a picture of the damage to my old car and then one of my new car. With the year end sales, we bought the new car before they took possession of the old car and we received the claim payment. It was sad to see the old car ride off on the bed of the tow truck. It was a great old car, and I got rather attached to it after driving her for 18 years.
High octane Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 The good news is that YOU weren't hurt Jim, and maybe it was time to let that old car go anyway. Good luck with your new ride.

Good luck with your new ride. Thanks Nick. My wife made the same points you did, and you are both right. The one thing that really surprised me was how easily the pickup rode up on top of my car. I remember a number of years ago when the safety wonks were making noise about mismatched bumpers and how one car could easily ride under another in a crash. I kind of scoffed at what they were saying at the time, but the truck never went more than about 2 - 3 mph and it just rode up more than a quarter of the hood. Had that collision been at speed, it would have been real bad. If nothing else, I am getting a much safer car, and in the end, that probably makes it all worth it.
russosborne Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 OK, not exactly today, but this week. I had an interview last week for a position at the company I am currently at as a temp, but it would be a direct hire with benefits, etc in another area(repair, currently in production). Got told Monday they really wanted me. Got and accepted the official job offer Tuesday. Start date is hopefully the 22nd, but they are still a bit slow on the background checks and paperwork. They require all that to be done again, even though I just did it in September. Second shift, but one month on days for training. I'm hoping I can show them it won't take that long. I really don't like day shift. Mornings=yuck. Once I go back to second shift, this will be a $6 an hour raise. $4 til then. That should pay for most of the insurance costs I hope. Yes, I will have insurance, medical/dental/vision. And sick time. And vacation. And holiday pay. Oh, and unexpected by me, there is a $4k signing bonus. We are still needing to pay back my family for paying for my mother in laws cremation, so this will take care of that. Hoping for a bit to spend on the Ranchero/models/bass guitar, but even if the bonus is gone the pay raise will allow me to spend some here and there. Wife gets to spend a bit also. Job is a bench tech repairing customer returns. This company is very large in the aviation industry, supplies many aircraft manufacturers. Military as well, but I don't know if I will be doing any of that. Haven't been told what product lines I will be working on yet. Thanks, Russ

Other than a couple days last week, we've been in the single digits or low double at the warmest then when I left for work on the morning of 1/2/18, with a nasty case of bronchitis no less, it was -15°........and of course, my 200 decided to blast me in the face with the frigid air under pressure
crazyjim Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 When i was working in Naperville, IL, I'd call in a vacations day(s) or work from home with that kind of weather.

Me too, the Jeep isn't running right now, as I found a possible fuel leak after putting a fresh battery in it and haven't had the time, weather, or health (still getting over that bronchitis) to investigate where, let alone try and fix.

Get well soon Joe as the swap meet at the Du Page County Fairgrounds in Wheaton is next month. Hope to see you there.
