chunkypeanutbutter Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 So, I was going to go stake a nap around four, and as soon as I was dozing off, the phone rang. Interview on Thursday at 3:00.
High octane Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Good luck with your interview, and I hope that it pans out for you.
Earl Marischal Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Saw the doctor today and, although I still need a blood test and an ECG to sure, he said that basically my heart is fine. I still have to live a 'healthy lifestyle' (decaf coffee, lower salt intake, more veg, etc) but it certainly beats the opposite. steve
cobraman Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I also saw my doctor today. Got a very good report. Blood pressure improved, A1C improved, lost 12 lbs. since my last visit 3 months ago. There's life left in this old boy yet ! : )
Tom Geiger Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Drove my Grand Caravan through the car wash today... yes there was indeed a van under all that dirt!
Chuck Most Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 (edited) I went into work this morning at a quarter to seven, but the clock on the wall at the front of the shop said 6:05 AM. Then it flashed the time... January 1, 1997. I left at 3PM on May15, 2015. I'm thinking my next paycheck will have quite a bit of overtime, seeing as how I worked just a little over 18 years straight in one day. Edited May 13, 2015 by Chuck Most

Ace-Garageguy Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 ... I worked just a little over 18 years straight in one day. Man, you've got my record beat. Most I ever billed in one day in my old flat-rate days was 32 hours...and I thought I was hot stuff.
Rob Hall Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Man, you've got my record beat. Most I ever billed in one day in my old flat-rate days was 32 hours...and I thought I was hot stuff. Ouch...most I ever billed in one week was 96 hours...on one project I was working 80-96 hrs per week for a 6 week stretch..insane, gained 10 pounds (the client catered breakfast, lunch and dinner for the dev team). But at least I was getting a good hourly rate..
wayne swayze Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Went to check out the new "Hobby and Toy" store here in town. The model car section was pretty well stocked, and lots of paint selection as well. The manager said they were still getting things in, as they only opened recently. So while we lost one hobby shop ( in June), we gained another in May. Go figure. Prices seemed typical at "Toy and Hobby", so I may have found a much closer shop!!
Chuck Most Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Wow, 18 years in one day, man you must be beat! The last 18 years didn't suck as much as Tueday's shift, though...
chunkypeanutbutter Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 After a physical and a background check, the job at Goodwill is mine!
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 After a physical and a background check, the job at Goodwill is mine! Good man. More money to spend on cars and models.
Earl Marischal Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 (edited) Driving to and from work in the sunshine with the top down of my Saab 9-3 convertible and signing along to Alice Cooper's Poison, Mearloaf's Bat Out Of Hell and Judas Priest's Breaking The Law VERY LOUD! It's all country lanes so nobody could hear... steve Edited May 15, 2015 by Earl Marischal
slusher Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 After a physical and a background check, the job at Goodwill is mine! Congrats Miles. Going to fave for a car or do you have one....?
Tom Geiger Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 After a physical and a background check, the job at Goodwill is mine! he'll spend every dime he earns in the store!
chunkypeanutbutter Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 (edited) Congrats Miles. Going to fave for a car or do you have one....? Since I prefer doing things myself and not buying things already done, (where's the fun in that?) going to move this orange VW out today and write what I need to do for it. We have all the parts: body panels, engine parts, lights, doors, glass, emblems, etc. in milk crates and in stacks in the garage attic. Edited May 16, 2015 by chunkypeanutbutter
chunkypeanutbutter Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 (edited) he'll spend every dime he earns in the store! Going to have to get my credit union accounts realigned, then I'm going to immediately lop 10% off each paycheck to go into my savings account. That is, unless the guy with the MG Midget for $700 would accept payments... Edited May 16, 2015 by chunkypeanutbutter
High octane Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Miles, what fun is it to have a project car sitting around for years when you could be out ENJOYING your ride???
chunkypeanutbutter Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Miles, what fun is it to have a project car sitting around for years when you could be out ENJOYING your ride??? Ain't gonna be sitting around for much longer! What happened today... Went back to Goodwill and turned in my papers. When I was idly browsing through the toys, I happened to see a body for a '56 Crown Vic! No price, so the girl at the register said she'd just charge 50¢, and with the discount card, it came to the grand sum of 47¢. Not bad! Just a little damaged windshield frame, but workable! On the way back, I suggested to my father to stop at the local recycling center. "Sure, why not?" he said. So, in the woodpile there, I found a big mid-seventies Sears/Roebuck stero console of which I will rob the 8-track deck and speakers from. In the huge pile of appliances, Dad found a washing machine with the same tub as ours. (Ours is a stack, this was just a washer, but the same Kenmore.) Pilfered the gearbox from it since ours was toasted and the tub had to be turned manually. On the way back, he remarked how he was glad I asked to stop in there since it saved us $190. All in all, a good Saturday afternoon.
High octane Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 I know guys who have had and still have project cars sittin' for five or more years. One of them was a body shop that was doin' the restoration. Then there are guys who tear apart their cars only to lose interest in it or run out of money, so now all they have is a "pile of parts" takin' up a lot of space. Cars are meant to be drivin' and that's where the fun is, driving and enjoying a collector car and checkin' out other rides at a car show or cruise night. They ain't NO fun sittin' in the garage.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Well, i guess we just see it different. I'd rather build a car, gain an emotional connection to it. Might as well, since I don't have my license or a permit, haven't even started driver's ed.
