GMP440 Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Did anyone on this board enter the "build the MPC 68" Dodge Coronet R/T" contest, back in the day? Where there a lot of entries? Also, any pics of the Coronets that were entered. All the contestant had to do was just send in a picture of the build. This ad was in an old Model Car Science magazine that was online.
disabled modeler Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Same here.... I have the one my dad built many years ago but it needs a lot of restoration and work from years of poor storage conditions. I believe in his stuff there is a 68 and 69 by MPC....they both need to be reissued as the original kit was.
TooOld Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 (edited) The contest was by Car Model Magazine and yes I entered it ( I was 12 ) . It was won by Jim Keeler and his beautiful " Dodge Fever " ! Here's the cover with Jim's winning model on it . Here's a link to my photobucket album with all of the winners ! http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/RobertSpedding/library/Car%20Model%20Dodge%20Contest Edited August 12, 2014 by TooOld
Tom Geiger Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 (edited) And here's Dodge Fever today in the International Model Car Builders Museum! The funny part was with Jim Keeler winning the MPC contest is that he was a Revell employee at the time! (note that this model may be a clone... I think I just remembered that) Here's Jim Keeler (left) with Bob Paeth, both Revell alumni. That's Gregg Hutchings taking a photo. Edited August 12, 2014 by Tom Geiger
tim boyd Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Check out the fourth place winner. ' Rumor is that he may attempt to restore the car and take it to GSL next spring to display next to the first and second place winners which already reside there.... TIM
Draggon Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 (edited) Thanks for that trip back in time! I remember it but didnt enter. One of them was on ebay a couple years ago, might have been one of these. Edited August 13, 2014 by Draggon

TIM That would be cool if you restored it ! Mine didn't survive very long , it was probably my first attempt at spray painting a model and my photos were absolutely terrible !

What ever happened to that little Timmy feller?!
MADDOG Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Looks like the Illinois had a good showing in that contest.
tim boyd Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Thanks for that trip back in time! I remember it but didnt enter. One of them was on ebay a couple years ago, might have been one of these. Second place winner pictured above was donated to the International Model Car Museum years ago, so it must have been on of the latter two cars you've shown. Wish we could have let Mark know to see if they could have afforded to buy it for the Museum.... Thanks for the info.....TIM
tim boyd Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 (edited) Here's a couple of pictures I took of the second place winner at the International Model Car Museum circa 2011.... Best regards....TIM Edited August 13, 2014 by tim boyd
unclescott58 Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 What did the fourth place car, talked about above, look like? Scott
Bob Ellis Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 I started building that '68 Coronet for that contest. It turned out awful and I can't remember what I did with it. I guess it went to the trash. I wish I didn't enter the contest because I kept the '68 Impala, Bonneville and Corvette.
unclescott58 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Ah yes, fourth place was built by young Mr. Boyd. I should not be surprised. Another nice one Tim. Scott

GMP440 Posted August 20, 2014 Author Posted August 20, 2014 The big question now is; will we ever see the MPC 68' Coronet R/T released again? It almost happened back in 2007. But, it got cancelled. Maybe Round 2 or even Moebius will see that there there is a huge demand for this kit. It's tooling would allow flexibility to offer a`stock street version, a drag version such a Dick Landy drag car or even a Paul Goldsmith nascar. Any rumblings or hints from the kit manufacturers on a 68' Coronet R/T release?
ianguilly Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I thought round2 was doing some test shots last year?
GMP440 Posted August 27, 2014 Author Posted August 27, 2014 Wanted to say thanks to all who responded to this topic I posted. I never expected this much of a response. This became a very interesting topic.
FordRodnKustom Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Interesting... I found this in some kit paper work that came with a vintage used parts lot I bought some time ago. Perhaps our young engineer was designing his entry for this contest?
