I used to build model cars when I was younger (11-12 years old) and have not touched one since. I really want to start making models again, making them look more realistic, so I will consider this to be my first model car ( I am 22 now). I had no idea how large the model building community was until I began doing research after starting this build! The amount of detail, hours, and fun put in by some of the users on this forum is amazing! Hopefully one day my models will come out that good! Until then it will take a lot of practice!

As I said this is really my first true model car build so the quality is no where near what all of the users post here. I am aware their are many details missing as well as the paint being far from perfect( I am also open to any advice!). This was a fun learning experience while putting it together and I can not wait to start another.

Anyways here it is an out of box kit of Revells 1978 corvette.

Looks great for a starter model! Hope to see more finished models later. You'll get this in due time after being on here for a while, but hurry and get the side mirrors on before Harry P. sees this model. :D

Thank you everyone!!

As for the side mirrors I knew that would be the most obvious to point out ..... Haha I must have thrown them out by accident!

I'm still "new" (again) myself, and I think it looks great. While I want to get all the details and fine stuff perfect, right now I'm shooting for the "looks great setting on the shelf from three feet away" effect.

Here's some advice I've been giving new modelers as well as modelers who've been out of the hobby for some time: Don't rely on box art for accurate reference material. Use the internet - it provides some of the best reference pictures you could ask for.

This pertains more to the OP's build, but it helps make a point. Here's a 1:1 '78 Corvette engine bay. "Detail" starts with small things like noticing the number of shades of black you can spot just in the engine bay as well as other important colors, such as the engine, valve covers etc. Shots like this also help confirm where things go (dipstick location etc) and may inspire you to make or adapt more detailed items (A/C lines, vacuum lines).

Monty : thank you for your advice! I will keep that in mind! my dad actually owns a 78 vette that's why I made this model.

Thank you everyone else! appreciate all the comments from all of you!
I already love this forum. I come on here all the time and just admire the experienced builds as well as read up on loads of advice etc. Luckily I have been practicing painting on old body's I stripped and I can't wait to make another!

Monty's posting reminds me, I'm impressed that you didn't make the mistake of painting the engine Chevy Orange. But, since your dad owns one, you obviously knew the correct color.
