Snake45 Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 When you roll a gullwing and are sitting there on the roof, smelling gasoline, how do you get OUT?

Greg Myers Posted September 18, 2014 Author Posted September 18, 2014 (edited) The blue one at least appears to be a Lola GT, a stepping stone on the way to the GT40. For that I'm prepared to forgive it. While on the subject, note the tail lamps of the majority of GT40s. Note a certain similarity to the tail lamps of a distinctive rear engine, air cooled, GM product? Hmmmmm Edited September 18, 2014 by Greg Myers
Greg Myers Posted September 18, 2014 Author Posted September 18, 2014 many of these gull wingers remind me of the old saying, "Just because you can does not mean you should!" But they DID.
ferrarijoe Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 (edited) When you roll a gullwing and are sitting there on the roof, smelling gasoline, how do you get OUT? the Mercedes SLS has exploding bolts in hinges. So if it senses a roll over the hinges blow apart. Edited September 18, 2014 by ferrarijoe

Snake45 Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Stude and Mercedes ? Mercedebaker? Studebenz?
RancheroSteve Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 If I can figure out the flames, I'd like to tackle this some day:
SSNJim Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 the Mercedes SLS has exploding bolts in hinges. So if it senses a roll over the hinges blow apart. I'm not sure the idea of bolts/hinges exploding inches from one's head is a such a good one.
Snake45 Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 (edited) I'm not sure the idea of bolts/hinges exploding inches from one's head is a such a good one. How about early F-104 ejection seats, then? They fired downward. Edited September 19, 2014 by Snake45
DonW Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 How about early F-104 ejection seats, then? They fired downward. That's two things I've learned today on this forum.I guess the crew had to be really really careful how far off the ground they were before deciding to vacate the aircraft that way! Ejection I've got to escape Ejection Only one move to make Ejection Abandon this crate Ejection (off Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters, Hawkwind)
DonW Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 (edited) Back to the topic - The famous Denis Jenkinson, aka DSJ, Motor Sport magazines European correspondent, was once stopped while in a 300SL Gullwing by a policeman who insisted that DSJ open the drivers door. Despite repeated warnings to stand well back the policeman stood his ground and insisted that the door be opened immediately. It caught him neatly under the chin! Edited September 19, 2014 by DonW
