Porscheman Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 (edited) This van started life as a Johnny Lightning in Coca Cola paint. I stripped off the Coke paint scheme and primed it with Tamiya white primer and painted it Dupli-color Dark Toriador Red and 4 coats of Testors Wet Look Clear. All lensing was covered with BMF and painted with Tamiya clear tints. The wheels were painted in Testors flat steel and all window trim was done using a black Sharpie. I did scratch the windshield trying to remove it and will polish it out when I get more Novis #2. Let me know what you think. Al Edited October 13, 2014 by Porscheman
jeffs396 Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Very nice Al! That could pass for a 1:1 with the right pics!
slusher Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Sharp clean build Al. You always have nice color and paint finish on your builds...
Porscheman Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 (edited) Thank you everyone. I picked this up at a swap meet for $20. and am very happy with the end results. Al Edited September 25, 2014 by Porscheman
Maindrian Pace Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Very nice Al. I've got one of those in the Coke livery, I bought it new at Toys R Us maybe 10 years ago. I like your remake better, I've always wondered what to do with mine. -MJS
hct728(Bob) Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Nice job! Great paint quality (as usual for you) and the Sharpie detailing adds a lot to it. I'd love to find one of these but I doubt I could do it stock, I'd be so tempted to cut off the back and make an ambulance out of it, turning it into another major project I don't have time for.Anyhow, yours looks pretty realistic, congratulations!Bob
Porscheman Posted October 5, 2014 Author Posted October 5, 2014 Thanks guys. When I saw this at the swap meet for $20.00, I didn't even think twice. I pleased the way it came out. Al
kilrathy10 Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Great king van, Man....Very nice work....I like that plain jane look....I'da snatched that one up, too, for $20....
hgbben Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Looks spot on. We have a work van in that same configuration at work. Could take that as real
ShredHippie Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Nice one..looks very realistic..love the color.
crowe-t Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Excellent paint job! BTW, was this generation Ford van ever made into a styrene kit? I don't remember seeing any. I'd like to build one as a shorty wheelbase.

Al When you did the Testors Wet Look clear coat application, did you do it in 2 light mist coats then 2 heavy coats?
Ben Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I have one of these that I disassembled and stripped all the paint to highlight the detail so it could be cast into resin. mustang1989 Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 I like stuff like this. It's different. Nice build dude!
Porscheman Posted January 14, 2015 Author Posted January 14, 2015 Thanks guys. I'm always looking for something that has never been kitted. As far as my clear coat goes, I alway apply wet coats (heavy), but not enough to cause runs. AL
