gwolf Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 When George Lucas made the original Star Wars movie, he hired model makers to build the space ships he wanted in his film the old fashioned way. They in turn, built them by scavenging parts from everything from scrap metal to ship, plane and auto model kit kits. A guy has been building a 1:18 scale, 3 3/4" action figure sized version of Han Solo's ship, the Millennium Falcon and found something interesting... So what does the Millennium Falcon and model cars have in common? An AMT '57 Chevy undercarriage! Check it out: A photo of one of the actual Millennium Falcon models used in the film. His 1:18 version of the Millennium Falcon... Another shot of the inner mandible of the Millennium Falcon on display at a Star Wars exhibit. Pretty cool, huh? Take a look at the work this guy has done: http://toyroom.wordpress.com/2011/11/25/when-11-equals-118/
Custom Hearse Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I thought maybe it was because the Falcon could do the Kessel run in 12 Parsecs... Just like John Force.
Danny Lectro Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Have you seen the teaser JJ Arms released for Star Wars VII, which was a tracking shot of the exterior of the Millennium Falcon, eventually coming to a rest on a model of the Tumbler Batmobile fixed to a recess on the underside?
randx0 Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I knew the millennium falcon was the coolest space ship ever.
Maindrian Pace Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I knew it sounded like it was powered by a 283 with a stuck lifter.
blunc Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 the original Battlestar Galactica had a corvette fan shroud on the nose of the ship. most space ship props/models are constructed using parts of other model kits... tank kits are very popular for that purpose. in fact I think I spy bottom ferrari or porshe engine parts on the nose of the Falcon and some semi truck frame rails on some edges.
David G. Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 That gives one a pretty good idea of the size of the ship model. David G.

Daddyfink Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 In the Star Wars behind the scenes documentary that came in the Blue Ray set, they talk about building the models and how they would keep running back to the hobby shops to get more models for parts. The concept X WIng Fighter was build using mainly Revell 1/16 Scale Dragster parts. Pretty cool stuff.
Jantrix Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 The Falcon was the inspiration for this whole build. In hindsight I should have built a Ford Falcon, but oh well.
