Ace-Garageguy Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 I'm not one of those big nitpickers, but the Monogram 1/24th scale kit just does not look right. Even at a casual glance. Scott Sorry dude...but you've just defined yourself as one of those "big nitpickers". Welcome to the club.

blunc Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 (edited) I like pie. Opps, was that too far off topic? I like Pie Wagon. (hrmmmm, getting closer to the topic) Edited April 5, 2015 by blunc
JohnU Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Speaking of pie, this thread reminds me of a Three Stooges pie fight! Hilarious!

unclescott58 Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Wow! No matter what I say, I get in trouble with this one. I'm attacked for bringing up Nomads? And Monogram's '57 Nomad in particular? I'm accused of being off subject and a nitpicker? In real life, the the Ford Del Rio and the Chevy Nomad were competitors. And there's a big difference in comparing the flaws of Monogram's '57 Nomad to Revell's recent '57 Fords. The Fords may have their flaws. But, they look okay until the flaws are pointed out. The Monogram '57 Nomad just looks wrong sitting there. Mainly it looks way too short. Revell's old '57, newer '56, and AMT's '55 Nomads all looked better proportion wise. Okay now go ahead. Attack me on this one guys. At least I'm trying to keep the subject on models. I don't think I've changed the subject or personally attacked anyone in this thread. If I have, I apologize. My intent is to go with where ever the thread has gone. Throw in a little humour from time to time. (I may not be succeeding. But, I try.) And finally talk about a model kit I'm excited to see coming in the near future. I'm don't mind disagreements. But, this has been feeling a little too personal to me lately. I don't know what I did to get these personal attacks focused on me. Scott

Scott Keep your sense of humor, Scott. I certainly wasn't "attacking" you...only a little gentle "nit-picking". You wanna see "personal attacks"? Read what I've been called on here. If you're gonna call people names... Edited April 5, 2015 by Ace-Garageguy

unclescott58 Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Thanks Bill and Al. Though love is a pretty strong word Al. Scott
Guest Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 In a nutshell, those that find flaws are correct in findin them. All kits have them, some more than others, and some flaws worse than others. It is good to catch them, if they are not caught, there is a good chance they will not be corrected. I apologize for calling some nitpick ears. Just because a flaw does not bother me doesn't mean it isn't there or shouldn't bother someone else.
unclescott58 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 zero... Oh, oh! You went off subject here Bill. That is not a '57 Ford in that picture! Scott
DaveM Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Oh, oh! You went off subject here Bill. That is not a '57 Ford in that picture! Scott And the windshield is .005" too low, and there should be one more bar in the grille, and Micky's ears are underscale... Back on topic, I am collecting a folder full of pictures of Del Rios. I am currently getting going on a '49 Merc woody surf wagon. I have also dragged out an old '41 woody and I am customizing it a bit. The '57 Del Rio might get parked next to them with a couple of surfboards, or some diving equipment. The hardest part about building a wagon is deciding what to fill it up with. Wagons weren't cool back in the day, so if somebody tarted up a wagon, it was because they were using it to haul something and still wanted a nice ride. Surfboards, saddles, sporting equipment, camping gear, tools, auto parts, musical instruments... Nothing is off limits for cargo in a wagon! I had a Volare wagon back in the '80s and it was either full of music equipment, tools for work, or model airplanes. It would also hold bicycles, camping gear, or lots of tires for the racecar. Now, we doll up wagons because we can't afford two doors... They are cool because they are a bit different and rebellious. I would like to build one a bit more vintage and fill it full of stuff.
ChrisBcritter Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Oh, oh! You went off subject here Bill. That is not a '57 Ford in that picture! Scott Fine. Here's a Country Sedan. I wondered which one of you guys would notice first. I like pie too, by the way. Me too.
Sledsel Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Ohhhhh, that video is horrible... horrible I say. I do not think the Del Rio was in competition with the Nomad, it was just a 2 door wagon like the Chevy 2 door wagon. Chevy built full size 2 door wagons til 1960, and Ford made them til 61.
charlie8575 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 The Del Rio was indeed a Nomad competitor. It used the interior trim from the Country Sedan (Fairlane 500) and was trimmed outside appropriately. The Nomad was in the Bel Air series. While the Nomad was more unique, from a cost and market standpoint, they were competition for each other. With that said, I do agree with the calls for a thoroughly modern, correct 1957 Nomad, and as these kits are indeed models of directly-competitive products, is well within the bounds of on-topic. Scott Me I am just happy there will be another wagon besides the same old things...I cant get myself to build another 55,56,57 Chevy Nomad even though there cool I am just tired of them but that is just me. I welcome any different late 50s through 70s wagons to ad to my collection of wagons...be nice to see some late 60s ones come out in plastic kits.
