I popped open my Del Rio last night after finishing up my Moebius '71 F-100 and all I'll say is compared to the Moebius kit in terms of engineering and accuracy, this kit is a masterpiece. I could still be reeling from my first Moebius experience though. Everything in the Del Rio kit is molded and packaged so nice. The windows are all so thin and clear without distortion. The only issue I spotted that needs to addressed is the tail light housings. That's a simple fix. The recess at the rear the front wheel well openings is better. Not perfect. But, not worth messing with either IMO. The line above the rear wheel well openings also looks very close. Once again, not worth messing with.

Personally, the rear bumper guards are not an issue for me. So far, I haven't seen any evidence that confirms that no rear bumper guards are in fact incorrect. I've seen them with and without. I could be wrong. But, I'm pretty sure bumper guards were optional until '73 when they became mandatory on cars.

I do understand the people that do take issue with the missing rear bumper guards. But, would the incorrect bumper guards have been better? Sure, they could have just deleted the tops of the bumper guards and left the rest. But, they didn't. Maybe a resin caster will step in and offer a rear bumper with the guards. Or the people that really want them, can make them. They're very simple pieces to make. Only the foolish will dismiss this kit because of missing rear bumper guards.

Thanks, Roger -

You've covered the one area I've been curious about as I've waited well-nigh these three weeks for a re-stock on Del Rios from my local pusher. Got a call yesterday that mine was finally in.

The irony in your last line is that with ONE EXCEPTION -

exploited, naturally, to prove what exactly? That these discussions chill sales enough we still have to wait three weeks for dealers to get 'em back in?

- just about anybody who's pointed out a problem in this thread has practically fallen all over himself declaring his intentions to buy at least one irrespective.

But even that was not PC enough to forestall all the usual name-calling, doomsday nonsense and fart-talk, evidently.

Exactly. I had planned on buying at least one kit and making any possible corrections. But, if it goes together like I think it will, I'll definitely be buying more. Plus, I have at least a couple of conversions planned. Maybe more. So, time will tell how many I buy. It's actually a little better than I had expected. A big plus since the last kit I built was much worse than I had expected.

Yep the wagon is almost perfect compared to the pickups..

chuck - why are you continuously throwing gas on the fire? let it go, and maybe everyone else will, too. stop poking the hamster in the cage; he's dead.

I was letting things go just fine - mostly out of pity - until the personal garbage started up again.

When that stops, so will I. And the attempt to qualify my content as gas-throwing speaks volumes - where exactly is my last unprovoked assault on somebody's character?

So....

obviously the "negative" comments here have little effect (if any) on the sales of Revell's model cars.

No one here works for Revell or designs thier kits that I'm aware of. (no feelings to hurt)

There's no sign that their employees have fragile egos. (if any read these threads)

No sign they might quit thier jobs or the industry. (because of comments here)

No sign they're afraid to issue new products. (obviously)

So it's probably ok to discuss and/or question thier products without worrying that it will close them down....

The only issue I have with this kit is "I don't have it yet" cheap me is waiting till Hobby Lobby gets them so that I can coupon it..

Plowboy what is the issue with the tailights? Haven't seen mention of that in this thread before. Definitely looking forward to getting one of these kits.

Check post number 133 (page 7) in this very thread. The fins on the Del Rio appear to be a little smaller/sharper than those on the 300 sedan. It's something that only takes a few minutes of filing/sanding to take care of.

I got mine tonight. And I have the same general impressions you have Roger. But, I do to make one correction on what you had to say about real cars. Ford stepped away from offering factory bumper guards on most of their cars from 1958 through the early 70's. And in 1973 bumper guards did not become standard on most cars. 5 mph impact bumpers became a requirement for the front of cars starting in 1973. '74 they were required in the rear. But, bumper guards for the most part were still options even with these new bigger bumpers.

But, as far as the Revell Del Rio model goes, my initial look and thoughts are pretty much the same as yours.

Received & looked at mine yesterday. The body looks great. I also like how the floorpan snaps into the body, creating inner rocker panels.

This one's going to the front of the bench!

RE: Bumper Guards

I own a 1959 Ford retractable hardtop and have a copy of the full Ford parts books (1949-1959).

Under the bumper section it only shows the 57 Wagon/Sedan Delivery/Ranchero with a bumper and bumper guards (with the license plate lamps mounted in the guards). The low line Fords have a smaller bumper with the license plate mounted on the body and lamp as part of the plate holder. The Fairlane 500 bumpers are much bigger and have the license in a bumper recess with lamps mounted in the side of the bumper recess.

I suppose it could have been possible to get a different bumper on the Wagons with some other configuration of license/lamps and not guards via the dealer.

They got rid of this foolishness in 1959 and had one bumper/license/lamps for all cars (except TBird, of course).

Great review. Like the fact that grill is molded open. Like the fact that they've made the fan belt more to scale.

Thanks man. Yeah, grills you don't have to hog out are awesome. Glad they are doing those more often, or I'm just seeing it more often.

Too late to mention the incorrect steering wheel?

Perhaps the correct "upscale" hub and horn ring was also deleted?

Wouldn't Ford's "Nomad" also have deluxe wheelcovers?

Yes it's a *very* nice kit...but Revell did take some short cuts for their "stock" kit.

Of course there's always the AMT kit for some of these "missing" parts.

Yawn here we go again.

So question for those who have gotten the kit or seen the video review what do you like about kit that you feel revell did right. As I said I like the open grill,

Yawn?.. still not ok to discuss the kit frankly?

Other than the 'guards n the steering wheel...I think it's a great kit...niether of my concerns are or should be a deal breaker.

People ARE voting with their wallets Bob...it appears to be a hit!

Specifically....

that's the 4th box to contain that nice grille.

2nd to contain the supercharger parts

4th to contain the frame and running gear. (though there are some differences with the stock car kit)

But 1st to have the wagon body, glass and interior all of which are very nicely done....

Someone at Revell obviously reads the forums and someone at Revell obviously listens. I snagged the dash planning on cutting the speaker grille out and recessing it flush like it should be. Surprise! It's been corrected already! :D It's nice and flush like it should be. Maybe the nit pickers do help to bring about better kits. ;)
