chunkypeanutbutter Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Most expensive one I ever bought was the AMT/Ertl C600 Stake Truck. Think it was like $35 or $40... Pretty cheap considering what you guys get.... What's the most expensive kit you've ever bought at full price?
ERIK88 Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Most expensive kit I've bought would have to be the Amt Impala supersport set for $30. I usually don't spend more than $14 for a single kit.
gtx6970 Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 once paid $500 cash for a factory sealed Golor Me Gone 1968 Charger funnycar kit. Like an idiot sold it a few years later ,,,and yes I got my money back out of it
wayne swayze Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 It would probably be the '48 Chev sedan delivery . Not blaming Galaxie, I'm sure the LHS just jacked the price a lot. And like a typical dumb Canuk, I actually paid their asking price, hoping for more than what was in the box...like a free magazine or something.
Greg Myers Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Just about anything, nowa days. Seriously and and these naw. Only $20 each at Kmart back in about 1978, really.
sjordan2 Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) I'd like to see what kind of investment the Pocher builders have in their kits (and aftermarket parts). Edited December 16, 2014 by sjordan2
cobraman Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 When it first came out I bought the big Testa Rossa metal kit. I think it was Testors that it was sold under. It was 299.00 if I remember right.
Casey Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 The first rule about buying models is: You do not talk about how much you spent. The second rule about buying models is: YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU SPENT.
afx Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 A friend of mine just bought the Model Factory Hiro 1/12 scale '64 Ferrari 250 GTO. List price $750!! He showed me the kit. It has a mind boggling number of parts and the level of detail is amazing but WOW is it expensive. For instance the wire wheels are built up using individual spokes(!)
Ben Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 LOL.......You don't even want to know! It's not so much how much I spent on a kit but the total invested in a particular kit after adding all the aftermarket goodies to it! I have one truck kit with over a thousand just in parts. I bought a scratch built bulldozer for 300.00 and just had the correct tracks 3D printed for it and they are going to cost me 225.00, just for the tracks!
Deathgoblin Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 from my old collection, I would have said the 1/48 C-130 Hercules. That kit was a monster. So were the 1/8 Corvette and Camaro I used to have. Currently, I would have to say it was one of the anime garage kits. I've paid upwards of $50 each for some of those. No wonder that site says I'm a VIP.
jrherald420 Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 My top 2 are the Gunze Sangyo Daytona Cobra factory sealed @ 120.00 and the Gunze Sangyo V12 Ferrari 250 GTO factory sealed @ 110.00 WORTH EVERY DOLLAR!!!!!!! 20141216_141341 by jrherald420, on Flickr
vintagedragcrazy Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 dodge revellion $125 but it is a real nice one. and the johan hornet funnycar and milners dragster were up there too. vince
sjordan2 Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) This is a really interesting question regarding car modeling culture and what type of modeler is willing to pay how much for what kind of kit. As we know, many on this forum have opinions on what's worth the investment and what isn't, averaging up to about $40-$50 for a typical 1/25 kit. But we have many others, such as those identified above, who are willing to pay hundreds for a rare and highly detailed kit of a subject that interests them. Then there are the large-scale Pocher builders who pay around $1,200 for a kit, plus that much or more for aftermarket parts. The most I've paid for a kit was about $125 for a 1/12 Ferrari, and it truly wasn't worth it. Typically, in my large-scale buys of 1/16 and 1/12, I've spent about $50 - $75 for these kits. Good to know what the going prices may be, which can be helpful to our members. Edited December 16, 2014 by sjordan2
Cato Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 My current Pocher Rolls Sedanca (in tools, materials and the ebay kit), at this point in construction, cost more than my 1:1 Shelby aluminum cylinder heads (the parts only-my labor) for the Cobra. And I've still got roughly $400 more to go in aftermarket bronze-cast body detail parts. I'm not sorry.
hvymtl Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 All three aoshima road warrior interceptors off ebay and then the resin kits of the Interceptor also along with the tamiya Porsche 935 and 934 1/12 kits Michael
62rebel Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 first one i bought my own self... 1956 F-100 by Revell. 1978 or so. cost around 3 dollars..... the first purchase in a thirty-six and running year obsession with polystyrene representations of automobiles that has probably cost, in any given year, anywhere from a hundred bucks or so to several hundred..... most expensive one that comes to mind was the pair of Matadors i bought a few years back, i think they both ran about 60 bucks.
Daddyfink Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Let's make this interesting, I have a sealed 1967 MPC Firebird in my stash. Why don't you guys price it! It is not for sale, but I am curious how much someone would pay. This only for fun!
Lunajammer Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 This. Not a car, short run, 1/72 long out of production. Had resin cast landing gear with air bubbles so bad that half the struts aren't even there. Still glad I have it though, just working & hoping to find gear for it.
High octane Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Many years ago I bought a mint '63 Dodge Polara Hardtop for $150, and maybe someday (year) I'll build it.
Ramfins59 Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 The most I've ever paid for a plastic kit was around $25 for the Galaxie '48 Chevy. The most I've paid for a resin kit was around $125 for Modelhaus' '58 Ford convertible kit with all accessories. The most I've ever paid for a promo was $73 on EBAY for a '58 Dodge.
every second counts Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 The most i have paid was 225.00 for a sealed BJ and the bear truck kit, i was going to open it after i read some stuff on here about old kits, but i don't think i will.
jbwelda Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 have to be a half built, but clean and unpainted, Uncertain T that I paid about 150 for. thought that was pretty excessive but then got an offer of 200 for it. didn't sell it and hope to build it this winter. jb
