Roadrunner Posted March 31, 2015 Author Posted March 31, 2015 (edited) I've tried something a little different here, (for me that is). Side markers have had the small rectangular portion painted a dark red, with clear red applied to the rest. This seem to more accurately mimic the real McCoy. Edited March 31, 2015 by Roadrunner
mustang1989 Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 That looks grea!! You're making me want to do a re-do! lol 1
Roadrunner Posted April 1, 2015 Author Posted April 1, 2015 That looks grea!! You're making me want to do a re-do! lol Exactly what I'm trying to avoid! Well, as is the case with much of my supplies, the Future has gone missing, but I did find my Tamiya clear, so after a quick swipe with that (lens backsides), headlight lenses are now finished (I think).
Roadrunner Posted April 1, 2015 Author Posted April 1, 2015 Perhaps a bit premature (I still have two or three small areas that need polishing, as it turns out), I could stand it no longer, and started adding the T/A tripes. The very front of left fender still needs to be polished, so I cannot apply fender decal at this time, pending that polishing.
Roadrunner Posted April 1, 2015 Author Posted April 1, 2015 Thanks, fellas. I can't help but feel that I'm learning a lot here, all of which will be useful for my next projects.
Roadrunner Posted April 1, 2015 Author Posted April 1, 2015 Dash gets a dash (see what I did there?) of black paint. This actually looks pretty good, though I'm stripping the hood and spoiler again, as the black came out looking really bad on those.
mustang1989 Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 I like that correct matte look of the stripes Kevin.
Roadrunner Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 I like that correct matte look of the stripes Kevin. Yea, it seems to have paid off, doing them after the clear coats. I'm very pleased. I'm going to try and shoot the interior tomorrow.
Roadrunner Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 The passenger side front stripe is too far forward in the photo above. Fortunately, I caught it in time and was able to reposition it further aft. If I hadn't spotted it in the photo, it'd be too late now to fix it, so I really lucked out there.
tbill Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Kevin, looking great so far, paint work is awesome! question though, should the front side marker light/lens be red or amber? in the pic it looks red, I am thinking it should be yellow/amber.......but I could be wrong.
Roadrunner Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 Kevin the Challenger is looking great. Thanks. I'm having a blast with it, and believe my next one will be easier after this one. Kevin, looking great so far, paint work is awesome! question though, should the front side marker light/lens be red or amber? in the pic it looks red, I am thinking it should be yellow/amber.......but I could be wrong. Amber is correct, but for some reason, that shot does make it look red, when in fact it's not.
Stray Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 holy dayum this is looking sweet as. You're gonna give us all diabetes dude. 1
Roadrunner Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 The last (I think) of the polishing is finished, now that the driver side fender is finished.
Roadrunner Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 With the driver side fender now being polished (I had a small boo boo that needed repainting), the remainder of the T/A striping has been applied;... time to move on to other "stuff".
Roadrunner Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 Some of the aforementioned "stuff", is the painting of the front grille area. This is Gunze acrylic black. A tiny bit of over-spray made its way onto the fenders, but a quick swipe with a Q-tip moistened with denatured alcohol, easily removed it, one of the wonderful things about acrylics.
atomicholiday Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Looking excellent. It's hard to believe this is your first shot at polishing. I've done it a half dozen times and that looks better than any of my attempts. 1
Roadrunner Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 I think I just got lucky, Jeremy. I wish the blue had been applied a bit more evenly, but overall, I'm pretty pleased with the results so far.
Roadrunner Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 Hard to see, given the poor lighting, but I've painted the radiator grill now, as well as the lower light housings (these will be Alclad aluminum, with amber lenses.
mustang1989 Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 (edited) So far you're lookin' good Kevin!! I'm a big acrylic paint fan as well and enjoy the niceties they have to offer. Edited April 3, 2015 by mustang1989
Roadrunner Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 Trying something that I normally wouldn't do to a car model; I've added a wash around door latches and corner markers. Not real sure if I'm happy with it or not.
