Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe Revamp

28 September 2014 - 11:12 PM

I always loved the Daytona Coupes, and wished there was a full detail (with drivetrain) scale kit, which was straight forward to build, but also relatively inexpensive!?

There are some vendors bits that can be had, but still an all inclusive all plastic/resin kit would be ideal

Being that each of the Coupes were unique and individual, it'd also be great to have a selection so to build any of each?

I decided to start with using the Gunze kit as donor, and other kit parts for donor, then scratch build anything needed in between to complete, with the idea toward being able to easily cast also

I recast the basic body to work on variations, and the chassis will otherwise be the same one used between them, except perhaps a 390 version?  and of course a factory five hotrod version would be nice too!   ;)

I was going to wait and start this post later, as I finish other projects, but in the meantime this can begin and further reference material added to it

There are actually no two Daytona Coupes which are exactly alike, each were different, and not just in subtle differences, so we will look at making 5-6 different versions of each CSX model

Despite starting with a donor scale kit, the degree of modifications & scratch building needed will not be small, starting with the chassis

Some kit components are reused, but modified & needing extensive cleaning to look right, some parts made from scratch

Many donor kit parts are poor or just plain unusable, so substitute as we go!

LED bulbs, best place to buy from?

21 August 2014 - 11:20 PM

Where are you guys finding the best (priced) place to buy mini LED bulbs from?

I looked on ebay, but only a few came up (from China of course)

Specifically I'm looking plain clear mini bulbs with leads attached, and online is probably best price/shipping option

Thanks  :)

1966 Ford Galaxie 7L kit?

17 August 2014 - 08:25 PM

Looking around for a kit of this specific model, 1/24-25 scale

If not in this specific version, I could convert the 66 AMT galaxie kit maybe?  which kit would be the best 7L drivetrain from used?

LMK, Thanks!

AMC AMX/3 scratch build kit project

01 April 2014 - 09:28 PM

I've been very busy with life "stuff", and sorting out casting for other projects to satisfaction, but in the meantime had started this project (before the new year) on a very rare and interesting car, the AMC AMX/3.

Styled by Richard Teague, and chassis development by Giotto Bizzarrini, the AMX/3 was developed into a fully operational vehicle, with 5-6 cars built & remain intact today.  The car was mid-engined design, with fully independent suspensions front + rear, a 390 V8 and 4 speed transaxle bespoke.

Reference photos, in particular of the under chassis, are not easly found, so I built some areas with less detail than others, rather than to try and "fill in" detail incorrectly, instead building only as what can be clearly seen.

Again, is being built in a manner condusive to casting & assembly ease, but also to make as accurately as I can do so.

Enjoy!  :)

AMC AMX/3 front suspension & under chassis pics needed

16 March 2014 - 12:44 AM

Hey guys

I'm searching out better photos specifically of the AMX/3 front suspension and forward under chassis/floorpan areas

I've already a lot of the exterior & interior, and the rear half of the chassis/drivetrain (above & below)

So far, online searching, hasn't revealed any really good pics, besides this cutaway

Please share if you have, or come across some
