  1. If you go back to page 571 of this topic I posted a couple of pics. One is a closer look at the side panel of the box. As far as the production run, I have no idea what that was. Although, the red model seems to be the more plentiful of the red and silver models I've seen. All I can tell you about my cars is I believe all of them have 1970 Michigan plates #8199. I've never looked into the history of the contest either. The '70 GTO and "The Judge" is my favorite car and I have 40, 50, more(?) of the '70 alone in different scales(1/64, 1/25, & 1/18) in plastic and die-cast. So, I'm sorry I can't really answer your question(s). I should also note that when the contest was held, late '69(new model year), I wasn't born yet.
  2. "Family" picture of the '70 GTO's. The newest addition in the middle.
  3. Thanks Carl. Have to get it in the display case with its new brothers. I'll also have to snap 'n post a pic of the "family."
  4. Thanks Mark. That's the last '70 GTO I'm going for. It's the best one of the lot and it came with the box which was the bonus for me. Now I can watch for some other Pontiac's and hopefully add to the family.
  5. Well, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I got the latest promo in the mail today. Another '70 GTO. However, this one is the best one of the 5 I now have. Not a scratch on it and the chrome is perfect. I know in the picture the wheels look like the chrome is faded, but it's just a reflection from the red body. It also came with the original box that shows a little wear, but it's very sturdy for its age.
  6. In my first car with three of my buddies. I was challenged to see how fast my '72 LeMans could go. Well...I buried the speedo past its mechanical ability. It just kept bouncing at 120mph. As fun as that was...it was also just as, or more, as dumb. Thinking back as to how worn out that car was and not exactly a gem mechanically. Guess we were all lucky nothing catastrophic happened.
  7. I didn't want to highjack your post with a picture of mine. What I did to mine was sand the back side of the grilles to remove them, but saved the Pontiac emblem to reuse. I then used black window screen to simulate the larger openings.
  8. The kit itself may be a disappointment, but your paint skills sure aren't. A fantastic mirror finish on the body. As everybody knows...if you're gonna paint a car black the bodywork had better be laser straight. You can't hide anything.
  9. Sean- I actually don't have a model or parts for a '68 GTO. It's one of 3 years('68, '73, & '74) that is missing from my "1 of each year" collection...aside from the '04-'06 GTO's. Sorry I can't help you out. You can try and find the old Monogram kit, but unfortunately there are many incorrect parts to it. You can also try Modelhaus or other resin casters. I haven't gotten into casting...yet.
  10. Well Mark, not to make you even more jealous, I just scored another '70 GTO promo today. It's near mint to mint condition(seller claims a 10 out of 10) AND it comes with the original box. From the pictures it is scratch free and very shiny with very good intact shiny chrome. I went over my(sort of) $50 limit, but not by much and worth it to me. So, that makes 5 of the '70 GTO's. I'll post a pic when it gets here.
  11. I don't hide this stuff from my wife either. She was sitting not even 10ft away from me when I opened the FB package the other day. She'll even ask if I'm expecting any packages in the mail for the week so she'll keep an eye out for them or listen for a knock at the door. But like I said before I don't/won't pay the overly inflated prices for most of the promos out there. I actually haven't paid more than $50(less the shipping) for any of the promos I have. Right timing and lucky I guess.
  12. Thanks Mark. I'm sure you know the prices most of them sell for. Well, I didn't, or I should say don't/won't, pay those prices. The Caddy may be redone at some point but the FB will get cleaned up and put in a display case with the rest of my promos. I have another FB that I already started to work on a while back.
  13. Got these promos off of Ebay from 2 separate auctions. First is a '75 Cadillac Eldorado and second is a '73 Pontiac Formula Firebird 400.
  14. I've seen the same red '71 or '72 El Camino for a couple of weeks parked at a garage(belongs to a mechanic perhaps). Well, today on the way to work it had a For Sale sign on the passenger window. Me personally...not at all interested. Also saw a '54 Chevy done up as a gasser.
  15. I really need to wash and wax the truck, but I got the R/T grille emblem and couldn't resist putting it on and snapping a pic.
  16. '70 1/2-'73...the best looking T/A's. I did an updated Monogram T/A myself to a '73 to resemble the one from the movie "McQ". I like what you've done. Only improvement I would say is the grille. It was one of the exterior updates on a '73 to a larger mesh opening. The interior is a little more difficult to do.
  17. Not getting seriously hurt or worse...killed on the freeway on my way to work. The County had the brilliant idea to do some roadwork today that required them to shut down a lane of traffic with very little warning signs on a blind curve. Well, traffic pretty much came to a crawl and here comes a tractor/trailer in my rearview mirror....FAST! I managed to pull over to the side of the road as the truck came to a quick stop right next to me. That pretty much left me shaking for a few minutes. I'm sure the truck driver felt the same.
  18. Had a HO set when I was a kid. Got back into the hobby when I was around 20 and bought a N scale set and it grew from there. Now that my wife and I have bought a house I can build a layout as well as my model building room. I also have all of my dads C&NW HO stuff. Might keep an engine or two as well as the passenger set and sell the rest since I'm into a smaller scale and RR.
  19. Monogram '71 HEMI 'Cuda with the first run that says it's a '70 HEMI 'Cuda on the box(In Violet car on the cover).
  20. @Casey- After going back and forth with you yesterday afternoon and now that I saw your post, actually I think I do have the '34 Ford. The kit with the yellow car on the box cover...not the black one. They're "big n littles" if I'm not mistaken. Wasn't going to use them on the kit anyway...too modern(especially the rims). Have a set of tires/wheels set aside already. Also, Thanks David. Although the GMP/Acme are 1/18 scale, they produce beautiful die-casts and accessories. I have about 15 die-casts from them.
  21. Does anyone make a decent 1/16 scale street tire? I want to swap out the cruddy tires on the General Lee. So, the tires would have to fit the Turbine's from the kit as well. I'm still up in the air on what direction I'm going with this kit...General Lee or the Charger from "Death proof." Either way, I want new tires.
  22. A Ferrari F430 Spider...at a Burger King. And then he passed me a few minutes later.
  23. First off, my phone of over 3 years(HTC EVO 4G LTE) got the ole death screen. So, it was on the hunt for a replacement. Ended up getting the new HTC One M9. Now it's like I have to learn how to use a phone all over again. Second, I got a Bistro set, umbrella, and umbrella base for the upper deck where my wife and I live. I added the seat pads and lights from a previous set.
